The 2TB Aura Solid-State Drive and Envoy Upgrade Kit from OWC / Other World Computing is an upgrade kit for the Late 2013 Mac Pro that lets you increase the size of the internal SSD and use the old drive as an external unit. The kit includes a 2TB Aura SSD featuring the same PCIe 2.0 interface as the Mac Pro and four Sandforce SF2281 controllers with 7% over provisioning. The SSD offers up to 730 MB/s read and 698 MB/s write speed.

The kit also includes an envoy Pro SSD enclosure, allowing you to easily repurpose the factory-installed Mac Pro SSD as an aluminum USB 3.0 external drive for optimal portability. Data can be transferred to and from the enclosure quickly and efficiently with support for data transfer rates up to 500 MB/s over a micro-B USB 3.0 port. The enclosure has an rMBP design with an aluminum finish and comes with non-skid rubber feet. It also provides silent, fanless operation.

It is an SSD upgrade solution engineered specifically for the Mac Pro and has controller technologies, which deliver time-tested longevity and degradation free performance.

OWC / Other World Computing OWCSSDA13MP2.0K reviews

2TB Aura Solid-State Drive and Envoy Upgrade Kit (Late 2013 Mac Pro) is rated 1.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Product Just do not buy this. I have two of them. Both 'appear' as external drives under OS X which is not normal. The first is now 500GB instead of 2TB under El Capitan. The second one is still 2TB but Final Cut Pro does not start on El Capital so I had to go back to Yosemite. This is not a professional product. The only good think about OWC is the tech support. But for a product that does not really work... what would you need tech support. Moreover... they do false advertising as they should say that this product is an 'external' drive.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unfortunately I had a very bad experience that cost me a lot I was very happy to upgrade the internal SSD of my expensive Mac Pro. So I bought one of these. OWC provides a quick installation video on their website. It look appealing and easy. BUT Mac Pros are very sensitive computers. Everything inside this machine is calibrated with precise tools. For example, you need a special torx tool with a VERY PRECISE PRESSURE applied on both screws involve in the installation. I went to see the video on OWC's website and nowhere do they state that those security screws need to be torqued to a certain amount of pressure. What happened? The worst! The video card and the motherboard burned. Sounds crazy. - I lost my main computer for 3 weeks - I had to buy back an Apple genuine SSD for warranty - Neither Apple nor OWC will cover the repair. Beware! You are warned.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not convinced about the product everything worked, no missing parts. as others reported seen as external drive and slow boot. no heat problems. not convinced about the product. the intention was to have a faster photo processing with the internal extra storage for larger projects

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I would not buy this product again! I never write reviews but after the experience with this product and finally receiving a replacement, which is still giving me boot-up problems. I cannot recommend this product. The customer support was haphazard and inconsistent from the outset had to consistently write them to send troubling shoot status updates. When, after several weeks, they finally sent the replacement, it didn't have the a usb cable enclosed for the drive housing you need to put your old sad drive in nor did it have the screwdriver to install the sad drive as it did with the original shipping packaging and actual installation instructions. Luckily, I remembered the steps from the original install I performed. See following details: Product installation wasn't as simple as removing the original mac sad drive and replacing it with the upgrade. Seating the drive where the original was is simple. However, there's an extra step involved because a 3 inch grounding wire is attached to top of the OWC drive that also has to be attached to the motherboard screws located in right uppermost corner. OWC does provide a special screw driver to remove the two screws and secure the grounding wire in place. Care and caution needs to be exerted at this juncture so as not to strip or lose the screws. The drive worked for about a week or so until I noticed that my Mac Pro began to overheat to a degree that simply unplugging the computer and waiting to for things to cool didn't work. The entire Mac Pro was extremely hot and when it finally cooled down after nearly an hour or so.This had never happened before. I left the Mac Pro off for several days and when I rebooted a drive icon with a ? appeared and never went away with each subsequent reboot. Before taking this to Apple repair, I decided to determine if the problem was in the MacPro machine itself or simply in the upgraded sad drive, so I replaced the OWC ssd drive with the original one. It has been working flawlessly as it had been previously. The hard metal case OWC provided to put your original mac sad drive worked as advertised without issues. A solution that ensured that you don't lose the value off your original Mac Pro sad drive. However, OWC customer support is not stellar any means and also cumbersome. Long story short: replacement indicated offer indicated in a customer support email, which instructed me to call their 800#. However, after contacting technical support, I was informed that an immediate replacement would not be offered as indicated but that it would be, instead, based upon their ability to reproduce the problem in one of their own machines. How long would this take? No idea. Would they leave my drive in their mac pro for a week or two like mine. No clue. Fair process? You be the judge.
