Canon 8114B002AA Overview

  • 1Description

The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens from Canon is a standard zoom compatible with Canon APS-C format cameras. It features a focal length range of 18-55mm which is equivalent to 29-88mm in the 35mm format. Optical Image Stabilization provides the equivalent of up to four stops of shake correction for clear imaging, even in low light.

A high-precision aspherical element reduces chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range for high resolution and contrast. The lens supports Canon's EOS Movie Servo AF feature for smooth and quiet continuous autofocusing during movie recording. This feature is enabled by the use of a six-group zoom system plus a stepping motor focusing mechanism. Additionally, manual focus adjustment is possible while shooting in AF mode, and an internal focusing system enables faster performance, maintains an overall compact lens form-factor and allows for a closer minimum focusing distance of 9.8".

The front element of the lens does not rotate during focusing, allowing you to use polarizing filters without a problem. Optimized lens coatings ensure precise color balance while minimizing ghosting and flare, and the 7-blade circular diaphragm produces pleasing background blur.

Optical Image Stabilization provides up to 4 stops of correction against camera shake, providing you with clearer images, even in dim light.
The STM feature complements the Movie Servo AF feature found on select EOS Cameras with a compact six-group zoom system and a new stepping motor and focus mechanism to deliver smooth and quiet continuous AF during movie shooting.
Manual focus override allows you to utilize the manual focus option at any time, even in autofocus mode, for precise focusing when needed.
One aspherical lens element reduces aberrations and helps to provide overall edge to edge sharpness.

Canon 8114B002AA Reviews

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice lens for the price point I bought this lens to replace the 18-55 mm kit lens that I damaged on a previous trip. This lens autofocuses very quickly and is extremely quiet. I initially wasn't sure the autofocus was working because no sound was being made at all. The STM is great! The glass isn't the fastest, but the 18 mm-end is great for landscapes, and it's nice to have the 55 mm-end for closer work. Given the price, it's a nice lens to have in one's bag. My only complaint is that it's difficult to manually focus on infinity for taking pictures of stars at night. The manual focus ring has no indicator one turns the ring one direction or the other to focus with no way of knowing where you really are.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Such an upgrade from the IS II I originally purchased the 18-55mm IS II from Canon (it came with a T4i bundle). That lens recently broke so I needed to find a replacement and after doing lots of research of lens in that range I decided to give the STM version a try. This lens is sooo much nicer than the IS II version. The glass is really nice and I could not believe how fast the autofocus works (both video and still). It is also truly silent so if you are using it for video you won't have that annoying sound showing up in your video. The build quality is still plastic-like materials with a little metal thrown in there but that is to be expected at this price range. This is the perfect walking around lens and the lack of weight is actually a plus in my eyes.I highly recommend this as a sub $ everyday lens, and if you have the money its well worth an upgrade from the original 18-55 kit lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small lens awesome Finally a kit lens worth have. If you do not need shots in low light, the new 18-55 STM can serve you very well. There are better lenses out there, but no zoom below $ 500 has better picture quality than this. The lens mount is still plastic, but the mechanism of focus and zoom are better and more durable. For video, the focus is nice and quiet fast without leaps. A natural choice for such cameras SL1 or T5i.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing little lens I don't own this lens but I just recently tried it out at @. It focuses faster than any of my L lenses & is absolutely silent! I couldn't hear a thing. The lens looks better than the standard 18-55 kit lens & has a better, much smoother focus ring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works on the Canon EOS Rebel T2i. I purchased this lens on April 16, 2013, for my Canon EOS Rebel T2i. You talk about razor sharp!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for video! I got this lens because of the STM feature. Tried it on my 70D and it works great outdoors. Nice sharpness and you can't hear the lens focusing - it's like magic. Not too good in low light however. But my L lens is not good in low light either and you can hear the focusing (a light buzzing sound). I give it 4 stars becuase the mount is made of plastic. I also ordered the 40mm STM and that one seems to be more solid with a good weight since the mount is made of metal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am surprised how Sharp this lens is! I didn't expect much from this lens, being so small and light plus very cheap! Used it around Central Park to take pictures on a beautiful sunny day. Boy was I surprised when I uploaded my pics to my MacBook! The colors are stunning too when you have your exposure right. Very very pleased .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light, easy to carry. Good on the go. I got this lens to use on my t4i as a walk around lens. It is light and easy to carry. Picture quality is good. Plus it's an STM. It will be going with me on our next trip to Disneyland so I do t have to carry heavy gear around but can still take awesome pictures.
