Sky-Watcher S20510 Overview

Sky-Watcher's Star Adventurer Motorized Mount Astro Package is an easy-to-use equatorial mount that offers accurate tracking capabilities for astronomy and astrophotography. With a simple turn of a dial, select from Lunar, Solar, or Star tracking modes, or four speeds from 0.5x to 12x if the modes are not exactly right. An integrated polar alignment scope with an included illuminator help the alignment process in either the Northern or Southern Hemispheres, and a date dial compensates for star drift over time to extend the usability of the scope.

In addition to standard stargazing or astrophotography, the mount is also ideally suited for star-scape photos and has a time-lapse mode. A 2.5mm three-segment stereo jack is integrated into the mount and gives the mount the ability to control a compatible DSLR's shutter release for long-exposure or time-lapse photography. Pre-programmed intervals, based on the tracking mode selected, optimize the exposure times for the subjects selected.

The Star Adventurer mount features a Vixen-style dovetail saddle for compatible accessories and optical tube assemblies (OTAs). It has both 3.8"-16 and 1/4"-20 tripod mounts to fit on most astronomical, photo, or video tripods and is offered here without a tripod, OTA, or counterweights.

question

In the specs says ST-4 type Auto-Guider Compatible . Can you point which auto guider can i use in this device?
Asked by: Gustavo
The ST-4 is an industry standard auto-guider port. Numerous auto-guiders use this same port. It uses 5 wires, one of which is the ground wire, the other four wires nudge the mount east & west (along the right-ascension axis) or north & south along the declination axis. However this mount only has a right-ascension axis (which means it only rotates the mount in the east-to-west direction to compensate for the rotation of the Earth). Any ST-4 compatible auto-guider that supports single axis guiding (since there is no declination axis) will work. The more complicated bit is how to mount the auto-guider. Guiders typically have their own guide scope and this implies that you'd need to get a dual-saddle mount ... to you can attach both the camera & lens to one saddle and the guide-scope and guide camera to the other saddle... and still stay within the payload of the mount.Use of a guider is typically not needed at lower focal lengths (telescopes need them... camera lenses usually do not) and often if you're experiencing smearing in the images it is often a consequence of inadequate polar alignment (which a single-axis auto-guider cannot compensate for anyway) or poor support (flexure issues -- possibly because the tripod isn't beefy enough for the load. Use a strong tripod... if you want to pursue astrophotography, this is not the time to economize or save weight on tripod selection.)
