Convergent Design's Odyssey7Q+ is a monitor/recorder that provides all of the features and functionality of the Odyssey7Q but adds support for 4K recording over HDMI. It features a 7.7", 1280 x 800, OLED, touchscreen display with a 3400:1 contrast ratio, true blacks, and professional monitoring features such as waveform, histogram, vectorscope, anamorphic de-squeeze, and 3D LUT support. Out-of-the-box, the Odyssey7Q+ can record up to DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) and Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) in the compressed Apple ProRes 422 HQ format or up to 2K/1080p using the uncompressed DPX file format. The Titan Extract option, which allows you to create multiple HD windows from a single 4K source, is included. Additionally, it supports several RAW recording options for ARRI, Canon, Sony, and POV cameras, which are available for purchase or rental from Convergent Design's website.

question
I have some older material on Sony Digital Betacam tapes, and want to play those out from a Sony Digital Betacam VTR and digitize them onto hard drives. The VTR has the standard definition SDI (SD-SDI) output interface, so it will send out an uncompressed signal with the video + embedded audio. I wish to record that with this Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+ video recorder. In this workflow, I have the following questions:A. Will this recorder record such a signal via its 3G-SDI input interface, and if yes, will it automatically upconvert the standard definition footage to 720p or 1080i or 1080p? As I understand the 7Q+ will not record standard definition (NTSC) digital video, only 720p or higher resolution HD video, is this correct? So, if I feed it a standard definition digital signal via SDI from the Sony Digital Betacam video tape deck, will the 7Qx do the upconversion to 720p or 1080i/p internally on the fly, and in what quality?B. If the 7Q+ can be used to record the Sony Digital Betacam SD footage this way, can I use either the Pro Res HQ or the DPX option for the recording codec? What would be the recording bitrate if using uncompressed DPX and recording in 720p or 1080i or p resolution? I understand with Pro Res HQ, it will be 220Mbit/second in all case, is that correct? Thank you!
I do not own this.

question
1.can i record s-log with rx100v?2.can i record v-log with gh5 in 4096x2160??3.are they all 4:4:4?
This support Sony s-log so it should record the DSC-RX100 without issue. It can of course handle 4096x2160 but there is no v-log support. 4:4:4 is available only in 2K/1080P.

question
Im still a little unclear as to what this does out of the box with the fs700. Can I record 4k form the fs700 without purchasing firmware? What exactly can I expect from this product out the box? Thanks.
This is not true. The Odyssey 7Q+ will not record 4K anything out of the box. Only ProRes 422 HQ. You will need to purchase the license from Convergent Design directly for $800.

question
Can this be used with a Canon C100 or C300?
This is perfect for the C100 and C300. I use the 7Q+ with both C100 and C300. It remote triggers the recorder directly from the camera via SDI.

does odyssey7Q+ support Sony fx9?
does odyssey7Q+ support Sony fx9?
The Odyssey7Q+ has partial support for the Sony FX9.
Please set the Camera to Sony FS7 in the Odyssey7Q+ menu so that the camera trigger will work.
The HDMI input on the Odyssey7Q+ works in 4K/Ultra-HD up to 30 fps. If needing to use the FX9's HDMI output in 4K/Ultra-HD from 30 to 60 fps, you will need an external HDMI to HD-SDI Quad Link 3G converter which outputs in 2si (2 Serial Interleaved) mode. AJA makes these devices.
There may be other issues that we do not know of at this time.
Things may change as Sony releases new firmware versions.
Respectfully,
Dan Keaton
