Asustor AS7010T overview

  • 1Description

Designed for home and small/medium business use, especially those with 200 or more users, the AS7010T 10-Bay Enterprise & Multimedia SMB NAS Server from Asustor is a premium NAS server engineered for demanding enterprise and multimedia applications. This 10-bay unit has been designed with AES 256-bit encryption for secure centralized data storage, while Enterprise features and stability are built into the hardware design. This unit has 10 drive bays, each of which natively supports 3.5" and 2.5" SATA III 6 Gb/s and SATA II 3 Gb/s hard drives and SSDs.

The AS7010T is powered by a 3.5 GHz Intel Core i3 Dual-Core processor, which will allow you to run multiple functions simultaneously. The built-in 2GB of DDR3 RAM will allow quick access to frequently-used files and programs. Network connectivity is achieved via the 2 x Gigabit Ethernet ports and external peripherals may be connected using the 3 x USB 3.0 ports, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, and 2 x eSATA ports. Additionally, there is 1 x HDMI 1.4a output for connecting this NAS to HDMI-compatible devices at resolutions up to 4K 2160p, as well an optical S/PDIF audio-out. Should you decide to upgrade to a 10GbE high-speed backbone network, the AS7010T does come equipped with a 10GbE network card expansion slot.

Asustor ships the AS7010T with the ADM 2.0 operating system, which helps simplify managing your NAS, as well as accessing and sharing data. Asustor also lets users download and install add-on packages that are designed for individual or business needs. A variety of RAID modes are supported, which help provide users with data redundancy, speed, or a combination of both. Supported RAID modes include RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, Single Disk, and JBOD. For those who use virtual environments such as VMware, Citrix and Hyper-V, the AS7010T provides cross-platform file sharing, allowing you to easily connect to your NAS device if you are using Windows, Mac OS, or Linux. Using backup utilities such as Backup Plan and Apple Time Machine you can easily backup data from a Windows PC or Mac directly onto NAS server. Also featured is a Network Recycle Bin, Windows ACL support, and SMB 2.0 support. The AS7010T operates on 100-240 VAC and includes an AC power cord, 2 x RJ-45 LAN (Cat 5e) cables, 40 x flat head screws (for 3.5" HDDs), and 40 x flat head screws (for 2.5" HDDs).

Advanced File Permissions Management - Windows ACL
For IT professionals, file permissions configuration is a very important topic, especially in enterprise environments. Because the native Linux system file permission mechanisms are different than those in Windows, in the past, IT professionals had to create a separate set of permissions for files stored on NAS servers. This also limited the number of permission configuration options that were available to them.

In order to help IT professionals simplify their work, Asustor has integrated Windows ACL into ADM. Windows ACL provides a set of 13 different permissions settings, allowing administrators to configure permissions for individual files and folders that can be applied to different groups and users. Windows ACL permissions can be configured from within ADM's File Explorer or Microsoft Windows Explorer, allowing administrators to manage permissions using familiar methods
Meeting the Expansion Needs of Tomorrow, Today
The scale of a business's Internet usage will shift in the wake of its expansion and development. A server that is providing stable service to 100 people today may not be able to handle the needs of tomorrow when the number of employees or applications expands, forcing the business to purchase additional equipment.

Asustor's 70 Series devices help businesses meet the expansion needs of tomorrow, today. All devices in the series come equipped with 10GbE network card expansion slots. Should a business decide to upgrade to a high-speed backbone network, the 70 Series devices will be able to take advantage of this without being limited by the built-in Gigabit Ethernet ports.

Furthermore, when more and more people start to access the NAS or when the number of installed applications increases, the amount of installed memory will be one of the limiting factors affecting the overall performance of the NAS. The AS7010T comes with 2GB of built-in memory which can further be expanded to a maximum of 16GB. Equipped with such flexible expansion features, Asustor's 70 Series NAS devices are a well suited choice for growing businesses.

Please note that the AS7004T does not include a 10GbE network card expansion slot
Data Transfer Performance
ADM 2.3 supports SMB 2.0, which helps reduce the burden of network traffic on the NAS while simultaneously providing a greater data transfer capacity.SMB 2.0 has the capability to increase Windows networking performance and can also increases the number of concurrent Windows client connections. Additionally, it can simultaneously open files, making ADM 2.3 even more suitable for large-scale Microsoft network environments
Cooling Design
When there is a high load on the NAS, the CPU will begin to heat up, affecting the stability of the system. A common way of dealing with this is to lower the CPU frequency which will then cause the temperature to decrease. However, this will also lower the overall performance of the system.

Asustor's 70 Series devices utilize fans with wide speed ranges combined with a smart speed control mechanism that allows the CPU to maintain a controlled operating temperature even under high loads. Under most circumstances, the fans will operate at a low speed, conserving energy. When the system load and temperature increases, the fans will automatically increase their speed to cool the CPU without it having to lower its frequency. This allows the NAS to maintain stability and high performance even under high loads
Multimedia Playback
No matter if it's 4K or 10-bit, XBMC 13 paired with the Intel Core i3 dual-core processor's powerful built-in graphics engine gives you the ability to play virtually any video files with ease. Get ready to enjoy powerful images on ultra high resolution monitors.

Additionally, you can also further add a surround sound amplifier to create a high definition multi-channel listening experience
Audio Output with S/PDIF
Turn your NAS into a digital music hub and let Asustor's 70 Series devices take your local audio playback to another level. You can use SoundsGood or iTunes Server to play high quality digital music from your NAS and further combine it with S/PDIF high fidelity optical output for an greater listening experience that will help bring your music to life
Surveillance System
The 70 Series devices help provide you with stress free reliability when installing a surveillance system in your home or office environment. Installing the Surveillance Center App from App Central turns your NAS into a 24/7, high definition surveillance system. Surveillance Center provides comprehensive cross-platform support, allowing both Windows and Mac users to use familiar web browsers to access their surveillance feeds. Furthermore, Asustor also offers the free AiSecure mobile app that gives users access to all their surveillance feeds while on the go. AiSecure also provides the ability to receive instant push notifications from Surveillance Center, allowing users to keep up with the latest developments. No matter if you need to protect individual assets, loved ones, or your business, the 70 Series devices are a well suited choice when creating a comprehensive surveillance system.

Surveillance Center comes with 4 free IP camera channel licenses. Users can also purchase add-on camera licenses to flexibly add new camera channels. Additionally, two different camera license packages are offered: single channel and 4 channels. Currently, the 70 Series devices can be expanded up to a maximum of 16 channels
