The 105mm Firecrest SuperSlim UV 370nm Filter from Formatt Hitech is a clear, ultraviolet control filter that is also suitable for general use. When applied, ultraviolet light waves down to 370 nanometers are blocked, helping to limit the light that enters a camera to the visible spectrum. The appearance of blue casts that can occur while recording video or still photos under daylight that also features ultraviolet light are reduced, preserving color accuracy throughout the frame. While a Firecrest UV 370nm filter is sufficient under many lighting conditions, in other instances a higher degree of ultraviolet control is required, such as that provided by a Firecrest UV 400nm filter. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter.
Formatt Hitech Firecrest UV filters are constructed from Schott Superwhite glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity, and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible and UV light. This Firecrest SuperSlim 105mm filter features a durable, lightweight, 5.5mm-thick aluminum-alloy filter ring that serves to minimize the potential for vignetting, and includes corresponding 105mm front filter threads for use with other screw-on filters. A 105mm Firecrest UltraSlim filter may be used when a non-threaded, 3.0mm-thick filter ring is needed to maximize vignetting prevention.
To eliminate internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface of the Formatt Hitech 105mm Firecrest SuperSlim UV 370nm Filter features 15 layers of anti-reflection coating. These coatings also offer greater protection to the filter and help it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.
This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.
