Klipsch RP-160M overview

  • 1Description

Suitable for use in large rooms, this pair of ebony RP-160M Reference Premiere 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers from Klipsch can handle 100W of continuous power, and are equipped with a 6.5" woofer and a 1" tweeter. The 90 x 90° hybrid Tractrix horn on each speaker helps deliver optimized high-frequency sound and speaker dynamics. The Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) titanium tweeters are designed to minimize distortion, and the copper Cerametallic woofer has a rigid and lightweight construction. Additionally, each speaker can extend down to a notable 43 Hz. The RP-160M has an MDF cabinet with brushed polymer veneer baffle finish. The removable grilles can attach magnetically.

90 x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horn
The Tractrix horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension in an effort to enhance imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail.
Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) Titanium Tweeter
A Linear Travel Suspension titanium tweeter is designed to minimize distortion for enhanced and detailed performance.
Spun Copper Cerametallic Woofer
This speaker's Cerametallic woofer features a rigid design and lightweight construction for minimal cone breakup and distortion.
Tractrix Port
The integrated Tractrix port allows for efficient and fast air transfer from the cabinet, enabling clean and powerful low-frequency sound.

    Klipsch RP-160M reviews

RP-160M Reference Premiere 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers (Ebony, Pair) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Full Rich Sound I have owned Klipsch speakers for a number of years. The RP-160Ms provide a full rich sound and more than ample bass when coupled with a subwoofer. The speakers are used as part of an entertainment system and music listening - classical and jazz.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looking for more Klipsch to round out my setup. I'm using these with a Sony STR-DN1070 receiver and a Sony Sub-woofer, primarily for watching movies. I like them. Prior to these I was using some Yamaha bookshelf speakers I bought 25 years ago. The Yamaha's had larger speakers but these Klipsch sound distinctly better but maybe a little more directional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Speakers Good, Documentation Awful Dear +Klipsch just got my rp-160m bookshelf speakers And, as expected, they are awesome. Not so awesome, however is what refers to itself as a 'Users Manual.' It is, by far, the largest waste of good paper and high quality printing I've seen in a while. As things are today, one expects shoddy 'instructions' to accompany an item while the good and valuable information is on-line. I therefore went to the Klipsch website for satisfaction. Very Pretty. But not real well organized. The support information, as far as it goes, is okay, but it's the sort of stuff that belongs in the old HI-Fi Stereo Review Magazine, not on a site dedicated to what are among the best speakers being built today. And the electronic 'RP-160M Monitor Speaker Manual'? The PDF content is identical to that of the paper item, and is thus nearly worthless. I checked the pages intended to sell the speakers. For the RP-160M, its 'Strong, Flexible Removable Grille' is highly touted, but nowhere (until we scroll all the way to the bottom and click on a pdf download) do we find performance specs. Sheesh. (The grille frame, BTW, is a cheaply made plastic thing, not precisely what I would have mentioned with such pride, and, you'll note, not included in the page's 'hero' image.) And, worst of all, there is no way, that I can see, to email technical support. I want to see a frequency response graph, to determine where the bass rolloff occurs, to make setting up a sub-woofer easier. I am not interested in dialing a number only to wait on the phone for half-an-hour in order to hear a cue-sheet read by a vilely-paid near-slave, to whom English is a third or fourth language. If Klipsch has actual, English-speaking and knowledgeable people, ready to help, I apologize, but, frankly, I'm not gonna chance it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what you'd expect from Klipsch I'm using these speakers as side surrounds in a 7.1 speaker system. I have 280's and a 450 in the front and 250's as rear surrounds. Every aspect of this sound system is incredible. If I had the room I would have put another set of 280's or 260's as the side surrounds but as the next best option these things are incredible!
