Rokinon 135mm T2.2 Cine DS Overview

Utilizing a multi-layer coating process for consistent color rendition from lens to lens the Rokinon 135mm T2.2 Cine DS Lens answers the challenge of assembling a set of lenses over time. The lens comes in Sony E-Mount and it features industry standard geared focus and iris rings that share common position with other Rokinon Cine DS lenses. To aid focus pullers who have to work both sides of the lens, the aperture and focus scales are marked on both sides of the lens.

This 135mm lens produces an 18.8° angle-of-view when used with a full-frame sensor camera or a 35mm SLR. Hybrid aspherical lenses render sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations, with a minimum focus distance of 2.6' from the lens. A removable lens hood provides flare protection when shooting without a matte box and the lens's threaded front accepts 77mm filter rings.

Ultra Multi Coated lenses minimize flare and ghosting, and the lenses are color matched to a standard eliminating the need to acquire an entire set of lenses at the same time.
Industry-standard gearing for focus and aperture rings. Each lens in the Rokinon DS series share common focus and iris gear ring positions, which speeds up lens changes as accessories such as follow focus units or iris motors don't have to be re-positioned.
"Declicked" aperture ring for smooth iris pulls.
A removable lens hood provides flare protection without a matte box.
The lens opens up to T2.2, providing the capability for low light shooting or creating extremely shallow depth of field.

Rokinon 135mm T2.2 Cine DS Reviews

Incredibly Clear and Useful

Of all the Rokinon's I own this one is exceptional - I have the 12, 20, 50, & 85. This has a clarity that is remarkable. I can crop into this on stills quite far and the detail held and tonal range held is impressive. I am aiming at Blog shots for educational purposes - so it is quite a useful tool for the purpose - If you are using these Cine lenses for shooting stills they will be sharpest if you focus it at about T2.5 / T2.8 then quickly stop down more if you want - and shoot. It also has enough weight it is stable on a moving float at the dock using the camera stability on the Lumix G95 - That is true even in significant 25 to 30kts of wind. Very happy with it, and with B&H service since 1981.

Good 135mm

The positives. Lightweight for the huge aperture Smooth focusing allows very precise control Solid structure seems nearly unbreakable Negatives. Limited focal length!!!! Limited focal length!!! Limited focal length!! Manual focus! This lens outperformed my expectations on my Sony a9 as a sports lens. I shoot college football games. The colors were clean, the images were sharp and with the focus assist, I had surprisingly accurate autofocus. I would prefer auto focus, but it would cost more and wouldn't necessarily be more accurate/faster in low light. Because of the focal length, this lens gets really limited on usefulness when it comes to shooting weddings.

For a fast, manual focus long lens, this produces very good quality for the demands of nighttime photography. The price, for the quality is excellent!

great for macro work

i haven't had the chance to try any video work with this lens. however it does a great job for macro work. Not sure if its user error or not but images tend to be a littler softer once on paper than when on the computer.

Absolutely worth the cost.

The Best of the Rokinon Cine DS Lenses

It is almost as sharp wide open edge to edge as it is at T5.6. Lens is good for shooting 8k full frame on my Canon 5Dsr from T2.2 to T11 and is outstanding at T5.6 and 8. Significant vignette on full frame (24x36mm) sensors wide open improves tremendously when stopping down to T2.8. On my GH5 vignette isn't a problem at any aperture due to the MFT crop factor.

Very sharp and easy to focus

Bought this thinking I'd have to shoot at 2.8, but it's very sharp wide open. Worth every penny.

Rokinon 135 Cine DS = AWESOME!

I've used many quality lens in many situations.. and I can safely say this lens stacks up well against anything out there, in fact, I prefer this lens over some that cost 10x as much at times. Super sharp imagery and a look that is true cinema are attributes that make this lens great... not to mention that it's affordable to own - so I went out and bought a set of 6!

question

Will my canon 2x extender fit on this lens?
Asked by: Michael C.
Generally speaking, Canon 2x extenders are for Canon L lenses 135mm and over. Other combinations are not supported or recommended. That being said, you could try the combination and see if it fits. (Be careful the protruding glass element of the extender does not touch the rear glass element of the lens itself particularly with the lens is focused at infinity. It is unlikely a problem but caution is a good thing.) Look for loss of image quality in the form of poorer focus and chromatic aberration.

Is this lens compatible with the Z-CAM E2?
Asked by: IAN
I think you can use it with the Z-CAM E2 with a Nikon to MFT adapter. This will save a few dollars as the Nikon version is a bit less expensive. I assume the crop factor will function in similar fashion regardless of lens version. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=nikon to mft adapter
