Kessler Crane MG1001 Reviews

Fast, safe and sturdy.

There are quick-release clamps for 1/3rd the cost, but they are not as quick and seemingly not as sturdy the Kessler. The drop-in design that instantly latches the plate is great.

Amazing.

I spent a lot of time shopping for a quick-release system upon which I could mount (A.) a tripod head, or (B.) a jib, or (C.) a slider. Mounting those items involves different considerations compared to just mounting a camera. I tried the typical quick-releases intended for cameras, with unsatisfactory results (in particular, rubber or cork pads are bad when you need to prevent flexing of the payload atop the quick-release). However, I'm happy to report that the Kessler Kwik Receiver has exceeded my expectations. I use it in conjunction with several Kwik Slider Plates which are mounted on the base of my tripod head, jib, and slider for instant swapping (without compromising on a rock-solid mount). The system is pricey, but absolutely worth the performance......especially when you are flying a camera on a jib arm above your talent's head.

Robust and easy to use

Really simple and easy to use. I bought this because I attached my 4x5 camera to my tripod once and didn't fasten the QR plate correctly, so I dropped it and broke my ground glass! But the click when you attach this receiver makes it very clear that your camera isn't going anywhere. Nice.

Not cheap but it is a quality machined piece of gear. Got it to use with my carbon fiber Teris JQ40 jib to allow quick release attaching to my tripod head.

Best Quick Release System I've Found

I now own 4 of these quick release receivers and am very happy with the strength and security these receivers afford me when mounting heavy camera systems...up to 40 lbs. No issues and am very pleased with the Kessler system.

The centerpiece of my builds now

This Kwik receiver is sturdy and reliable. Even though it's pricey, it is incredibly well-made. I keep saving up to add additional receivers to my kit so that I can quickly (and safely) move cameras between different setups on sliders, tripods, and jibs. I've attached a photo of it in one of my setups, bridging a Hercules head and a jib arm with an Arca mount.

Definitely the best

You get what you pay for, and you pay a LOT for this guy, but it's undoubtedly the most secure Arca Swiss clamp. Better to spend money on the clamp than on a new camera when it hits the ground.

Fast and Secure way to mount your camera

Great way to secure your camera. Super simple to use and understand. A con is that its seems pricey but I'd say its worth every penny. The only other Con is now I want 3-4 more for every setup I have.

question

How balanced is this receiver? I'd love to add it to my gimbal but not if it's particularly heavy on one side (which was what I discovered when trying to do the same thing with a manfrotto receiver)
Asked by: Zak
The Kwik Release Receiver from Kessler Crane is well balanced.

question

Is this compatible with the ProAm USA Autopilot Camera Stabilizer System?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes it is, you will be able to mount this on to B&H #PRSTA9 which is the ProAm USA Autopilot. You will also want to purchase B&H #KEMG1017 which is the the Kessler Crane Kwik Short Camera Plate to go along with the receiver.

DO YOU HAVE THE V2 VERSION ?
Asked by: Adam
A B and H staff member has already confirmed this is the second version of this product. I have two of these. They are very pricey, but by far the best quick release mount available. I'm using one on my tripod head and another on a Stroboframe off-camera flash bracket. The red sliding bar allows for easily and securely placing your camera in the mount with one hand. Closing the leaver firmly locks it in place.

question

Does this have 1/8 mounting holes? What is the physical dimensions? Will this mount this to a steadicam solo?
Asked by: Troy
We believe you mean 3/8 -16 or 1/4 -20 mounting threads. It has both of these. These are the two world standard tripod mounting sizes.

How does this Kessler quick release compare to ...

How does this Kessler quick release compare to the similar offerings from RRS? Both are Arca-Swiss compatible QR clamps. Why would I choose one versus the other?
Asked by: Eric
Sorry for such a slow response, Eric, but I have been on meds for several days. I will answer your question by taking you on this clamp's journey. Sorry for this slow response,Eric, Eric, I have not used the RRS. But I know this clamp is good. And it is necessary for my application. Mounting it to a Gitzo g1570 pan and tilt head. I have learned to loathe that head because of stiffness and transport issues. But I have returned it to service. That head requires this lever clamp! Will the arca swiss plate that comprises part of the weebill s quick release fit in this?
Asked by: Caleb
Hello Caleb, I am not familiar with the "weebill". But it does fit Acratech, Kirk, Desmond....and their own dovetail plates of course. With the help of a machine shop.... I adapted an Acratech Long Lens Head to work with this clamp. Previously it was mounted on a Gitzo g1570. You become accustomed to this big honkin' platform. I hope this is helpful information. Respectfully, Joseph from the U.S.A. in the Philippines
