The G800SEDigital Camera from Ricoh is a fully functional compact point-and-shoot digital camera that offers additional features, such as a waterproof build, RSA encryption, bar code reading, write-once memory card compatibility, password protection and versatile battery support, which position this camera as an effective tool for those working in the medical, construction, surveying and law enforcement fields.
The G800SE has a 1/2.3" CMOS sensor, used to capture 16MP images and 1080 HD videos. The 5x optical zoom lens provides the 35mm equivalent of a 28-140mm focal length, while it also accepts 37mm filters for added protection and creative opportunities. Macro mode enables focus as close as 0.4" at the wide-angle end. It is capable of effective low light capture with ISO sensitivities from 100 to 25600, as well as supporting a built-in flash and hot shoe mount for an external flash. It also features blur reduction technology for sharper imaging at long focal lengths and in dim light.
For composition, review and menu navigation, the G800SE has a rear 3.0" 920k-dot Transmissive LCD. It supports SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards as well as Eye-Fi and SD WORM and Toshiba Write Once cards that "lock" information onto a card making it unable to be edited or rewritten afterward. Approximately 6.5GB of internal memory is available to save "camera memos" and to operate without a card or when yours is full.
The camera was designed to work in harsh environments. It is rated waterproof to a depth of 16' for a duration of 2 hours, shockproof up to a drop of 6.0' and coldproof down to 14°F. It is also dust and sand resistant and resistant and can be operated with gloves on thanks to the simple and well-designed layout of its buttons. Additional tough-minded features include resistance to industrial strength disinfectants, such as sodium hypochlorite and ethanol, or the option of washing it in water whenever it gets dirty. Conveniently, it can operate using AAA alkaline batteries in addition to the supplied rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
The G800SE provides both Bluetooth Ver. 2.1 +EDR and Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to wirelessly send your images to a computer or smartphone. Remote camera control and remote image browsing are supported via smart devices and GPS location data can be embedded into pictures from your smartphone. Also, several cameras can be managed and simultaneously updated through in-house networks reducing administrative work. The camera also reads and links linear and matrix barcodes and is compatible with the optional GP-1 GPS Unit and the BR-1 Laser Barcode Scanner for fast and comprehensive barcode reading.

The high-resolution 3.0" 920k dot picture display offers both high contrast and a wide viewing angle for effective outdoor viewing. Keeping the DISP button pressed for a few seconds selects maximum brightness, helping you deal with quick changes in ambient lighting.
Electronic Vibration Reduction
The G800SE utilizes an electronic vibration correction function that takes two exposures at high speed with the differences being calculated. It is a powerful tool when shooting in low light and when shooting telephoto.
Three Continuous Shooting Modes
Choose from 3 burst modes for subjects that are in motion or to photograph moments that pass too quickly to be seen by the naked eye. Continuous Mode shoots while the shutter button pressed. Stream Continuous (S-Cont) Mode shoots up to 16 or 25 frames over the space of about 2 seconds, starting when the shutter release button is pressed all the way down, and records the shots in a single image. Memory-Reversal Continuous (M-Cont) Mode shoots while the shutter release button is pressed, but records only the last 2 seconds (16 or 25 frames). The frames are recorded as a single image.
Built-in Flash and Hot Shoe Mount
With a flash range of 33' (wide angle) to 20' (maximum zoom), the built-in flash ensures that you can photograph indoors and in tunnels, corridors, and other dark locations with confidence.
Third-party flash units provide lighting options to the JIS B7101-compliant accessory shoe.
Use a unit that supports slave and pre-flash functions. Units without spring mechanisms or safety locks or that require pre-flash support for flash control can not be used. Sync terminals are not supported.
Hard to identify can be clearly labeled with written descriptions in the form of camera memos saved simultaneously with the picture and consisting of up to 20 items, each with descriptions of up to 128 characters. Up to 99 different memos can be added to camera memo lists--which can be stored in the cameras internal memory--and selected as desired. In camera memo Mode 3 you can limit your choice of descriptions according to the item selected.
The ADJ. button provides quick access to camera settings, including exposure compensation and ISO sensitivity. The ADJ. button also functions as a camera memo button when camera memo settings are enabled.
Memory Cards and Internal Memory
The G800SE supports SD, SDHC, SDXC card up to 256GB. Also SD WORM and Toshiba Write Once cards are compatible and since deletes, changes, and card initialization cannot be done, these cards can be used in place of film for original documents when recording police, fire department, and defense-related scenes where data reliability might be questioned. When stored under suitable conditions, the data can be preserved for about 100 years.
Up to 6.5GB of effective internal memory is available for storing memos as well as for general image storage.
Li-Ion and AAA Batteries
The supplied Li-ion rechargeable battery can be used for about 400 shots without recharging. A sync mode that turns the monitor off when it is not in use further reduces the drain on the battery. In place of the supplied high-capacity rechargeable battery, the RICOH G800SE can also be used with widely-available AAA alkaline batteries, which have enough power for about 40 shots.
Third-party 37mm diameter filters can be used to protect the lens from scratches and condensation. Use polarizing filters to reduce reflections.
Large switches and a simplified control layout enable ease of use when wearing gloves.
IPX8 Water Resistance
With Class 8 JIS/IEC water resistance, the RICOH G800SE can take photographs for 2 hours at depths of 16.4'. Use it on wet worksites or in the rain; just rinse the dirt off afterwards.
Although light and compact, the RICOH G800SE features a tempered front lens element and protection at key points, tough enough to withstand the Pentagon MIL Standard 810F 6.0' drop test on all 26 surfaces (6 sides, 8 corners, and 12 edges) even when on.
Dust and Cold Resistance
Class 6 JIS/IEC dust resistance guards against infiltration by dust and sand. The G800SE can also shoot in cold environments, able to handle temperatures down to 14°F.
Sodium hypochlorite, ethanol or liquid chlorine dioxide can be used in addition to water wash to keep the camera cleaned and ready for use under any conditions. The camera can be safely used in medical facilities and food production facilities.
Bluetooth & Wireless LAN
The camera features built-in Bluetooth version 2.1+EDR and IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless LAN, features that can be used for high-speed Wi-Fi connections not only to computers but also to smartphones and other devices. The camera even supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) for easy wireless setup.
Wi-Fi connection also enables remote camera control, remote image browsing, embedding GPS data from a smartphone and synchronizing the camera clock with your smartphone's clock. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi can be used in combination: for example, the former can be used to receive location data from an external GPS device while the latter is being is used to upload photographs.
The RICOH G800SE supports IEEE 802.1x Wi-Fi authentication, a highly secure method that uses credentials supplied by a RADIUS server.

Bar Code Reader Function Useful for Camera Memo and Password Input
The RICOH G800SE reads linear and matrix barcodes. Barcodes can be stored as camera memos that can help with such tasks as managing goods for distribution and preventing patient mix-ups at medical institutions.
Optional GPS Unit with Electronic Compass GP-1
By connecting the optional compact GP-1 GPS unit, you can attach location information to pictures or movies taken with the camera. And thanks to the electronic compass support, you can also register direction information to recorded images. Even with the GP-1 attached, the camera supports IP64 dirt resistance and waterproofing, and can withstand the impact of a 3' fall.
Optional Laser Barcode Reader Unit BR-1
Connect the BR-1 barcode unit to read linear barcodes. This laser barcode reader scans codes faster than the camera lens and can be used even in the dark. With the BR-1 attached, the camera offers IP64 dust- and water-resistance and can withstand drops of up to 4'.
Mode Dial for Quick Mode Changes
In addition to the automatic shooting mode and scene mode, the camera is equipped with the CALS mode that supports a wide range of electronic delivery standards. Image size and quality can be selected from 6 types, ranging from 16M 4:3F to VGA 4:3N. The camera also has a "My Settings" mode. By registering often used settings such as image quality and ISO sensitivity in advanced, you can shoot using your preferred settings simply by turning the mode dial to MY1 or MY2.
Use existing pictures as a template when composing new photos. Template transparency can be selected from 20, 40, 60, and 80 percent. One way in which this feature can be used is for before and after shots on construction sites.
You can clip shots of survey data onto worksite photos so that the relationship between the photos and the survey data is clear when the photos are viewed.
Password-protect the entire camera or internal memory or require a password only for USB access or to modify camera settings. Access can be granted by scanning a password barcode or entering the password using the camera's onscreen keyboard.
Create separate user and administrator passwords. The administrator can restrict access to functions used on-site, for example to prevent unintended changes to camera settings when the camera is used in the workplace.
Two types of SD memory cards can be password protected: SDHC and SDXC. Password-protecting memory cards prevents images falling into the wrong hands should the card be lost or stolen.
The RICOH G800SE is equipped with extremely accurate edit detection that makes digital images submitted as evidence more likely to be trusted. RSA encryption enables edit detection for entire images, which can be imported to the supplied EC1 software for a highly accurate determination of whether or not the image has been tampered with.
Electronic Level and Pitch and Roll Indicators
The camera's built-in electronic level with pitch and roll indicators can be used to straighten the camera before shooting, ensuring precision even where footing is poor.
Date Display When Camera is Turned On
The date is important for photos that will be used in record-keeping. The RICOH G800SE displays the date from start-up until the shutter release button is pressed, helping you catch errors in the camera clock before they are recorded with your pictures.
