Magewell 32060 Overview

Record or stream an HDMI signal via USB 3.0 with the Magewell USB Capture HDMI Gen 2. With its HDMI v1.4a input, this capture device will accept resolutions up to 1920 x 1200p60. If you need to stream or record at a certain resolution, the USB Capture HDMI will internally up- or down-covert the input signal to the set resolution. It can also perform frame rate conversion and deinterlacing in real time with its own hardware, taking the processing load off your computer's CPU.

Because the USB Capture HDMI uses the existing drivers on your computer, the capture device will work with any software that supports those drivers. If you don't have a USB 3.0 port available, the USB Capture HDMI will work with a USB 2.0 port, although the resolution and frame rate capabilities will be reduced due to the restricted bandwidth.

No drivers needed for Windows, Mac, or Linux
Automatically determines input video format and converts it to the specified output size and frame rate
Automatically converts input audio formats to 48 kHz PCM stereo audio
64MB of DDR2 onboard memory to control frame buffer and avoid interruption or dropped frames when USB bandwidth is occupied

Magewell 32060 Reviews

OK but not Wonderful

I have been using this product (Part Number 32060) for about 1.5 year. initially it was OK until recently. The captured videos were frozen or a kind of jetering (video showing very fast horizontal movement). I am kind of surprised by this problem because I did not use it very very frequently. Anyway, I bought the new version in the hope of that the problem will go away.

a miracle dongle

This dongle was the secret to connecting my Canon C70 to my iMac to allow livestreaming. B&H customer service recommended this to me (I had tried many other devices to include the Camlink, but none of them worked).

Canon C70 livestreaming now possible thanks to this Magewell

A BandH sales rep recommended this capture card to livestream using my new Canon C70. It works great! Just know that you have to use another AUDIO source than the Magewell setup. So: Simply plug in a USB mic and you're good to go. Or do what I do and attach a MixPre-3 to my computer and into it a high quality XLR mic like the Sennheiser MKH-50... and you're now sporting a better quality livestream than 99% of what's out there. Enjoy!

Very customizable through configuration tool

I like that they provide a configuration tool where you can configure the set of capture resolutions and video formats (YUV2 etc.) that it offers to the USB host. What I don't like is that it doesn't provide MJPEG support. I'm thinking that MJPEG would have helped with reducing the data rate on the USB bus. I also don't like that it uses a USB 3.0 Type A receptacle on the device side. This appears to be non-standard and requires some non-standard USB cable. They should have used a USB 3.0 Type B, a Micro USB 3.0 or a Type C receptacle.

Quit Working After a While

It worked fine for a while. I had it connected 24/7 continuous duty. After a while it quit working. Checked all cable connections to no avail. The device felt a little warm to the touch so I'm wondering if there is a thermal issue. The two blue LED's are lit but still no picture. I tried using a little webcam to test the connection and it worked OK. I'm reluctant to spend another $300+ for a replacement unit only to have it fail. I'm thinking of going with the more affordable elgato unit.

What are the minimum processor and graphics requirements for a laptop?
Asked by: Anthony
The only minimum requirements one needs to worry about when using this device are the operating system minimums, which in this case are Windows 7 or Later and macOS 10.9 or Later... Processor and graphics do not apply here as this is merely a capture device, thus only a video stream to data conduit.

Do you need separate USB root hubs like the Elgato Cam LInks do? You can only use one Elgato with one root hub, same with Magewell?
Asked by: Ronald
The advantage that this product has is that it handles some of processing of the signal, where as the Camlink does not. That being said, you still will need a powerful computer to handle two signals and it still may be a better practice to have those coming in on separate USB Buses. However, it is at least possible with this device because it does handle a lot of the processing internally.
