Bolt VS-570 Reviews

Gets the job done!

Thus far, I've used this flash for one event with my Sony a6400, and it gets the job done. It doesn't pair perfectly - I occasionally needed to turn the flash on/off to make sure it paired with the camera, and every so often the This accessory is not supported by the device error message would pop up. Despite this, however, it worked in providing a flash. If there was an issue, I just turned the flash off and on again when it was in the hotshoe and the camera was turned on, and this seemed to resolve it.

Good Flash unit.

I don't use the flash often but when I have used it, it seems to work quote well especially when filling in shadows during outdoor portrait shoots.

For now, the flash has only been used for testing. It pairs well with my Panasonic FZ1000. I do like the versatility of the unit; PC & HV sockets, full manual control (good for use with my other cameras). Output is a bit hot, but is easily controlled by camera/flash settings. For now, my only 'do not like' is the battery door. Very poor (fragile) & user unfriendly designs. I see a likely future modification (gaffer's tape & Velcro).

Well, mixed reviews. I purchased one of these items at the sale price and was thrilled with the way it worked with the Panasonic body.I bought a second unit to match and communicate with the first. It worked well on initial trial out of the box. I don't use flash everyday. About the 3rd time using this - just after the return period was up - most of the automatic setting and communication with the camera body stopped. Now I have an inexpensive one purchased on sale and a full priced paper-weight. I would not recommend the Bolt flash

TTL mode NOT function on Sony A7R2.

According to its spect, it should be working with Sony electronics flash interface, but TTL mode did not work. It works well with my Sony A6300.

This flash does work in TTL mode on the Sony A7III, although the camera does not acknowledge that there is a flash unit attached in the External Flash Set menu selection. To be fair, I get the same reading with the Godox TT685SII. One time, I had to slightly wiggle the flash in order to get it to seat properly in the shoe to make contact with the camera. And, the friction lock wheel has already broken with only a few mountings on the camera. When switched on, the flash always reverts to TTL mode. I contacted Bolt support, and they confirmed that there is no way to lock the settings, for example in a manual mode, such that those settings are maintained when the flash is manually switched off. I bought this unit at a nice discount. My rating would have been much lower if I had paid full price because you can buy the more capable Godox for less. My intention for this unit is to use it as a slave for a Godox setup. This idea works, but only in optical mode. The Bolt does not communicate with the Godox in wireless mode. That is not a knock, just a fact, as confirmed by Bolt support.

Do Not Buy!

I will never buy any Bolt product in my life again. I had two flashes from Bolt, VC310 and VS570, and I have 3 micro four third cameras: Olympus EM5, EM5II and Panasonic G9. Basically VC310 works on EM5-II and G9 but not on EM5. VS570 works for the Olympus but not Panasonic. As someone else commented, it won't even fit the shoes on G9. What make it worse is that their customer service doesn't exist -- They never response to your inquiry. Don't waste your time and money.

question

Can I use some cable to shoot with the Bolt VS-570F flash in TTL mode AND off camera? If yes, do you think the HSS will work too? I appreciate your help! (I own an X-T10 and need to shoot off camera in TTL mode; thank you!)
Asked by: R. S.
You wouldn't need an off-camera TTL cable to use this flash TTL off camera - this is a wireless TTL flash featuring slave functionality.

question

Greetings, just received a new Bolt VS-570N, I'm noticing there are options for additional power supplies, PC sync and Firmware upgrade. Where does one get a cable for such or are there three different cables. Thanks... Kevin
Asked by: Kevin T.
There are 3 different cable connections for 3 different purposes. The power supply allows you to connect a battery pack, allowing you to shoot for longer periods of time without running out of battery, and also gives you a faster recycling time from one shot to another. Check out this battery pack as an example: B&H # BOPP310. The PC sync cord connects from the camera to the flash, (assuming your camera has a PC sync) allowing you to take the flash off the camera. Here is a cable from Impact: B&H # IMPCMPCM6 If your camera does not have a PC sync, you can purchase a flash cable from Vello that allows you to do the same thing. B&H # VEOCSN3Finally, the Firmware upgrade is a USB cable that allows you to connect the flash to the computer for firmware updates that Bolt releases.

This unit can be set up as a wireless master. What system can this be a master for? Can it control other Panasonic/Olympus flashes, can it control Canon flashes, etc? For instance, besides this flash, I also own some manual Yongnuo YN560-IV flashes; can they be triggered by Bolt VS-570OP?
Asked by: Ivan
I'm sorry but this flash will only trigger other Bolt 570's.

question

Is this comparable with the Sony A7rii ? Will this work with the radio transmitter that comes with the bare bulb bolt ?
Asked by: Christopher G.
This flash has the Multi-Interface Shoe, which makes it compatible with the Sony A7R II. It will not be compatible with the dedicated radio trigger for the Bolt bare bulb flashes like the VB22.
