Sky-Watcher's Star Adventurer Motorized Mount Astro Package is an easy-to-use equatorial mount that offers accurate tracking capabilities for astronomy and astrophotography. In addition to standard stargazing or astrophotography, the mount is also ideally suited for star-scape photos and has a time-lapse mode. A 2.5mm three-segment stereo jack is integrated into the mount and gives the mount the ability to control a compatible DSLR's shutter release for long-exposure or time-lapse photography. Pre-programmed intervals, based on the tracking mode selected, optimize the exposure times for the subjects selected.

The Star Adventurer mount features a Vixen-style dovetail saddle for compatible accessories and optical tube assemblies (OTAs). It has both 3.8"-16 and 1/4"-20 tripod mounts to fit on most astronomical, photo, or video tripods and is offered here without a tripod, OTA, or counterweights.

Incomplete

This is a great product except for it doesn't come with the most important pieces. Like the EQ wedge and the counter weight. So I haven't even been able to use it.

Poor Quality, Weight capacity is wrong, Bad Customer Service

This is rated at 11 pounds payload. The weight of my 5D MK4 and 100-400 MK2 Canon telephoto lens only 6.2 pounds plus the ball head which put me well with in the 11 pound limit. Even with the counterbalance weight I can't get accurate tracking with this payload. I can get sharp images at 200mm and okay tracking with my 70-200 and 2x at 400mm but that it. Only buy this for wide field astrophotography and with my fast f1.4 and f1.8 astro lenses by Canon and Sigma Art I don't need a tracker so this is pretty much useless unless you want to do medium telephoto work. I purchased this in 2016 and also used it for the August 2017 Solar Eclipse. it worked okay. My biggest issue with this item is poor customer service with Sky-Watcher. I've been trying to get a replacement part from them for over 18 months. The tilt lock on the equatorial wedge mount broke. Very cheap plastic and you really need to crank down hard to take any movement out after you do your polar alignment. Since I could never get a response from customer support I just used a socket wrench to tighten the tilt lock bolt. During my multiple support requests with Sky-Watcher I only got an automated response from Celestron. I was going to buy a bigger Celestron Mount to replace this but now I'm reluctant to buy a Celestron since they apparently own Sky-Watcher.

This item is great, moves my Nikon D3 and Nikkor 105mm without any problem. I have had other kit that was not up to the task. As far as B&H Photo - 100% I live in the upstate and shipping is extreamyfast.

Not a good experience

Assembling the product is when I found out the ball head adapter for PHOTOGRAPHY was not included. Had to go back and search more than one page to find where the adapter was even shown on the website. Since I wanted the product for the moon eclipse, I had to use one day shipping, which cost me more than the price of the adapter. Then to find out the adapter does not have holding screws to keep the ball head from rotating under pressure. (Camera with lens rotates) The instruction manual is poorly written, so if you buy this product, make sure you allow enough time to work through your frustrations before you miss an important photo opportunity.

Unit well made but not working out for me???? Seems to be more geared for digital cameras, I shoot film camera's and have not gotten good results yet. The directions for use could be expanded upon for us beginners?

If you are starting out like me, this equipment is ideal. Need a hefty stand though, particularly if there is wind. Using in the southern hemisphere is much easier.

question

In the specs says ST-4 type Auto-Guider Compatible . Can you point which auto guider can i use in this device?
Asked by: Gustavo
The ST-4 is an industry standard auto-guider port. Numerous auto-guiders use this same port. It uses 5 wires, one of which is the ground wire, the other four wires nudge the mount east & west (along the right-ascension axis) or north & south along the declination axis. However this mount only has a right-ascension axis (which means it only rotates the mount in the east-to-west direction to compensate for the rotation of the Earth). Any ST-4 compatible auto-guider that supports single axis guiding (since there is no declination axis) will work. The more complicated bit is how to mount the auto-guider. Guiders typically have their own guide scope and this implies that you'd need to get a dual-saddle mount ... to you can attach both the camera & lens to one saddle and the guide-scope and guide camera to the other saddle... and still stay within the payload of the mount.Use of a guider is typically not needed at lower focal lengths (telescopes need them... camera lenses usually do not) and often if you're experiencing smearing in the images it is often a consequence of inadequate polar alignment (which a single-axis auto-guider cannot compensate for anyway) or poor support (flexure issues -- possibly because the tripod isn't beefy enough for the load. Use a strong tripod... if you want to pursue astrophotography, this is not the time to economize or save weight on tripod selection.)

Very hard to understand what is included! There are 19 pictures in the description showing a declination mount with slow motion control and even a telescope which I doubt is included and begs the question of truth in advertising. So is it only the 'white' thing?
