Is there a bar extension that will allow you to put the weight lower for achieving balance?
Asked by: Ann
I needed to add more weight to my rig but nothing fit perfectly from sky-watcher so I bought a iOptron three pound counterweight from B and H. However, the center hole on the iOptron is 20.5mm and the counterweight rod from star adventurer is only 10.8mm. So the rod is too skinny for the weight and not able to be secured onto the rod tightly. I bought some screws and fender washers and sandwiched the weight with two washers on each end and then tighten the whole thing with a nut. Now I am able to screw in the extra weight to the bottom end of the rod and use it without any wobble (after you take out the original screw and washer from the rod). Just remember the hole size at the bottom end of the rod is an R6 1.0 pitch and you need to buy R6 washers and nuts to fit properly. Now I am still able to use the original weight and move up and down the rod freely as the needs arise. In case you are wondering, the size of the opposite end of the rod is R8 1.25 pitch.
