Rokinon 12mm f/2.8 Fisheye Overview

The 12mm f/2.8 ED AS IF NCS UMC Fisheye Lens for Canon EF Mount from Rokinon provides a 180° diagonal angle of view on full-frame cameras for an ultra-wide angle, distorted perspective that is useful for architectural interiors, landscapes and creative experimentation in any photographic application. The f/2.8 maximum aperture is effective in low light situations and enables some measure of shallow depth of field control.

The lens' sophisticated optical design consists of 12 lens elements arranged in 8 groups including three elements made of low dispersion ED glass and two aspherical lens elements to minimize coma and chromatic aberrations. Highly effective nanocrystal anti-reflection (NCS) coating applied together with UMC coatings improve light transmission and reduce ghosting. Its internal focus system enables its compact design and keeps the front element from extending during focus.

As a manual focus, manual aperture lens, it offers a wide, easy to grip focus ring and bright aperture, distance and depth of field markings. A removable petal-shaped lens hood is included.

An ultra wide-angle fisheye lens with a 12mm focal length on full-frame cameras and a 19.2mm equivalency when used on APS-C format cameras. Its distorted perspective is useful for interiors, landscapes, group shots and many creative wide-angle applications.
Extra low dispersion and aspherical lens elements reduce aberrations for sharp, color-accurate imaging.
Nano crystal coating and ultra multi-coating on the lens elements improves light transmission and reduces ghosting and flare.
Manual focus lens with an internal focus system and wide, rubberized focus ring.
Manual aperture control with bright markings for aperture, distance and depth of field.
Sturdy metal barrel with removable petal-shaped lens hood.

I have a lensbaby 5.8 and it gives me the full circle image on Canon full frame, but it doesnt take up the entire frame. Will this 12mm still give me the entire circle image or will some of the circle be outside of the image frame?
Asked by: Mark
It is not a circular fisheye. You can get a full circle image with this Canon lens: https://bhpho.to/334mi92

question

Will this 12mm FF lens operate similar to the 19.2mm APS-C equivalency, if I have it hooked up to my metabones speedbooster utlra 0.71x / GH4 combo?
Asked by: William J.
If you are referring to the full-frame equivalent angle of view/focal length of the lens, when using the Metabones T Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter and adding the 2x crop factor of the Micro Four Thirds sensor, the Rokinon 12mm f/2.8 ED AS IF NCS UMC Fisheye Lens for Canon EF Mount would have a full-frame equivalent focal length of approximately 17mm. As such, it would be wider than a 19.2mm lens.

question

What makes the rokinon $100 more than the samyang when samyang makes both?
Asked by: Steve K.
Marketing decisions by manufacturers often are not monetarily linear. Outside of the possible brand name durability and recognition of Rokinon, we suggest that buying the less expensive lens would be the way to go.

question

Will this work on canon 7D APS-C?
Asked by: John R
Yes, but the 8mm APS-C version would be cheaper and wider-angle than this.

This lens has 180 degree field of view on full frame. What is the field of view on APS-C?
Asked by: Tony
Thank you Reuben. 124 degrees on Sony APS-C is a really useful field of view. Also makes it worthwhile getting the 8mm f2.8 APSC lens as well, for those times when a full 180 degrees is needed.
