The ProChannel Pack from Cakewalk is a bundle of all four of the company's ProChannel Effect Modules, which also includes the VST version of the CA-2A Leveling Amplifier. The ProChannel modules are designed specifically for SONAR's ProChannel function.
PC4K S-Type Channel Compressor - Module for ProChannel (Download)
The PC4K S-Type Channel Compressor from Cakewalk is a plug-in module that adds vintage-era, console-style, channel compression to any ProChannel strip in SONAR. Highly transparent with gentle, soft-knee characteristics, the module is particularly well suited to compressing and leveling a variety of material such as bass, keys, and rhythm guitars.
Modeled after a built-in VCA-based channel strip compressor, the compressor can be pushed hard while still retaining transparency on a wide variety of sources. Flexible drag-and-drop routing and manual output gain control are modern additions to an old classic.
PC4K S-Type Expander/Gate - Module for ProChannel (Download)
The PC4K S-Type Expander/Gate from Cakewalk is a plug-in module that adds expansion and gate functionality to any ProChannel strip in SONAR. Based on the vintage-style channel expansion used on large format studio consoles, expansion can add dynamics back to overly compressed material. Add life to vocal tracks, put punch back into drums and drum loops, and much more.
The gate can be used to remove unwanted sounds between individual drum hits, for example, or any similar type situation. Another use of the gate is to lock certain tracks together, such as a bass guitar that should only sound with the kick drum. The bass guitar track accepts a sidechain input from the kick drum track and only sounds when the gate is opened. The bass sustain can then be further adjusted using a release control.
ProChannel Concrete Limiter - Module for ProChannel (Download)
The ProChannel Concrete Limiter from Cakewalk is a plug-in module that adds limiting functionality to any ProChannel strip in SONAR. Limiting has become synonymous in music circles with squashing audio, but in reality loudness processing still has to maintain punch, clarity, and dynamics while achieving the levels necessary for a sound or mix to stand out level wise.
Using look-ahead and oversampling techniques, smooth gain curves, and frequency dependent limiting, the software intelligently limit peaks without sounding "harsh" or "squashed." And since the process only introduces 1.5 ms of latency, it is equally suitable for use in mixing and recording of audio tracks and virtual synthesizers, as well as the final output of a mix.
Additionally, the plug-in features Bass Lift Technology designed to deal with problems associated with limiting low frequency content. With the bass being the first to be limited, bass heavy material such as drums and bass synthesizers can often have the life sucked out of them. A "Bass" switch deals with this in a musical way by processing low frequency material through a specialized circuit designed to gently soft-clip while limiting.
The CA-2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier from Cakewalk is a dynamics plug-in that models one of the most sought after hardware compressors, and features program-dependent release times and a flat frequency response of 30 Hz to 15 kHz (along with the R37 control for frequency response adjustment). The original hardware unit was mono, whereas the CA-2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier operates in both mono and stereo modes without a loss of stereo imaging.
The R37 control adjusts the gain reduction in relation to the frequency content. On the original hardware unit, the R37 control added gain reduction at frequencies above 1 kHz to reduce or prevent over-modulation caused by pre-emphasis. When set to the flat position, gain reduction is applied equally on all frequencies. When the control is moved toward the HF position, gain reduction is increased on the high frequencies. The plug-in is available in VST and Audio Units formats, as well as a ProChannel Module for the company's Sonar line of DAWs.
