    Yongnuo YN-E3-RT Reviews

YN-E3-RT Wireless Speedlite Transmitter for Canon is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 171.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wow After purchasing many pocket wizard transceivers and then realizing that it is a crazy amount of batteries to setup 4 flashes with transmitters. And when I looked into built in radio to cut back on the amount of batteries. I was not kean in throwing down $300 for the Canon transmitter after my pockets Wizard investment so, I thought I would try out the Chinese knock off first for a fraction of the price not really expecting much from it. I have to say it works great. Being able to adjust flash powers and sync modes remotely is a huge advantage over the pocket wizard system. I have no complaints with the build quality as of yet. Looks and feels like the Canon version which made for easy familiarity.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works, but quality issues. I haven't used this many times but it's worked well. On my last bettery change the battery door broke. I wrote them and got the following response. Thanks for contacting us!This service center provides technical support and product maintenance. We are sorry that we don't provide the parts and components. If the YN-E3-RT battery cover is needed, please try to order it from the official YONGNUO ----------------------------). For the accessories may not display on the page, please write the seller an email before you make an order.Thank you very much for your great support for YONGNUO products! If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again.I'm now buying a different transmitter - I'd be cautious of quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked Well with 600ex-rt - cheaper quality though I own the canon st-e3-rt and needed a second setup for duplicate headshot sessions at a conference. Budget was tight so I opted for the yn-e3-rt with fingers crossed. Based on other reviews I felt comfortable it would perform. I am pleased to say after 200 headshot sessions at the conference there was never one fail by the Yongnuo product. Worked easily with my Canon 600 ex-rt flashes just in the same way as the st-e3-rt. My only negative so far is that it is noticeably cheaper quality so I am wondering about long term durability but with proper care and due to price it is a good value.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does not work with the new canon 430ex III-Rt This transmitter does not work with the new canon 430ex III-RT which is aslo radio as the 600ex-rt. This transmitter works well with the 600ex-rt but does not work with the 430ex III-RT. Asked the Yonguo support and this is the answer I received: Thanks for contacting us! For we don't have a Canon 430EX III-RT to test with YN-E3-RT, we are not sure if they are compatible. We sincerely sorry for the incovenience brings you and thank you very much for your kind understanding!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good & Reasonably Priced item Small, nice profile. Easy to use, especially in the TTL mode. The manual is a word for word translation from chinese, so it takes a while to understand it. But You Tube videos help. Reasonably priced. Controls 15 flashes. Unfortunately, does not controls other type of Yongnuo triggers & receivers. Only works with the YN-600EX TTL flashes that have the receiver built in. But works OK. I have only used it a couple of times, but is OK. Not sure about the range yet. I have to use it at an event next month and will see how far I can take the slave flash to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, except for one problem This worked fine the one time I used it before I returned it, except for one problem. I shoot brackets in live view with my Canon 5D4. As I change the shutter speed for each bracket, the exposure of the view in live view should lighten or darken as the shutter speed changes. However, sometimes the view does not change, so I cannot tell when I have taken enough brackets. I had this same problem with the YN622C-TX controller. I had 2 of them that caused the same problem. That caused me to get the Canon 600EX-RT flash. I got the YN ST-E3-RT transmitter instead of the Canon version to save money. So, I decided to bite the bullet and return it and get the $300 Canon version.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Has Quality Control and Documentation Issues The YN-E3-RT I received did not fit securely on my Canon 5DMkIII, the same problem noted by other reviewers. Firmware revision was 1.18, the latest available on the YN site. An additional problem - the memory save and restore function on the unit I received did not work. All other functions I tested appeared to work (ETTL, Manual, Strobo and Group) including remote release and test flash capability with the YN-E3-RX receiver. Note that these functions do not work when this receiver is used with the Canon ST-E3-RT transmitter. An additional problem is that the personal functions available on the YN-E3-RT are not documented in the manual included with the unit nor in the manual available for download on the YN website.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product for the price Purchased the YN-E3-RT to be used with Canon 600EX-RT and Yongnuo 600EX-RT speedlites. Easy to use. I have controlled up to 6 speedlites with this unit and it has worked flawlessly. The AF assist light helps in low light. Don't have any mounting issues. Small and compact and doesn't take up much room in a camera bag. I am able to assign flashes in different groups and control their output. I can mix E-TTL with manual and even go to high speed sync. I do wish that you could control the zoom. With other transmitters on the market this one is the best bang for your buck

    question

can i cancel the auto power-off function in this device, perhaps via customization similarlly to the Canon's transmitter? thanks.
    Asked by: Anonymous
According to page 26 of the Yongnuo YN-E3-RT Instruction Manual under the Custom Function settings, C.Fn-01 controls Auto Power Off. When the transmitter is not operated for 5 min., the power turns off automatically to save energy. Setting 0: ON is enabled, which is the standard setting; 1: OFF would disable this function.

    question

Can I use the transmitter to remotely control the zoom of the speedlite?
    Asked by: Richard L.
No; flash zoom cannot be changed in camera or trigger menus, so youll have to manually zoom the flash head on the flashgun itself.

    question

ok, maybe this is a dumb question and I'm not seeing something right in front of me. But, my RN-Y3-RT has an odd usb port and the only two cables that came with it connect to the camera. How do I connect the odd USB port on the transmitter to my PC's USB A port in order to update the firmware? Thanks
    Asked by: Derek H.
The Yongnuo Wireless Speedlite Transmitter for Canon (MFR # YN-E3-RT) has a standard USB 2.0 Mini-B 5-pin female connector. You would need a USB 2.0 Type Mini-B male to USB Type A Male USB cable for your usage needs. The Pearstone USB 2.0 Type A Male to Type B Mini Male Cable (White) - (3'), B&H # PECUAMUMBM3W, or the Zacuto Right-Angle Mini to Standard USB Cable (32 ), B&H # ZAZUSBC, would be two USB cables we carry that would work for your planned usage needs.

are there problems with canon 5dmii and 580 ex flash ?
    Asked by: danh
The Yongnuo YN-E3-RT Wireless Speedlite Transmitter for Canon, B&H # YOYNE3RT, is not compatible for use with the Canon 580EX or the Canon 580EX II Speedlite Flash. The Yongnuo YN-E3-RT Wireless Speedlite Transmitter for Canon is a radio wireless transmitter and is only compatible for use with Canon speedlite flashes that have built-in radio transceivers. The only flashes currently in Canon's lineup that have built-in radio transceivers that would communicate with the Yongnuo YN-E3-RT would be the Canon 600EX II-RT, the Canon 600EX-RT, and the Canon 430EX III-RT Speedlite Flashes. The Canon 580EX II Speedlite Flash is an older flash model that only has optical infrared wireless remote triggering (not radio triggering), and as such, would require the Canon ST-E2 IR Speedlite Transmitter, B&H # CASTE2, or the or the Vello FWIRC-C FreeWave IR TTL Flash Commander for Canon, B&H # VEFWIRCC, for wireless triggering usage needs.

    question

Can Yongnuo YN-E3-RT control (trigger, HSS, power control, TTL) - Jinbei HD610 and Jinbei Caler 600RT speedlights?
    Asked by: Chikara Y.
The YN-E3-RT can only control the power, trigger and control the TTL/HSS functions in the Canon 600 series flashes, the Canon 430 EX III RT, and the Yongnuo YN600/YN968 series flashes/

    question

Before I purchase this, I just want to make sure that it will work for triggering my 580exII flashes with the Yongnuo YN-622C II wireless flash transceivers. Has anyone used this combination before?
    Asked by: Todd H.
This transmitter can only fire the 580EX II with the Yongnuo YN-E3-RX attached to it, B&H # YOYNE3RX.

    question

Will this unit work with my Canon 50D and the 580EX speedlight without additional adapters? If so do I set the 580ex to slave mode?
    Asked by: Tim P.
While this transmitter would work on a Canon EOS 50D, it only has the ability to trigger flashes like the Yongnuo YN600EX-RT or Canon 600EX RT which have radio triggering built in.
