RoadTrip Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod Kit (Blue) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 61.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not yet on the road again I did a lot of research and also spoke with customer service at B&H. They were very helpful in helping me narrow it down. I like the legs. They are light weight and I'm getting used to the turning locks (I prefer the clips.) As a woman, I have smaller hands than a man, so find that it is hard to turn all three locks at the same time. This is not a big problem and I will get used to it. On the other hand, I am not a fan of the head lock for the camera. My Manfrotto has a clip and push lock so that you are sure your camera is locked in. This would be a safer design. My 4 stars is because it is light and that means I am more likely to take it with me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just so so Got this tripod for backpacking. It is definitely light weight. But it's not all that sturdy. If you plan on only using it on sturdy ground, then it will be fine. I would not advise using it in streams or for waterfalls, or any situation that might be sketchy. The ball head does hold my MK D III with my 16-35 lens, but would not trust it for my 70-200 2.8 lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light weight and sufficiently sturdy I carry this attached to the back of a pack on hikes. It's light and compact. There are a lot of leg sections but loosening and tightening them to lock position quickly isn't a problem. I have a much heavier, sturdier tripod for studio work that has a pan head. The difference between the two - the MeFOTO is so light that when fine tuning the ball head to frame your shot, you're probably going to be frustrated because you also pull on the tripod and once you tighten the ball head, your shot isn't framed exactly as expected -- suggestion, attach something heavy to the hook on the center post in order to weigh it down.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not recommend for hiking/landscape photography As an armature but knowledgeable photographer I bought this for traveling and using during hiking as I do lot of long exposure shots, sunset/sunrise photography. It was good for travelling around Europe and light but I don't recommend using it for hiking or landscape photography. I find it's not sturdy and even has fallen over with my camera on it. After 6 months and using it only a few times, the bottom leg will not stay extended. I've tried taking it apart & cleaning it but it's not a durable product. I use it mostly with my Canon 6D & 24-105 mm lens. I'm really disappointed with it for the price and if I could return it or sell it if I could. I'm starting to believe the twist lock system that's on this tripod is not a good idea either as it can't be tighted after using it. For any serious photographers I would not recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, compact tripod perfect for travel I always carry a tripod when I travel but found that I would sometimes leave it in my hotel room in instances when I'd be carrying a lot of lenses or a backup body. Also, my Manfrotto takes up a lot of room in my suitcase. I purchased the Roadtrip specifically for travel and am confident it will meet my needs. It's sturdy enough to hold my 5D Mk III & assorted lenses. It's not substantially lighter than my Manfrotto but it folds up much smaller -- a big plus. I wish the quick-release plate didn't require carrying a coin to attach the camera but other than that I'm pleased with its design and construction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great travel tripod I've been looking for a lightweight, compact, and relatively inexpensive tripod for a while now. This is exactly what I've been looking for. It is extremely compact and light weight. You can easily throw it in a carry on bag or carry it on your backpack without much extra bulk and weight. I use this with a canon 6D with either a 24-104L lens, or a 70-300 lens. It feels very sturdy and the head locks down very tight. I haven't noticed any drooping like I did with my old tripod. The controls on the head are also very intuitive and easy to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Compact and Lightweight Design The RoadTrip comes with a handy and well-made travel case. Also included are set of spiked feet that can easily be swapped out for the rubber feet that are pre-installed on the tripod. Another clever feature of the MeFoto Series of tripods is the ability to detach one of the legs (the padded one) and remount the ball head on it to make it a monopod. When hiking the trails around Hong Kong, its come in handy as a walking stick and gives me a semi stable platform to shoot from. This has been especially useful when shooting some of the Black Kites (birds of prey) that are local to Hong Kong. The RoadTrip does a great job of offering a stable platform for being such a compact tripod. The heaviest camera and lens combination that I have used on it is the Canon 1DX with 70-200 2.8. One word of caution is that with that kind of weight and long exposures, I did find some issues with sharpness so there are limits you should be aware of. One great feature to help give you more stability is a spring-loaded hook on the bottom of the center column. When extended, you can hook your camera bag or any other weighted ballast that will significantly add to the rigidity to the platform. Unfolding the tripod is a bit of a cumbersome process due to an inverted leg design. To unfold the tripod, you have to unfold the legs 180 degrees and push in the locking tabs. This then exposes the center column, which is in the extended position. While you can certainly shoot with the column in that position, maximum stability requires that you lower the center column so that the ball head rests just above the legs. This is the tradeoff that you must be okay with in order to get the folded length down to 15.4 inches and one that I have struggled getting used to. The MeFoto is a great little tripod. It is very well made and is easily transportable. While it will not replace my heavier duty tripod, it's a great alternative when mobility is important. While size was the most critical factor for me, I think I would actually rather give up a few inches in favor of a design that requires fewer steps to unfold and extend the legs. The design of the camera plate is also not something I am thrilled with as I would like the ability to add and remove the camera plate by hand rather that using a coin or tool to do so. This however should be easily remedied by adding a quick release mechanism to the camera plate (which hopefully the folks at MeFoto will do on future versions). After 4 months of use, I do not have plans on searching for another lightweight and compact alternative and the RoadTrip will remain a part of my mobility kit. Its size, weight and stability are good enough to overcome any minor faults that I find with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick and Sturdy I just took my new MeFOTO Roadtrip carbon fiber tripod out for its first field trip with my new Sigma 150-500 mm lens (on a Nikon D90 body). The setup was quick (twist locks on the legs were a feature I wanted) and the tripod felt stable on a gravel surface. I think this is probably about the lightest tripod that I would want to trust for the 150-500 mm lens. The Roadtrip seems like a good compromise between sturdiness and light weight for hiking out to wildlife shots.
