    Profoto Deep Silver Medium Reviews

It does cost more, but quality makes it worth it

This product is solid! I have a less expensive 65 version of another brand and the center rod is not as sturdy as the Profoto ones. The 41 is perfect for headshots with the diffusion. If the other brand breaks easier, I'm switching to all Profoto Umbrellas!

    Best Umbrella to Get.

Profoto makes some of the best umbrellas and this doesn't disappoint. Excellent build quality and produces a beautiful light. I use this with a Profoto B1 and B2 and like how I can adjust the spread of light by sliding the B1/B2 head along the shaft. I use this with and without the optional diffuser. Great for location shooting as long as it's not too windy outside.

You need a lot of light to overcome the sun when you are outdoors. This will give your strobe that bit extra with a great quality of light.

    Quality light modifier

Because I do a broad range of on site photography I recently purchased a set of umbrellas in various sizes made by Profoto. Though I had not used any of their products the reviews looked good but I was skeptical about the higher cost. I sometimes shoot in small locations with wood stained walls which are not desirable to bounce flash from so I started with the 33 inch white. These umbrellas were so much better made than anything that I had previously used that I decided to try replacing an old set of soft boxes with another set of Profoto's larger silver deep dish with diffusers. I now have two small white 33 deep dish, one medium silver 41 deep dish w/diffuser panel and one large silver 51 w/diffuser panel to cover various size sets and they are much more durable, better constructed and offer a nice reflection of light. The deep dish design allows for better control of light and feathering and add the diffuser to silver umbrella for an alternative to soft boxes with much quicker and easier set up/tear down and compact portability. I have used all of these umbrellas in my studio with good results and plan to carry them for on location photography. Both the umbrellas and the diffuser panels come in their own pre-labeled, individual durable protective cases and can be easily packed into your light stand case. Pricey but worth the $$.

Best umbrella to get. I use this on Profoto B1 and B2 heads. Beautiful light, well made, and I like the adjustable quality of light produced by sliding the B1/B2 on the umbrella shaft.

    question

Has anybody used the medium silver umbrella combined with the less powerful B2 head & What about after losing 1.5 stops with the diffuser added ? Most videos I've observed seem to be using the small size with the B2, apart from 1 Jared Platt video which had the medium silver being used. That photograph was however taken with an additional B2 head and a B1 head as well. Its hence hard to completely judge just the output of the medium umbrella alone.

I agree with William N. On the fantastic light. For portraits, I don't diffuse it either as it makes for nicer catch lights, imo.

If you are regering to the outside, the black part it is some kind of nylon I guess.

    question

Hi, any idea where I can buy a top cap for the umbrella? It unscrews and falls off. It's the very end, metal piece at the tip of the umbrella. Certified service centers don't sell them. I would hate to have to buy a new umbrella for this particular piece that I'm sure they have extras for. =) Thanks!
    Asked by: Albert
Hi Albert, You could probably substitute a flat washer and an M6 metric nut. It wouldn't be as pretty, but it would do the job. You could find these at your local hardware store or the hardware department at Home Depot. Good Luck!
