Lightweight & secure

Let be honest, that's the biggest feature we want to know; and this tripod offers both. I'm using it mostly for my camping and hiking trips. I was worried that it wouldn't be sturdy enough, but once I used it, those worries were long gone. Using the monopod feature was very helpful. Ball head is smooth when panning left and right during video Twist lock is secure Cameras being used: Sony A7iii - 24mm-105mm Canon 70D - 18mm-135mm

Fast set up tripod The road trip carbon fiber tripod by Mefoto is a great strong tripod for fast set up the toggle allows you to quickly release and secure the legs as compared to a twist type secure system also the ability to get multiple colors to fit your camera set up if so desired is large

It's hearty enough to handle my big lenses, yet still light enough for my outdoor forays. As I approach 70, every pound counts.

the maneuverability of this tripod is its biggest pro. its buttons allow for quick setup and changes and its light weight only adds to this mobilization. great bonus is the bag - zipper bag that's quite quality compared to other drawstring and flimsier bags given with tripods.

Love this lightweight tripod!

The service from B & H is unmatched anywhere. Received my tripod within 5 days of ordering on a Saturday, across the US/Canada border and used it on arrival to travel through a conservation area shooting with my Sony a6000. Love the light weight, which means I will have it with me everywhere, along with the ease of opening the legs and adjusting the height. It was sturdy enough to do the job and functional enough to handle the uneven terrain, a trip into the water, etc. The built-in bubble level came in handy as well. I plan to take it with me on an overseas upcoming trip and it will fit into my suitcase. As well, the handy heavy duty carrying case that came with it is much appreciated. Also, extra steel pointed feet were included. Just wish extra rubber feet would also be included for events where they may come off unnoticed. Nice kit.

After ordering several different tripods, all of which were either too heavy or much too large for me (I am 5’3”), this little MeFOTO seems just perfect. I am not a pro photographer so do not find any problems with stability, in relation to large/heavy equipment. However I DO notice that there is a very slight movement of the head with the weight of my Canon 80D with the 50/250 EF-S lens. I am hoping the head will settle a bit from being brand new. As I improve in my abilities, I may replace the head with something a little better............

Used 4 times, something fell off or out 3 times

The only thing that's solid on this are the carbon fiber leg segments. Construction and assembly are ABYSMAL. Nothing remains as tightened: simply carrying it to a destination in its shoulder bag will loosen all the leg segments. The leg segments have fallen out on me twice. There are some plastic shims, and I don't know whether they are supposed to remain on the tubing or in the tube, but they get separated, and then you can't retract the leg segments all the way after reassembling the leg. And after 3 uses, the allen nuts attaching one leg to the center unit became loose, and they will not stay tightened after taking a wrench to them. At first I thought the unit's problems had to be my fault. But with the exception of the first time, every time I go to use it, I have to fix something. My biggest regret is giving it a second and third chance, because now it's too late for me to return it.

Great travel gear but a little short

This is a great travel tripod as it is lightweight to carry and folds down to a small package. I have not had a chance to use it in heavy winds but it looks like it will be sturdy enough to handle normal winds. I just got back from a workshop where I used it and all is good. I carried it attached to my bag so it was ready when I needed it. My only complaint is that it is a little short. You can use the center shaft extension to get more height but then it might be a little wobbly. Thank goodness for titling LCD displays.

I recently purchased a Nikkor 200-500mm lens. Does this laptop holds the weight of the lens?
Asked by: Manasa
When using long lenses like the Nikon 200-500mm lens you need to use a series 3 tripod. Because the lens has a small angle of view the MeFOTO RoadTrip Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod Kit (Black) is not sturdy enough. It is also better to use a gimbal head. The Robus RC-5558 Vantage Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripod and Oben GH-30 Gimbal Head Kit would be a better choice. Here is the link:

Comparing the MeFOTO RoadTrip Aluminum and Carbon ...

Comparing the MeFOTO RoadTrip Aluminum and Carbon tripods. The only difference I can find is in weight: Carbon: 3.1lb; Aluminum: 3.6. Every other spec appears to be identical. So I'm basically paying double to save 8 ounces, is that correct? Am I missing anything?
Asked by: Austin
That is correct, however carbon fiber absorbs vibration better, which is better for long exposures.

Is the ball head removable? I would like to put my own ball head on this tripod.
Asked by: Michael H.
No, I don't see any way to remove the head, nor do I see anything in the instruction manual about removing the head.

Is the MeFoto Carbon Road Trip tripod really only .5 pounds lighter than the aluminum version? Since it is close to twice the price, it does not seem to be such a cost effective weight savings. For those who have handled both, is there a significant real-world difference? Thank you.
Asked by: Chotto B.
I have not handled both, but can tell you that the main difference between aluminum and carbon fiber is the vibration absorption and damping properties in carbon fiber are far better than that of aluminum. There are third party reviewers of tripods that have tested vibration resonance and decay for various tripods, if you're interested. For me, vibration damping was a very high criteria, so I was able to justify the cost. Additionally, the reason that the weight savings are not that spectacular is because only the legs and center column are carbon fiber. The chassis and head are still aluminum. It really comes down to you taking a look at what your true needs are (travel, weight, photography style, etc) and assessing what product fulfills those criteria the best.

I am considering this product but I have heard some concerns about the QR plate. I have an EM1. Does anybody have any experience of suggestions? Thank you.
Asked by: Moshe S.
Ditto the other answer. The plate screws in with allen wrench (or has groves for a screw driver or coin). I use it primarily for travel and have no complaints.

I was looking to buy this tripod, Is it good for DSLR with 70-200 mm or Sigma 150-600 mm lens attached ? I mostly do landscape in low light situations or long exposure. My concern is vibration rendering a shot blurry. Thanks,

I have used this with a similar lens and my mirrorless and done a lot of night photography with no issues
