A long-reaching telephoto zoom characterized by a sophisticated optical design and advanced image stabilization technologies, the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens is part of the esteemed L-series developed for full-frame EOS DSLRs. One fluorite element and one Super UD element have been incorporated into the lens' construction, and both help to reduce aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range in order to deliver notable clarity, image sharpness, and faithful color reproduction. An Air Sphere Coating has also been applied to lens elements in order to reduce lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich imagery. Benefitting the optical components of the lens, a four-stop effective Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake and can be dedicated to different styles of shooting. Furthermore, a redeveloped rotation-type zoom ring pairs with an internal focusing mechanism, and an Ultrasonic Motor, to deliver quick and intuitive handling to benefit handheld shooting. Positioned as a versatile option for sports and wildlife photographers, this lens' list of attributes make it a viable telephoto zoom for a variety of shooting applications.
Housed within a weather-resistant barrel, this lens also features fluorine coatings on the front and rear elements for protection against fingerprints and smudges from affecting image quality. Zoom control is complemented by a dedicated tension ring for adjusting zoom torque. Additionally, other refined design elements include a tripod collar that can be attached or detached with the lens mounted to the camera and an included lens hood that permits easy control over specialty filters with the hood in place.

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Reviews
Nice for the price
Excellent clarity and separation of subject and background (bokeh). Photo is handheld on 5dIV body
Great Versatility. Perfect for Outdoors
I bought this intentionally for an airshow and it's quickly become one of my primary lenses. Never leave home without it.
Excellent lens and and B&H service
Everything in order was in perfect shape, tested out perfect, free overnight shipping; typically excellent B&H service.
Love this lens
I first got the 70-200 f/2.8 ... but I turned that in for the 100-400 which is so much better. I needed the extra length that the 400mmm give me the 200mm is just not long enough. This lens is sharp, and much lighter than the Tamron 150-600 I own. This lens will get used a lot ... easy to use, and I thought I needed the 2.8 this lens at 4.5 is just fine for depth of field shots.
Still One of The Best Telephoto Lens to date.
The Canon EF 100 - 400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens, is still performing to date as when it was first launch on the market. This lens remains tick tack sharp and continue to focus very fast. The Canon EF 100 - 400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens is here to stay.
Great lens
I haven't had a lot of time to use this lens yet but the photos I have taken a wonderful! I took a photo of a Golden eagle and was amazed at the clear, sharp detail.
Super Sharp
Hi All. I took the EF 100-400mm out for the first time this past weekend to a nature preserve. I was absolutely blown away by the sharpness of this lens! I own a 90D and an R5 and I chose this lens so I could use it on either body. I was a bit nervous about how well the lens would perform on the R5 with the EF to RF adapter, but I can say that the performance was flawless. The lens is relatively heavy, but very manageable. On that note, I'm really impressed with the solid construction of this lens. Also, it was a nice, sunny day and I was able to shoot hand-held with great results. Here's my humble two-cents on this lens. It's less expensive than the RF 100-500 and it's been available for quite a while now (so it has several years of testing in the field). It's heavy, but the construction is solid. It works great with the EF to RF adapter, and it comes with a very nice case. It's not the absolute newest tech from Canon, but it's an exceptional value.

Bought it over 4 months ago and used it for daughter's volleyball and basketball games. Bought it with Canon EOS 90D. Despite my lack of talent we have ended up with many great photos.
