Ubiquiti Networks US-48-500W overview

  • 1Description

The US-48-500W UniFi Managed PoE+ Gigabit 48 RJ45 Port 500W Switch from Ubiquiti Networks offers the forwarding capacity to simultaneously process traffic on all ports at line rate without any packet loss. It provides a total non-blocking throughput of up to 70 Gb/s.

The UniFi Switch provides fiber connectivity options for easy expansion of your networks. Each UniFi Switch includes two SFP ports for uplinks of up to 1 Gb/s. By default, the UniFi Switch automatically detects 802.3af/at devices so they automatically receive PoE and 24V passive PoE to power multiple devices on the network. The 48-port switch adds two SFP+ ports for high-capacity uplinks of up to 10 Gb/s, so you can directly connect to a high-performance storage server or deploy a long-distance uplink to another switch.

The switch supports an extensive suite of advanced Layer-2 switching features and protocols, and also provides Layer-3 routing capability. It integrates seamlessly into the UniFi Software-Defined Networking (SDN) platform to create a highly scalable, end-to-end system of network devices across multiple locations — all controlled from a single interface.

    Ubiquiti Networks US-48-500W reviews

    US-48-500W UniFi Managed PoE+ Gigabit 48 RJ45 Port 500W Switch with SFP+ Ports is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great switch. Pricey, but UniFi ecosystem makes it worth it If you're browsing for this switch, you're probably already familiar with the UniFi ecosystems and the products that Ubiquiti offers. It doesn't get much better than their centralized management. This switch is no different in that respect. The switch was adopted and integrated by my UniFi controller, no problem. I took a star off for the design of the enclosure. These fans are LOUD. Before you start with, this is an enterprise piece of equipment and it's supposed to go in a rack with servers that are far louder..., yes I know. Read on. One of the fans arrived DOA, so going back and forth with Ubiquiti product support, they suggested I remove the lid and check to see if the fan was unplugged. I removed the lid only to find the wires had been run oddly and they were blocking the fins of the fan. I rerouted the wires, but before buttoning it up, I powered on the switch to check the operation of the fan. And wouldn't you know, the fans are almost whisper quiet. Huhh?? Placing the switch lid back on, I realize the cutouts for fans on the lid aren't big enough. They produce a whistling effect because the fans are moving so much air. It adds more than 15dB to the fan noise. This to me is an engineering blunder, regardless of where the switch is to be located.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Switch When our Cisco SG200-50 switch died, this is what I chose to replace it and WOW!! It is easy to configure and offers just about every bell and whistle you could want. Ours dovetails with a a UniFi Gateway, 2 UniFi APs and three of their 8 port switches. The POE capacity is amazing and it powers the 2 APs, the 3 switches and our 2 outdoor cameras with ease. UniFi does have a learning curve when it comes to their controller software, but You Tube videos abound on how to learn it. Clearly one of the best investments I've ever made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent SMB POE Switch Setup was not difficult, using it in a medium sized business, and the POE feature and fiber ports are welcome additions. The UniFi controller is mature now and combing the switch with other UniFi devices (Access Points in my case) gives a great console view of the network.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I purchased multiple of these swtiches to replace some aging Nortel managed switches in our school. The control dashboard with centralized management is on par with Cisco Meraki, but nowhere near the cost and without annual maintenance agreements. Ubiquiti is amazing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Have used the APs for a long time, and this is the first switch I've had the need/$ to try. Management is great through the controller. While I like the cloud keys... I still tend to think a PC installed controller is a tiny bit more stable. Features on the switch are great, SFP+ ports at this price range are also a bonus. Routing is in the layer 2+ range: not truly layer 3, and they don't advertise it that way anyway. Works great with VOIP phones. For the price, you won't get the same features in major name brands. Don't hesitate if you are unfamiliar with the company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First one a DOA but B&H Made it right First unit I ordered to Canada was DOA, powered up and just flashed the Ubiquiti light, went through troubleshooting with Ubiquiti and they said that its dead. Contacted B&H and they sent me and RMA with prepaid shipping label to send it back to them free of charge.  They sent back a brand new one, but Canada charged me duty at the boarder for the new one but again B&H covered those costs for me.  Cant say enough good things about the customer service at B&H and the hassle free buying from Canada is amazing. Now on to the actual switch.  I use Unifi Access points and a Unifi cloud key along with POE CCTV Cameras.  This things handles anything you throw at it with ease.  Super easy to set up and get going, configuring ports is a breeze with the Unifi software. Bought the Unifi Fiber SFP and SFP+ units which worked great, just plug in and treat it like a patch cable, set up IPs and done.  Used the SFP+ for a backbone to the server which everything talks to and no matter how many clients, cameras etc are writing / reading from the server it never slows down the network. Overall very happy with the unit but without B&Hs no hassle returns it would have cost a lot to send back to Ubiquiti as they wanted me to pay for shipping back and forth from them...Which would have made this review a lot different tone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from US-48-500W UniFi Managed PoE+ Gigabit 48 Excellent switch, great build quality. This is a great switch made better by the fact it can be monitored and managed to a certain point via the cloud key (another must have).
