Designed to balance the overall exposure within a high-contrast scene, the 85 x 110mm Hard Edge Graduated Neutral Density 0.6 Filter from Formatt-Hitech is ideal for situations involving both bright and dark areas, such as an open sky and shadowed foreground. Half of the filter has 0.6 neutral density and the other half is clear, with a hard-edged transition between the two that is ideally suited for use with long focal length lenses or when there is a defined, uninterrupted horizon, such as a seascape. By reducing the exposure in selective areas, you are able to balance the overall exposure of the scene in order to gain detail in both bright and dark areas.

This filter is constructed from lightweight, durable optical resin, which is also designed to maintain image clarity and not affect the overall color balance of the scene. It measures 3.3 x 4.3" / 85 x 110 mm, is 1.5mm thick, and is suitable for use in 85mm filter holders.

85 x 110mm Hard Edge Graduated Neutral Density 0.6 Filter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Light Modifier I used this and a 0.9 Hard Edge ND filter with the Hitech holder for a photography workshop at Yosemite National Park. It was recommended by the workshop facilitator. Align it at the horizon or any angle to tone down intense highlights and it magically adjusts your exposure for professional looking compositions. Very dramatic during early sunrise and late sunsets. Looks so much more natural and realistic than using HDR. I also have the graduated ND filters that came with the starter kit but found the these hard edge ones even more useful in many compositions. I will definitely bring your photography up to the next level.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value I wasn't sure how much my style of shooting would be able to take advantage of graduated ND filters. So, after some research, I settled on the Hitech filters as a balance between quality and price. Really I gave it 4 stars for the position of the etching on the filter. I have to admit that the etching did not cause a problem when I used it with a 18-55mm lens. However, it may cause a problem for wider lenses or for those cases where you're positioning the filter with most of the clear side over the lens. The case it comes packaged in is sufficient, but I would seriously recommend a proper filter wallet if you're going to use this type of filter often as moving it in and out of the original sleeve is a inconvenience. While Hitech's filters are 1mm wider than the Cokin P size, they work perfectly in all 3 slots of my Cokin P holder. Over time, using this filter in the slot closest to the lens may widen the 3rd slot so much that narrower filters would be loose. However, I would expect that by the time that happens, I would've gotten so much use out of the holder that I'd just buy another. I can't detect any flexing of the filter induced by the holder being 1mm smaller.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Neutral & Affordable I find the 2-stop soft ND and hard edge ND to be the most versatile. The HiTech ND Grads are very neutral, only occasionally showing a light magenta tint (much better than cheaper competition. They're fairly durable, but after hand-holding these filters against my lenses for a couple years they got too scratched to keep using. But they're cheap enough that I'm not bothered replacing them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good and very cheap This is as good as other more expensive filters. Its dark area is perfectly neutral and doesn't create weird hues in the final photo. The only minor problem of it is that it should be a bit longer so it could be used as a solid ND at the same time (you could do that with 68mm-threaded lenses, but the usual 77mm wide-angle lenses are too wide to be covered completely).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Filter Works like it should. A cheap alternative to the over priced Singh-Ray filters. I see no color shift. Completely neutral!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A necessary filter to have. A split neutral density filter helps balance the light between the sky and below. It brings out clouds and makes the sky look deeper in color but yet it does not change the color. The 85mm graduated ND for cokin P is great because with the cokin holder you only need one filter instead of one for each lens. Its easy to use and change between lenses. Its a good value for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My landscapes never looked better I am new to using grad ND filters but I found this to be just fine. The price was right. It arrived on time for my trip to Rocky Mountain National park. Easy to use. It does not come with a case or any kind of hard shell protection so be careful. I have heard these scratch easily but I had no problems.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from More information In the case of nd filters cokin, when I clicked for a larger picture, You gave me a picture of the box it comes in. I still have no idea what the filter looks like. I would like to see through the filter against a white surface to see how hard edged or gradual it is. Expertise: Pro outdoor photographer
