Panasonic DMC-TS6 Overview

  • 1Description

The red Lumix DMC-TS6 Digital Camera from Panasonic is a compact waterproof "tough" camera with a 16MP High Sensitivity MOS sensor for capturing still images and Full HD 1080p video. Its 4.6x Leica DC zoom lens has a 35mm equivalent of 28-128mm, providing wide to telephoto focal lengths. Power OIS reduces the appearance of camera shake when shooting at telephoto lengths, or when shooting with longer shutter speeds.

A 3.0" TFT LCD screen with 460k-dot resolution provides composition and playback viewing of you images or videos. You can shoot Full HD 1080p video in AVCHD Progressive and MP4 formats at 60p and 50p. The TS6 has built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, and when paired with the Panasonic Image App you can control some camera functions from a smart device. The camera also has built-in GPS functionality that allows for geo-tagging of your images. It is waterproof to 43' and shockproof to 6.6'.

16.1MP MOS Sensor
The advanced 16.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor delivers high-speed signal output and high-sensitivity image recording, including images up to ISO 3200 in full resolution.
LEICA DC Lens with Folded Optics Technology
The 4.6x optical zoom lens provides 35mm focal length equivalents of 28-128mm which ranges from wide-angle to telephoto to incorporate most shooting situations. The lens features folded optics construction and anti-fog glass.
3.0" LCD Display
The 3.0" screen has a near-100% field of view and incorporates the Lumix Intelligent LCD function which automatically adjusts brightness levels in 11 steps to match the ambient light conditions.
Underwater Shots
Advanced Underwater Mode compensates for the red tones easily lost in underwater shooting to create more natural underwater images. Additional action modes include Sports, Snow, Beach, and Snorkeling.
Manual Exposure
Manual exposure allows you to set the aperture to control the depth of field, and adjust the shutter speed to freeze moving subjects or create a motion blur that exaggerates the feeling of movement.
Quad Indicator
Specially designed for active outdoor use, this camera has GPS, a compass, altimeter, and a barometer to show and record altitude, barometric pressure, and orientation data. The barometer also indicates underwater depth.
GPS
The camera's GPS (Global Positioning System) complies with GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) to enhance detection accuracy with an increased array of satellites.
Creative Control / Creative Retouch
Creative Control in recording mode and Creative Retouch in playback mode give you the power to turn ordinary situations into highly expressive images. Creative Effects include: Expressive, Retro, High Key, Low Key, Sepia, Dynamic Monochrome, Impressive Art, High Dynamic, Cross Process, Toy Effect, Miniature Effect, Soft Focus, Star Filter, and One Point Color.
Creative Panorama
With the Creative Panorama function, you can shoot and overlay consecutive horizontal / vertical images, and add filter effects with Creative Controls.
Time Lapse Shooting
Leave the camera to record of stationary observation for subjects such as flowers coming into bloom or scudding cloud. The series of consequent images can be combined in a camera to produce a timelapse video.
Torch Light
A built-in torch light helps record videos in dark underwater environments or in other low-light situations. The light can also function when not shooting to act as a flashlight.

    Panasonic DMC-TS6 Reviews

Lumix DMC-TS6 Digital Camera (Red) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile and easy to use This was bought days before a white-water rafting trip on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. There wasn't much time to read the manual before the trip, but all important functions were intuitive and simple to figure out. Still images (including HDR), movies, panoramas, all were easy to grab under conditions that were less than ideal (very cold water, constant splashing). Battery life was good for its small size, which is of course typical for a point-and-shoot ... turning on and off, I got two days' use before swapping the battery. The controls and buttons are small but manageable provided you don't have bulky gloves on. Shutter release button is large enough even if you do. The only shortcoming? After one week, the back screen (on which you compose the image and play back) was badly scratched. Since it's clearly intended for rough use, and in other respects it takes a beating and works, why can't Panasonic put a scratch-resistant quartz face on the screen, similar to the quartz crystal on a watch? Since they haven't, I recommend buying an adhesive clear screen cover that can be replaced when it's scratched up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice; but....... Haven't really had to use the rugged parts of the TS6.The pictures and video are really great in all tests I have put it through. Night use without flash is not bad and using burst mode with a very steady hand or support is excellent. Panorama shots are so much better than older models and it is so easy to take perfect panorama shots. The only downside to the camera may be the difficulty using wi-fi. It took me many tries to get the camera hooked up to my Samsung Android phone. I'm not sure it's worth the frustration as I rarely would use it.The camera has so many other options and it's nice to see scrolling screen telling you how each option works.All-in-all a really cool camera at a great price point. Also note that for us Canucks, B & H offers free shipping for items costing more than $. Gotta love that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible directions I have not yet used the camera underwater, the reason I bought it. The short directions are extremely poor. When I turn the camera on, I keep getting the information about underwater over and over, and can't get rid of it. There is a CD, but it is only for Windows (I have a MAC). There is no manual on line yet. When I called for technical support, it was either her first day on the job and/or the training was poor. Based on this experience, I would not buy a Panasonic again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible directions The directions in the short information provided by Panasonic are quite confusing. It seems to be impossible to get rid of the underwater information which appears on the screen each time you turn on the camera. Formatting?? No information. There is CD Manual BUT ONLY FOR WINDOWS. I am a Mac user. When I called technical support, she clearly was new or ill trained--each question I asked resulted in her putting me on hold while she looked into it. I asked if there were a manual that I could download; she didn't know and spent considerable time determining that there wasn't and that there isn't a CD for Mac users (NOT USER FRIENDLY). I brought up the issue of having the underwater information popup each time I turned the camera on, and she could not address this issue.I haven't yet used the camera (which I bought because the B and H representative said it was the best for underwater) and only hope that its performance is better than its directions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2 of them Excellent camera for fishing, kayaking, cycling and hiking. Takes abuse and gives great results. Take very good hi-def movies too. Great lense and many useful setting. I have been through a dozen Canon and Nikons of similar function with this Panasonic being absolutely the best. I have 2 now as well as Gopros and pro cine gear. These are cheap, durable and have high function.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A simple camera for traveling I use this camera mostly for snorkeling and shallow scuba diving. I also have the Panasonic waterproof case for deeper dives. It's a tough camera that has been great for throwing in a backpack when I'm going diving or snowboarding. It's not as fast as other cameras I have owned, but it's a good camera for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like it I carry this around when I'm out on the trail. It's a great size and seems very rugged. The pictures are excellent. The wi-fi features aren't easy to use. Some may find the zoom lens too limiting, but there are no plastic pieces sticking out that can get broken.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little point and shoot Bought this to take on lake and river trips. Very fun and easy to use. With a little creative editing you can actually turn out some decent underwater photos. Slight lag but not bad.

    question

What is the camera's operational temperature?
    Asked by: Anonymous
The instruction manual indicates the camera may be used between 0C and 40C (32F and 104F). The performance of the battery (number of record-able pictures/operating time) may decrease temporarily when using in a temperature between -10C and 0C (14F and 32F) (cold places such as ski resorts or places at high altitude). The battery cannot be recharged in a temperature less than 0C (32F). (The CHARGE indicator blinks when the battery cannot be recharged.)

    question

What is the minimal interval for the time lapse mode?
    Asked by: Joseph T.
According to Panasonic, the capture rate is configured by the user. For example the user can capture 1 frame every 15 seconds, or perhaps every one minute.

Is there a lens cover that slides closed when the camera is turned off?
    Asked by: Fen S.
No there's no such a cover or a lens hood. The lens is exposed but is made from a good quality glass. I own this item for more than a year and the glass is without scratches.
