Rokinon 135mm f/2.0 overview

  • 1Description

The 135mm f/2.0 ED UMC Lens for Nikon F Mount with AE Chip from Rokinon is a manual focus telephoto prime lens useful for portraiture and all medium telephoto applications. Its fast f/2.0 maximum aperture is effective in low light and enables shallow depth of field control. With a rounded 9-blade diaphragm, shallow depth of field imaging will be rendered with pleasing out-of-focus highlights. Compatible with both FX and DX format DSLRs, it provides the 35mm focal length equivalence of 202.5mm when used on DX cameras. Its minimum focus distance is 2.6'.

The Nikon F-mount version of this lens features an AE chip that provides auto exposure metering in Auto, Program, Aperture-Priority, Shutter Priority, and Manual modes as well as a focus confirmation in the camera's viewfinder when focus has been reached manually.

The optical design includes one extra-low dispersion lens element to control chromatic aberration, contributing to sharp, color-accurate imaging, and each of its lens elements features Ultra Multi-Coating to improve light transmission and reduce ghosting and flare. An internal focus system prevents the front end from rotating which allows more effective use of variable filters.

A durable metal barrel with a wide focus ring and manual aperture control ring offer tactile control over focus and exposure. An included, removable lens hood deters stray light from entering the lens, while protecting it from accidental impact and precipitation.

    Rokinon 135mm f/2.0 reviews

135mm f/2.0 Lens for Nikon F Mount with AE Chip is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent 135mm, amazing! I will save you the pictures and such and state that this lens does represent its reviews around the net very well. Sharp, well made and a very comfortable 190 degree focus ring. For its price, it just might be the best lens at price per construction of all lenses. I will say though, check your centering on arrival, some have had apparent bad luck with centering problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp lens indeed This is the sharpest lens I've ever used. Works beautifully with my D800E & D500. Very nice lens Rokinon!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic lens I had high expectations after I read the very positive reviews of this lens (Rokinon / Samyang) by a few publications and users. I was even more impressed when I tested and used the lens myself. It is extremely sharp, even at F2.0, and there is no noticeable chromatic aberration. The optical quality is better than I expected. The bokeh is soft and creamy, especially with wide apertures. Manual focusing was smooth and easy to handle. The focus confirmation in the viewfinder is accurate. I tested the focus using focus confirmation and also by just looking at the image. Both methods worked well. Mechanically, the lens feels solid. For my tests and follow up shoots I used the lens on full frame and DX-format cameras.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great I prefer the Rokinon 135 over my Zeiss Milvus 85mm. Easier to focus, sharpness and bokeh are equal if not better with the longer Rok. Will the Rok hold up for the long haul? Probably not, but I can buy 4 of them for the price of the Milvus 135.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Skip This Lens I was excited waiting for this lens. What a disappointment. The lens hood was tight going on but rattled. It didn't seem as if it was in danger of falling off. I could live with this annoyance but... The focus aid didn't consistently produce sharp images even with very fast shutter speeds. Over all the images looked dull. I put another lens on the D810 and shot the same scenes; what a difference. Can't imagine why some gave it glowing reviews. Sorry Rokinon, not for me. You get what you pay for...and sometimes not even that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Lens For Price-Point I use a Nikon D4 and Nikon D800E at the moment. During testing, this lens seems to work as-advertised. (I've owned this lens for 7/8 months at the time of this Review) Communicating of Focus Confirmation seems a tad finicky, but that isn't necessarily the lens. When I use it more over the winter, I'll grow into it more and the aforementioned will be less of a problem. It's very bright, very sharp, and colours are very true. It doesn't handle shadow-areas well, from what I've experienced; shadowy areas seem to break-up a little. But again, that could be the specific conditions during the sessions I'm mentally referencing. It costs less than half what the Nikon 135mm f/2 DC costs (a lens I've owned and use as a point of reference), and the colours are better than the old Nikon thanks to newer tech in this lens. It feels solid, sturdy, and focuses smoothly. I can't yet comment on how it ages, but based on cost and production level it's fair to assume that the lens should be cared for well and used gently in order to have it working well for many years. I do recommend this lens. The attached images were made during a test shoot I did with it this April. (2017)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely like this glass! I bought this lens for Astro photography and I am still waiting for a good cloudless night, however I can say several positive things: The lens feels solid; not like a plastic kit lens. It is very bright and sharp, even wide open. At f2 it can be tricky to focus on the right spot, but the adjustment is smooth and long. I expect it to be a great astro lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sharp, nice color rendition in low light. Price was right. Delivery prompt. Photos are crisp, works well in low light. Only draw back is that it is manual focus so at times hard to establish in low light. But this lens saves $1000 over auto focus, so the trade off is to be expected. Perfect in situations where there is time to establish focus.
