Key Features
- Autodetect & Signal Switching
- 10-Bit Data Path
- SDI Loop Through, HDMI & Composite Out
- Selectable Down Converted NTSC/PAL Out
Delivering more than just a basic SDI to HDMI converter, the DECIMATOR 2 3G/HD/SD-SDI to HDMI Converter with Built-In NTSC/PAL Downscaler & Analog Audio Outputs from DECIMATOR provides you with a host of features in a small package suitable for location or a studio environment. The device auto detects the incoming signal, and handles signal switching based on the DIP switch settings you select. The converter maintains a 10-bit data path for your video signal, which minimizes scaling artifacts. It incorporates one SDI input that supports signals up to 3G-SDI, and features a loop through SDI output, HDMI output for the converted signal, and a composite out that automatically scales HD signals delivering either NTSC or PAL video.

I have a video switcher with Program out via SDI, I am told there is embedded audio running out with the SDI video signal.
Will this unit work for my application?
I want my SDI PRGM output from my switcher to feed into a standard LCD TV monitor via HDMI with video and sound.
I want to set up client monitors in the Greenroom down the hall ..
All my SDI feed does for my consumer HDMI TV is video only...Thanks
Hi James,
This is Jules from Symbiosis, Decimator's Master Distributor for your territory.
The Decimator 2 will all you to pass both video and embedded audio from the SDI input to the HDMI output for monitoring on your LCD TV. Just in case you need it, there is also a pair of analog line level outputs for driving an amplifier or set of active speakers as well.
I hope this helps.
Jules

question
Can I use this product to do external video monitoring with Avid Media Composer 8?
NLE, Non-Linear Editing programs, are not meant to be used in such fashion. We would suspect if it were even possible to see live video, it would not be a reliable connection. We recommend sending the video signal to a proper monitor.

question
Will this unit support the downconversion of an HDMI signal from a laptop to composite video? I want to use it to send an HDMI signal from a Mac laptop to a Presidential-type teleprompter system.
This unit wont do that. The HDMI on this unit is an output. The MD-HX will take HDMI and Convert to SDI. Id you need to get to composite you for your teleprompter system you would use the

We are converting HDMI to SDI using a BMD micro converter so we can send a teleprompter PC output to our router. However, our teleprompters only have composite BNC. Can we use this to convert the SDI signal coming from our converter to composite BNC and send it to our router?
Yes, the Decimator 2 will be able to convert an SDI signal to composite BNC.

I need to convert PAL signal to NTSC signal so I can send it into my video switcher then out to my projector. I am using this in the US, but my client is sending me a Broadcast in PAL. for the audience to view. can this unit do this?
Yes, the Decimator 2 3G/HD/SD-SDI to HDMI Converter with Built-In NTSC/PAL Downscaler will be able to convert SDI in PAL to NTSC in a composite down scaled format.

question
I want to convert SDI signal from my NTSC camera to an SDI Signal in PAL (for both audio and video) Will this converter do that?
I'm afraid not. The Decimator 2s SDI loop output will repeat whatever signal is going into the SDI input, so while the HDMI signal would be converted to PAL the SDI loop-out would remain NTSC. To do a conversion and come out in a different format through SDI, you could use the MD-HX, MD-Cross or MD-DUCC. All of these will take NTSC SDI in and output PAL SDI with embedded audio.

question
I want to convert the SDI 1080i signal from my switcher to a 1080p signal to my live streaming server for YouTube. Will this unit do that?
I do technical support for Symbiosis, Decimator's master distributor in the US. The Decimator 2 is definitely capable of doing what you are describing if your streaming server has HDMI input. If you bring the 1080i signal in on the SDI input you can configure the Decimator 2 to output 1080p over HDMI.

question
Can the Decimator 2 simultaneously downconvert the input to composite while passing through the original format to HDMI?I want to input 720p59 over HD-SDI and output both 720p59 over HDMI and downconverted NTSC composite (anamorphic).
From what I have read, yes it can, however I will double check and get back to you. However, I am using 1080p/60 so there may be a difference for you. But this thing is fantastic
