I have a Pentax K-1ii and when I mount the Samyang 135mm, the F-stop display on the view screen just flashes repeatedly; it shows "F --". I have changed the F-stop on the lens to try different settings, but the F on the display still flashes repeatedly. Is there a setting I need to change somewhere?
Asked by: Teresa
I figured it out. I had to enable the aperture ring setting on the Pentax. Then on the lens, I pushed in a little silver button on the F-stop ring and turned the ring so it was one mark past f22. Now the camera controls the aperture.

Yes, you can use a 1.4x converter and you will get very favorable results, keep in my mind you will have a light loss of 1-1.5 stops.

Asked by: Guillermo
Since this lens is manual focus lens technically the focus will not change as long as you don't rotate the focus ring, but there is no locking mechanism to hold the ring in place.

Will camera assisted manual focus work using this lens?
Asked by: Brandy
From the B&H product web page: The AE chip built-into this model enables focus confirmation as well as the use of Auto/P/A/S/M shooting modes due to the transmission of lens data to the camera. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1110693-REG/samyang_sy135m_n_135mm_f_2_lens_for.html

question

Because this is a manual lens, will my DSLR be able to determine the correct exposure values when taking a shot?
Asked by: Anonymous
B&H staff answer correct but incomplete. A DSLR wil be able to correctly determine exposure IF you set the camera mode to Shutter priority or Manual. In Shutter priority the DSLR will automatically set the shutter speed for exposure. For any non-electronic lens you may need to set the camera's menu to shoot without lens attached because the camera will not know when a non-electronic lens is attached. You may also want the menu sent to show exposure effect if using the LCD display because then the LCD will show what the exposure will look like (too light, just right, or too dark). An equally important question is how to focus a non-electronic lens on a DSLR. The Canon bodies I am familiar with can display a focus point that is in focus through the viewfinder if the camera menu is set to do this. This greatly improves the ability to focus using the viewfinder. Alternatively, you can use Live View plus the 5x or 10x magnification of Live View to focus using the LCD display. Good mirrorless cameras can effectively do the same thing as in Live View because a mirrorless camera's viewfinder is an LCD display. This display can similarly be magnified, often just with a button push if the camera has custom programmable buttons. For example, you can program a Sony a7r Mk II's C3 button (which magnifies an already captured image you are reviewing) to also magnify a small area in the viewfinder that you want to focus on. This is a very logical and convenient customization for using non-electronic lenses on a mirrorless camera.

Yes this lens is identical to the Rokinon 135mm. Rokinon would be the parent company while Samyang is the secondary distributor.

my Nikon D5600 only lets me shoot at f22 with this lens is there a setting so i can use all aperture ?
Asked by: Fran
One of the options in the aperture ring is a red auto setting. You would need to set the aperture to that auto setting and then change the aperture via the camera.
