FLM CB-58 FT with SRB-60 Reviews

Outstanding quality

I've owned a bunch of big ball heads and this is the best so far. More adjustments than I need, but that's no big deal. I need it to pan smoothly, have a good bar friction adjustment, and lock down solidly with minimum force. I does all of these things extremely well, and as an added bonus, there is virtually no shift when the ball is clamped - compose the way you want, lock it, and you're good to go with no having to compensate for a shift when you let go of the camera. I really wish I'd gone this route 3 heads ago.

This thing is a tank with great features and clamping power. Can hold bigger rigs with ease. Quality machining and design.

Versatile Head

My first use of the FLM Head after receiving it happened to be for a little astrophotography.  The Heads ability to lock into one vertical tract with no side-to-side play was useful when doing a vertical panorama of the milky way.  Never seen or heard of any other ball head that will do this.  Unique that way, and very solid at any angle.  Only down side is the need for quite a bit of turning to lock down the ball.

No regrets, whatsoever !

When I bought a professional Nikon full frame camera I was happy. When I bought the beefy Gitzo 5542LS tripod ( I also have its smaller brother 3542LS) I was pleased. When I bought the FLM CB 58mm FTR ball with QR 70 clamp, I felt contented. Words cannot describe how good the FLM ballhead is.Yes, I chose it over the popular BH 55 for all the functions it has but lacking in the BH 55. I also like the fact that is has a larger diameter ball, it is taller in overall dimensions and weighs less than the BH 55, very significant for air travel. What finally sealed it for me was the comparison of various ballheads on DP review titled "the battle of Titans".It was the sturdiest of all the ten ballheads tested. Have I noticed any difference in sharpness of my shots? You bet I have. Do I recommend this ballhead? Yes, I will even in my sleep. Is the cost worth it, yes much more, if you value photography either as a hobby or profession.Go get it, you will be glad you did.

I purchased the ballhead to go with a FLM CP-30 S4S. I can't say enough great things about this ballhead. All the controls operate very smoothly. Setting the tension control is fast and easy. There is zero creep or movement when locking it down. Extremely well made. Recommend it highly.

I purchased this ball head to replace an ageing BH-1. This head well designed and built and holds my 600 f4 with ease. Zero creep and a joy to use!

I had been looking for a quality ball head to replace my Manfrotto head. After reading the reviews and watching you tube videos I settled on the FLM. It is an excellent head and while expensive, it is very easy to use and will handle any camera and lens

Can I install a Really Right Stuff lever clamp on this ball head?
Asked by: Diego
The Really Right Stuff B2-LR-II Lever-Release Clamp (60mm) or one of the other size RRS clamps could go on the FLM CB-58FTR Professional FT Series Ball Head with SRB-60 QR Clamp. If you do not own the head, you could buy the FLM CB-58FTR Ball Head with the QLB-80 Lever Quick Release Clamp. If you want to use the RRS clamp, you could buy the FLM CB-58FTR Professional Series Ball Head without a clamp. Here are the links: https://bhpho.to/3tTd0fh https://bhpho.to/3XrfKhh

question

Which plates would work for a Pentax 645z? For a Canon 5D M3? I've been using Manfrotto's Quick release system, and it seems the plates fit any camera with standard threads, so the Arca-type plates are new to me. I'm not sure why you would need a plate that is specific to a particular camera.
Asked by: Brian
This ball head uses any Arca Swiss type plate. The Arca Swiss type plate is produced by many manufacturers and in many variations. Some Arca Swiss type plates are made to fit a particular camera. These special plates prevent twisting and serve other purposes. For the Pentax 645Z you can use any flat plate such as the Oben QR-30. See the link here.

question

Anyone have a good storage bag recommendation for this? Most I can find have diameter that is too small.
Asked by: Thomas
I found a canvas drawstring bag that is thick enough to absorb some shock when jostled around with the weight of the head in it. Generally rainproof too. I checked sporting goods stores, REI, and eventually found one at an army navy store.
