Linksys LGS308P overview

  • 1Description

With 8 Power over Ethernet enabled ports, the LGS308P 8-Port Smart Gigabit PoE+ Gigabit Switch from Linksys helps to eliminate the need to run an additional power supply to your network components. The "plus" gives you roughly double the power per port while remaining backwards compatible with the traditional 802.1af PoE networking standard. In addition to Power over Ethernet functionality, this network switch features 8 Gigabit Ethernet ports along with a forwarding rate of 11.90 Mpps, a switching capacity of 16 Gbps, an 8K MAC address table, and 9K Jumbo Frame support.

Quality of Service (QoS)
Numerous QoS features ensure that traffic is prioritized properly to deliver the best possible user experience for real-time applications like voice and video along with bandwidth-intensive graphic/video file uploads and downloads. IGMP snooping limits IP multicast traffic to the ports that requested it, enabling the rest of the network to operate at peak efficiency.
Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+)
Linksys smart switches support the latest 802.3at (PoE+) standards and provide up to double the power budget per Gigabit Ethernet port while offering 802.3af (PoE) backward-compatibility. Power over Ethernet reduces electrical wiring costs, simplifies installation, and supports network devices such as IP cameras and wireless access points in optimal indoor and outdoor locations.
Network Security
Unauthorized access to the network and mission-critical data is a constant concern. Linksys smart switches help secure networks through port authentication and MAC-based port security, requiring clients to authenticate themselves before any data is passed. Advanced DHCP snooping and IP-MAC binding functions ensure network integrity and help prevent network attacks.
Network Expansion
Linksys smart switches include features for quickly expanding and growing your network. Multiple high-bandwidth trunks between switches enhance availability and redundancy. Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and Storm Control features help control planned or inadvertent cable loops.

    Linksys LGS308P reviews

    LGS308P 8-Port Smart Gigabit PoE+ Switch is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small Business Solution I conducted extensive research during my search for a network switch that provided reliable POE for nearly over a year. I concluded by determining the Linksys LGS308P was well-suited for my requirement. The switch is small and very quiet with no hear production. The power supply includes an adapter providing an extended length of cable. The setup is fairly simple but those who may not be familiar with setting up switches may need to do some minor research. The web interface is very user-friendly. During setup, be sure to identify the IP address of your network switch, this does not use the linksys smart wifi feature the router line uses. Overall, I highly recommend this switch because of the 8 Ports which are fully POE capable and the small size of the switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great switch at an excellent price I replaced a failing 5-port unmanaged switch with this 8-port managed switch, and the upgrade was very well worthwhile. I now have statistics on network traffic and packet errors. I configured 4 of the ports as a dynamic link aggregation bond to my Synology NAS to improve concurrent access from multiple users, and provide fault tolerance. The management interface was easy to navigate and I had no problems setting up the switch. The only 2 improvements I would suggest is to have the RJ45 connectors and the power connection on the same side. This configuration would improve the aesthetics of the cabling. Secondly, the activity lights should preferably be on the opposite side to the RJ45 ports, if you think about how the switch would be installed in a typical small office environment. Bottom line, I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone wanting to upgrade to an entry-level managed switch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ALL 8 ports as POE+ The Linksys LGS308P is a smart switch with ALL 8 ports as POE+. I purchased 3 switches to use with our VoIP phones at two of our locations. Unfortunately the power brick on one switch did not work. I returned to B&H for an exchange(they are GREAT!). Overall I would recommend this switch for its size and POE+ capability. I have never been disappointed with Linksys switches in the past.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handy and Simple setup was not complicated yet not plug n play if you don't have some networking background. a lot of features, PoE did work with one device, and didn't work with another device, I'm guessing its a device issue not an issue with the Switch. I'm happy with my new 308P Switch
