Body Measurement Features

User-Definable Heart Rate Zone Limits
There are three ways you can set zone limits: as default heart zones that are automatically calculated based on your max HR, as free heart rate zones for which you can set the limits yourself, or as heart rate zones based on thresholds which you can define yourself
HRmax (User Set)
Set your own maximum heart rate
HRmax (Age Based)
The highest number of heart beats per minute (bpm) during maximum physical exertion. For a rough estimate of your maximum heart rate, subtract your age from 220. HRmax is a useful tool for determining the intensity of training as intensity zones can be defined using HRmax. Some Polar products define maximum heart rate during the Polar Fitness Test, see also HRmax (Polar Fitness Test -based)
Polar Fitness Test
Measures your aerobic fitness at rest in just five minutes. The result, Polar OwnIndex, evaluates your maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). With the Polar Fitness Test you can measure your aerobic fitness by yourself, automatically and without any exertion. All you need is your training computer. The Polar Fitness Test is as accurate in predicting the VO2max as any sub maximal fitness test. The test is based on heart rate, heart rate variability at rest, and personal information
Polar OwnCal - Smart Calories
Calculates the number of calories you have burned. Calculation is based on your individual data: your weight, height, age, gender, and the intensity of physical activity. Smart Calories are available in heart rate monitors and activity trackers
HR-Based Target Zones with Visual and Audible Alarm
You can define your target zones for a training session based on heart rate to help define the right intensity. When you are out of the preset zones, the training computer will give a visual and audible alarm
Automatic Age-Based Target Zone - bpm / %
To help you train safely and effectively, the training computer determines your heart rate target zone limits automatically according to your age-based maximum heart rate (220 minus age). The limits are determined either in beats per minute (bpm), as a percentage (%) of your maximum heart rate, or as a heart rate reserve (% HRR). See also Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and Manual target zone
Average, Minimum and Maximum Heart Rate of Training
Data to help you analyze your training and improve performance
Heart Rate - bpm / %
Heart rate is the measurement of the work your heart does. Heart rate can be expressed as the number of beats per minute or as percentage of your maximum heart rate. Heart rate can also be expressed as a percentage of your heart rate reserve, meaning the difference between your resting heart rate and maximum heart rate (HRR = HRmax - HRrest). In Polar software or during strength training, heart rate can be displayed as a graphical trend
Heart Rate Zones
Heart rate zones provide an easy way to select and monitor the intensity of your training and to follow heart rate based training programs. The default heart rate zones are divided into five zones based on the percentage of your maximum heart rate: very light (50-60 % HRmax), light (60-70 % HRmax), moderate (70-80 % HRmax), hard (80-90 % HRmax), and maximum (90-100 % HRmax). You can also define the zones as you want
Training Benefit
Motivating feedback that's delivered straight to you after exercise is something that can help all of us. So if you want to know the effect of different training sessions, this feature will tell you exactly what you need to know. You get a quick overview after each session, and for more detailed feedback, you can either check your training file or get further in-depth analysis at Polar web services

    Polar M400 reviews

M400 Sports Watch (Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am Very Happy I am very happy with this watch. One month ago, I bought the white w/ the HR monitor and the pair works fine so far. The watch itself looks smaller (and better) on my wrist than on a picture and I do not have a big wrist. The sync and web software works fine too. A very pleasant surpise is the high contrast of the display at day light. You can see the numbers very very clearly. I could write way more good things about ths watch. For its cost, it is a bargain. The only drwaback I would like to mention is that sometimes it looses the sync with my iphone 5 (after i installed the latest iOS) but this can get back when I do a manual sync. i can see my incoming calls from my watch now, just like a smart watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I have two friends that also have Polar watches and love it. While one of the my friends was visiting he showed me how to use the watch and features on line and his app. I bought one immediately and never looked back. I sold my old GPS running watch and Fitbit. I no longer needed them since everything I needed was in the Polar watch. I never take it off, unless to charge it. I track how much I move during the day and sleep. I track workouts and recovery. I really needed while I was training for my marathon. I just bought the heart rate monitor to go with the watch. Easy to use and set up. App/website are easy to use and understand. Recommend it to anyone wanting to have a more in depth look at their workouts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love everything, just wish it worked with iPad I got this watch as a gift for my husband who is a runner. He uses the watch to map his runs and time himself. The battery lasts forever when not using the GPS. He has really enjoyed using it. Once you sync the watch to the computer you can get a video of your routes which also provides you with pictures that show pictures of certain points of your route. I believe the watch was pretty accurate with GPS although a few of the pictures that were along the route were from a few streets over. The one thing I was disappointed with was that we don't have smart phones, and just us an iPad air. The Polar Flow app is not compatible with the iPad Air. Hope this changes in the near future! Another thing to be aware of is the size of this watch. The watch is quite big, but it's still stylish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent sport watch for running I upgraded my Polar old sport watch to this watch for my jogging purposes and had been tested it for a few weeks now. So far it's up to par with the descriptions: accurate GPS sensor that tracks my route and speed, can endure rain/wet weather/showering, short charging time, easy to sync up with Polar service apps, and an easy to read and operate GUI. The only negative thing I would want to mention is that the face/size is a tad big for my medium-sized wrist, so this might not be attractive to people who have small wrist.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so Good from longtime Polar User Recently picked up the M400 to replace my aging S710 which was for the time a higher end device. Compared to it the M400 is not as bulky or robust but it is nonetheless well constructed. Gone is the Red Start/Stop button on the watch face. I've been using it with the H7 strap for a little over 1Wk mainly for running and cross training on an elliptical. I've been happy thus far. Have not experienced gaps in HR data. It also has activity monitor which tries to keep you on track to achieving daily performance goals. A couple of drawbacks. First, the Bluetooth Sync is clunky, initial pairing took several attempts (for each device, iPad, iPhone). USB transfers/syncs have been reliable and fast. Syncing of the PolarFlow software to the cloud is also slow. The second concern, though it may be possible and I have not come across how to do it is LOCAL STORAGE of data with an OPT OUT for putting such personal data on their cloud in the first place. Third, the chest strap needed to be purchased separately (WHAT??, No HR data w/o stap). This is my biggest gripe. Fourth, the watch is quite thick such that I cannot sometimes button my long sleeve shirts. Overall, I consider the M400 a good buy and would recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bumpy start, but seems okay now I bought this watch so I could untether from my cell phone while running but still record data about my runs. No more lugging the phone around in a waist pack or arm band! On my first run with the new watch, things went well for the first 5.7 miles. Then the dreaded error message Something went wrong. Press OK to reset M400. Yep, lost the data for my entire workout. I've gone on about ten runs since then, including the very same route and had no more problems. Pros: Love the look, fit and weight - even on my very small wrists Running without carting around a cell phone? Awesome! Can wear it as my everyday watch Can export the GPS data to tcx and then import into my Runtastic account Seems more accurate than my phone GPS Cons: Totally ate the data from my first run. Not cool, Polar. Automatic lap beep is too quiet. I don't listen to music while running and I still can't hear it! Syncing is clunky and you actually have to plug in with USB to upload the GPS data. I don't understand how to set my daily activity goals. I want to set it to 10,000 steps but it uses something....else? Can't figure it out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best GPS Running Watch! I use this to run each and every day in the afternoon. It connects in less than 10 seconds where I live (Suburb/School) and gives accurate readings. I love the customization of the watch and how you can change the screen online to your fit. Fits very well (I don't notice it on) All around great watch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smart buy I have no issues with this watch. It performs as described and has proven to be very accurate. I especially enjoy the fact that I don't have to run with a smart phone attached to my upper arm. This watch captures it all and then bluetooth connects with my phone when I am done. Does exactly what I need it to do.
