General Brand 82CP overview

Tiffen 82mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
Can dramatically enhance a blue sky and make the clouds more prominent
Used best at right angle to the sun
Effective with cameras that use beam splitters in the path of the TTL light meter and with AF cameras

82mm Circular Polarizing Filter is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another winner Lately, Tiffen filters are the only ones I buy. They are such a great value. I recommend them to all my photo friends. The optical quality is perfect even on the most demanding prime lenses. The metal mounts are light-weight, because they use high quality aluminum instead of brass. I have never had a problem (so far) with cross-threading while screwing Tiffens onto the front of the lens. I am using this 82mm on the 24-35 Sigma Art, and there is no vignetting in the corners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works really well This filter is well built, good quality, great for reducing those nasty glares and add something extra to your shot. I am not sure how many stops are lost, but it's very minimal. The sky comes out looking great. It has also helped me a great deal when shooting through glass looking at reflections. A Great filter to add to your kit. Make sure to get step up rings for lenses under 82mm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good filter for the price This filter does the trick. I had some challenges getting to mount securely due to it's thin design and very low thread count. Once it was mounted it worked great. I also wish this filter had a directional light source indicator arrow or something on the rim. I found this feature useful in other filters I have owned. All in all this is a good product and I would recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good CPL filter Replaced a broken ultra-thin and performed equally well. Haven't noticed any vignetting using it on a 16-35mm/7D. As a side benefit I can use the original lens cap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must have for outside shoots Circular Polarizing filter is a must for shooting outside on a bright sunny day. Blue skies get bluer and reduces reflections bouncing off water. I use this filter on my Tamron SP 24-70 2.8 Really happy with the results. At times you have to work at removing the filter due to the front side of the filter rotating, but other than that it does what it was designed too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great I use this on my Sigma 12-24- It works great, the only issues occur at 12-14 mm, like other folks have said, but this is a lens issue, not a filter issue. Sigma should have had a drop-in filter built into the lens.... I also like how it protects the bulging front element- if you drop it,it's cheaper to replace a filter than fix or replace the lens.
