The DJI Phantom 2 v2.0 Pre-Assembled Bundle with FPV Monitor, BT Datalink, HERO4 Black, & Hard Case is put together by B&H to provide the essentials for recording aerial video with the ability to monitor from the ground. This bundle comes ready-to-fly, meaning the gimbal, video transmitter, Bluetooth Datalink receiver, and iOSD module are installed and tested by B&H technicians, and that no major assembly is required. It is still important, however, to calibrate the GPS and flight control system before each flight to ensure proper flying.
At the center of the bundle is the Phantom 2 Quadcopter v2.0, a four-rotor remote control helicopter designed to act as an aerial platform for a GoPro HERO action camera. Improvements for v2.0 include more efficient motors, ESCs, and propellers, a new transmitter (radio controller) with gimbal control dial and built-in battery, and an improved compass that is less susceptible to interference. Other features include self-tightening propellers and a slot-in battery with LED indicators visible during flight.
The GoPro HERO4 Black is included so you can actually capture aerial footage whether for recording, as an "eye-in-the-sky" to get the FPV (first person view) experience, or both. The Black edition features 4K video capture at up to 30 fps, 2.7K capture at up to 50 fps, 120 fps in Full HD 1080p, and can also take up to 12MP still photos. Internally, it records video and photos to a microSD memory card up to 64GB in capacity – a 32GB card included as part of the bundle. Although the HERO4 has built-in Wi-Fi, it is very important this feature is turned OFF while it is mounted on the Phantom 2. Otherwise the Wi-Fi can potentially interfere with the quadcopter's internal receiver causing the controls to become unresponsive.
To mount the GoPro, the Zenmuse H4-3D gimbal is included. Updated from the previous H3-3D model, it has been optimally balanced for use with the GoPro HERO4. Not only will it keep your aerial video's horizon level and isolated from vibration, the gimbal can also be used to remotely operate there camera, allowing you to adjust the camera angle with in-flight.
To provide a first-person view (FPV) experience or for in-flight monitoring during video recording, the AVL58 5.8 GHz Video Link Kit and a 7" LCD field monitor with built-in 5.8 GHz receiver are included. The monitor can receive signals at distances up to 1300' line-of-sight – depending on conditions. Unlike other monitors which use digital processing, the screen on this monitor won't go blue or black when the signal gets weak. Instead you will see "snow" (static) rather than a complete loss. Plus, unlike digital monitors there will not be the same lag as the signal re-syncs after a dropped signal returns. A battery and compact wall charger are included to power the monitor. A set of cloverleaf antennas are included for the transmitter and receiver to provide enhanced reception.
The 2.4G Bluetooth Datalink relays data required to use the DJI Ground Station system. With this system it is possible to have the quadcopter fly along a predetermined path by setting waypoints in an iPad app or Windows software. You are not committed to the autopilot course, however. Changes can be made on the fly using the app, and it is even possible to fly manually using a virtual control pad. To help plan your course you can overlay the waypoint map above a to-scale satellite photo of the site you plan to fly over.
The included iOSD module takes heading, altitude, GPS coordinate, horizontal and vertical speed, and other data from the Phantom 2's flight computer and superimposes it over the image sent back to the video receiver at the ground end. Not only will be you be able to see what your GoPro sees, but also know exactly how the Phantom 2 is flying.
Finally, a hard case with custom-cut foam interior is included to help you transport and safely store the quadcopter and accessories.
Note: This kit is pre-modified by B&H specialists before shipping to ensure proper and synchronized operation. These alterations may include, but are not limited to, soldering, resoldering, updating software, and more. Also note, some of the accessories in this bundle may include parts not required for this particular installation. These parts have been left in the box as they could be useful if you ever decide to re-purpose any of the hardware in future applications.
Warning: Never use the DJI Phantom 2 Quadcopter with your GoPro camera when both devices have their Wi-Fi systems turned on. The DJI Phantom 2's radio controller and the GoPro HERO4's Wi-Fi run on the same frequency, so if you use them together when both Wi-Fi systems are engaged, the DJI Phantom's transmitter will lose the ability to communicate with the DJI Phantom Quadcopter. Whenever this happens, you will not be able to tell the Phantom where to fly. This may result in loss of property or damage to your equipment.
