Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND Filter for Solar Photography (165 x 165mm, 13-Stop)
Key Features
  • 3.9 Optical Density
  • 15-Layer Coating on Outside of Filter
  • Hydrophobic and Scratch Resistant
  • 2mm-Thick SCHOTT Superwite Glass
This 165 x 165mm Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND Filter is a solid neutral density filter providing a 13-stop reduction in exposure. This 3.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Safe for solar eclipse photography?
Asked by: Rong
This filter would not be safe for shooting a solar eclipse. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest 100mm Holder Kit with 5.4 (18 Stop) Eclipse Filter B&H # FOFCHKE54100 is a suitable filter.

Will this filter be SLIM ENOUGH to slot into a Canon 300/2.8 and 400/2.8 lens? I have the drop-in filter holder that accommodates 52mm screw-in filters, but they need to be SLIM enough to fit into the drop-in slot on top of the 300 and 400 mm lenses. Will it work?
Asked by: Robert James
There is no published list of compatible filters for that filter holder--the only filters guaranteed to fit are those provided by Canon. Because the Formatt Hitech 52mm Firecrest ND 1.5 Filter (5-Stop) has a "super-slim" design, it may work.

Will this filter fit inside the Wine Country Camera 150 mm x 150 mm filter vault? I see the Formatt Hitech is 4 mm thick. I think the Wine Country Blackstone filters are 2mm thick but I can find no information to verify this.
Asked by: Mike
The Wine Country filter holders have 2mm slots, so that filter is not compatible.
