For smoother gameplay, the ASUS Strix GeForce GTX 980 Graphics Card offers a GPU that is factory overclocked to 1178 MHz. This boost in processing speed allows the GPU (graphics processing unit) to handle data more quickly, removing bottlenecks which could result in dropped frames during intense gaming sequences. The STRIX GTX 980 has 4GB of GDDR5 vRAM coupled to 2048 CUDA GPU cores. The cores are arranged using NVIDIA's Maxwell architecture for efficient operation. Graphics intensive programs can utilize the Maxwell architecture's parallel configuration of the CUDA cores to speed up render times and other tasks that benefit from parallel processing.
Operating at full tilt, this Superclocked GeForce GTX 980 can output 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution at up to 60 fps. With that resolution you can drive one 4K display or use NVIDIA's Surround and take advantage of multiple outputs for an immersive gaming experience. Surround displays games on up to three 2K (2048 x 1080) monitors and can utilize one more 2K monitor for auxiliary tasks. 4K resolution can be output from any one of the three DisplayPorts or the HDMI port.
ASUS's DirectCU II cooler quietly keeps the card's operating temperature in check. The cooler uses two large fans and a 10mm heatpipe to transport heat away from the GPU. 0dB technology allows for the card to stop the fans and be completely silent when the GPU remains under a set temperature. This type of cooler is most useful in medium to large towers where airflow inside the case is not a concern. The addition of the DirectCU II cooling system allows ASUS to overclock the GTX 980 further, achieving a maximum boosted clock speed of 1279 MHz.
For control over the card's operation, the included GPU Tweak software allows you to fine tune overclocking, fan speed, and component voltages. The software will also automatically keep the card's drivers up to date. Also included is GPU Tweak Streaming to share your on-screen action online in real-time.
