B+W 77mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC Filter
Key Features
  • Helps to Eliminate Reflections and Glare
  • Reduces Haze and Blue Cast in Landscapes
  • Greater Color and Tonal Saturation
  • High Efficiency Kaesemann Foils
The B+W 77mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

B+W 66-045620 Overview

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

Kaesemann-type filters feature greater optical efficiency than regular polarizing foils and are more neutral in color. The polarizing foils are cemented between plano-parallel optical glass layers, which are then precision-polished to achieve the most accurate plano-parallel surface. This edge sealing protects the filter layers from humidity and are ideal for use with high-speed telephoto and apochromatic lenses.

The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Kaesemann polarizing foils provide highly neutral coloring and higher image quality than conventional polarizing foils.
Multi-Resistant Coating offers both protection to the glass and helps to improve light transmission and image quality.

Brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.

question

Does it suit for Nikon D3200 model ?
Asked by: Vijay J.
Its actually not about the camera body, it needs to fit the lens thats attached. If you look on the end of your lens there will be small numbers that will let you know the mm size of the lens. I believe this comes in 2 size options, so order accordingly.

question

I just recently got this filter on a 24-hour sale. It had some specks on the filter- no big deal. I used a rocket blower first, then tried a dry microfiber cloth. I got horrendous smearing. So I tried one of the moist lens wipes and that just made it worse! I've never had this much trouble with smearing on any lens or filter before. Did I just ruin the coatings? If that's the case, I don't want this filter if it can't handle basic cleaning procedures.
Asked by: Steve A.
I would use an liquid lens cleaner. It looks like you have grease spots on the filter.

question

Vignetting on a Tokina 11mm-16mm?
Asked by: Charles A.
I wouldn't know as I purchased it for my Nikon 80-400. But this filter would probably vignette because it is not the 'thin' variety. I would purchase a Nikon 77mm 'thin' polarizer and see if it vignettes, especially at f/22. You may get away with it seeing this lens is for cropped sensors.

question

How is this version different from XS-Pro? I wonder because it's $30 different in the price.
Asked by: Lam
The XS-Pro has a thinner frame to help limit vignette with wider lenses. And the XS-Pro has an additional coating that helps keep the filter clean and makes it easier to clean. Otherwise optically they are about the same.

question

Will this help with reflections on furniture/product photography when using studio strobes with soft boxes?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, the B+W Kaesemann Circular Polarizer MRC filter will help to cut reflections in product photography using studio strobes and soft boxes. Depending on the lights you are using, you may also be interested in using polarizers on the lights themselves.

question

Is this filter appropriate for a AF-s Nikkor 10-24mm DX lens? If not, any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Terry
Asked by: Anonymous
That is an excellent filter and will work very well with the Nikon 10-24 lens.

question

Hi,1. On Full-frame 5DII, with 24-70mm wide zoom at 24mm end, will this CPL have vignetting issue?2. Can this filter fit with the lenses hoods (e.g. EF 24-70mm f2.8's EW-83F Hood, and EF 70-200mm f2.8 II's ET-87 Hood)?3. Does this CPL have stain-, scratch-resistance? Or is it easy to clean? Thanks a lot!PK
Asked by: Anonymous
That filter is rated to be fine with that wide a lens. If it has any vignetting it will be very little. The filters are not tested with the lens hood and most polarizing filters do not work with a hood because the filter is made of two parts and you need to be able to rotate it.The filter has 8 layers but does not have a coating specifically for cleaning. But this filter is easy to clean.

question

How thick is the mounting ring? Will it work on 16mm wide angle without vignetting?
Asked by: Anonymous
That filter has a 5mm high ring. It depends on the specific lens if it will vignette or not. It might vignette a little in the corners with a 16mm wide lens. If you are using an APS-C camera not full frame camera most likely it will not.
