Adox CMS 20 II overview

  • 1Description

The Adox CMS 20 II Professional Black and White Negative Film is an extremely high resolution, fine-grained film featuring a slow nominal sensitivity of ISO 20/14° when developed with the recommended Adotech II or Adotech III developers. Slower speeds can be used to reduce overall contrast or when utilizing other developers. A unique monodisperse emulsion layer provides high sharpness and resolution with virtually no perceivable grain, and an anti-halation layer has also been incorporated between the emulsion and film base to maintain consistent sharpness void of halation effects. The film's base is completely transparent, making it well-suited for scanning and copy work, as well as reversal processing techniques (using Adotech II/III as a first developer) for projection. Its orthopanchromatic sensitivity is responsive to all light and requires no filtration for pictorial applications.

This item is two 36-exposure rolls of 35mm film. The cartridges are not DX-coded and the film speed must be set manually.

Adox CMS 20 II reviews

CMS 20 II Professional Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures, 2 Pack) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection in daylight I've recently used this film for mid day shots around Nashville, and I'm about to get two more rolls to create ultra long exposures coupled wit neutral density filters to create a vanilla sky-esque setting. The film has extremely almost impossibly small grain structure allowing for some massive prints without any real loss of detail. The only con is for best results you NEED to use the ADOX developer kit. Other than that the film is great, if youre willing to wait it can also get some interesting night shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Film for the 21st Century As a long-time, satisfied user of Kodak Tri-X (especially when shot at ISO 200 and developed normally,) I recently decided to branch out and try other, less familiar films. Adox CMS 20 II is a nice find: great resolution and extremely fine grain coupled with good dynamic range. It brings back memories of Kodak Panatomic X. While it is a slow-speed film, the trade-off is worthwhile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great slow film. It's amazing to find a 35mm film with so fine grain! I miss slow films here in Chile... There is nowhere to buy this kind of professional films.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautifully made but a hard film This film is hard to use. Contrast is really too much for highlights. But the film is beautifully produced. Giving it another chance, trying to find the right light situations.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Amazing Example in Annoying Experience Yes, it offers the highest resolving power, and amazing taste including high contrast. Leica's 50'APO and Hasselblad's X5 allow you to see how much a film can solve. But... since Adox's production facilities might not be designed well, the inner mechanism of my camera was broken by this film. So I cannot give a recommendation for this film unless it works perfectly with your equipment.
