Designed for both astronomical and terrestrial use, Pentax's 20x60 S-Series SP WP Binoculars can be used with confidence in all weather and conditions. The large oversized 60mm objectives are fully multicoated to reduce reflection and maximize light transmission through the entire optical path. Utilizing the traditional porro prism configuration gives scenes a rich depth of view for an immersive observation experience and provides a comfortable feel in the hand with a lot of surface area to maintain a sure grip. The large objectives and coatings maximize the amount of light getting to the user's eyes for exceptional low-light capabilities.

Complementing the optical performance are construction details made for the outdoors. The optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed for fogproof performance and to make them submersible to as much as 3.3'. The binoculars sport a generous 20mm eye relief and the fold-down eyecups seal against the ocular cavity to block stray peripheral light which can dim images and affect night-adjusted vision. Their over-sized objectives add weight and bias the center of gravity forward making user fatigue a concern and hand-shake a possibility, so to aid long observation sessions, the binoculars can be mounted on a tripod using an optional adapter.

Pentax S-Series WP 20x60 Reviews

Great binos for the price

I have some Pentax 10x43 binos and so know that whatever they produce it will hold up well in use. What is great about these 20x60 super binos is how well they fit in my hands and how easy it is to hold them steady despite the 20x magnification. I have 10x32 Swarovski binos and they are more difficult to hold steady. Adding a bino adapter to use a monopod for support is a good for subjects on the land but I bought these for stargazing and doubt that my monopod will be tall enough. This is why I like how easy it is to hand hold them and view through them for extended periods of time. They are lighter than my 7x50 binos and I realize that they may not hold up as well with their plastic construction but at the price I do not care all that much and expect if they are not abused they will outlast me.

Although the FOV is narrow, I use these for astronomy use. At specific objects such as M45, [ the Pleiades ] and others, they are terrific. A very good flat field almost edge to edge.   Very bright and clear views in daylight, I checked them on a rainy, cloudy day and the view was astounding on terrestrial objects. Great binoculars at a great price. But keep in mind, at 20x, to get the best views you will need to mount these on a tripod or monopod.    They are a terrific and excel for intended viewing if you are not looking for a wide field of view.

They are fine for my purpose of casual birding, wildlife tracking and astronomy, given their reasonable price. They are clearer and brighter than I expected. Could they be clearer & brighter? Yes, but that would cost more in money and weight. They are usable hand-held for brief periods but are much steadier if you can brace against something or use a tripod/mono-pod. I wear glasses so the long eye-relief is very welcome.  I would recommend them to anyone who wants good enough at a reasonable price in place of great at the cost of much more money and a big gain in weight. This is not my first purchase from B&H and they continue to live up to the high standards of service & quality that that they provided in the past.

Ive been using this binocular for a couple of years now.  It is possibly a 4-star binocular (compared to Nikon), but considering the great price, worth 5-star rating.  Its not your all-around binocular for everyday use.  I actually use it as a low powered scope.  Although its 20x, its as useful as a 30x scope because of better field of view and three dimensional effect.  Eye relief is so long that I need to adjust them a notch even with glasses.

I think these are great binoculars. They are not too heavy and not too light at 3 pounds. Optics are good. The price is great. I wish Pentax would make a 20x80.

I was a little hesitant at first, but on a tripod these binoculars are superb for long distance viewing. Was looking for something that you can transport and use in the field without the added weight while on a budget! So far so good, and time will tell!!

Good quality that You would expect from Pentax. Optics are sharp Construction is solid and comfortable. the focus is a little stiff. The eye cups are hard plastic i would have preferred rubber with maybe a little side cover. The objective covers are just plastic push on type but OK, The eye piece cover is a single cover for both eye pieces and completely useless. Overall A good set of binoculars and worth the price.

question

What type of tripod adapter does this item require?
Asked by: Michael S.
An L-bracket is what you want, and any of them (that I've seen) will work as the space between the housings to either side is quite wide. These are pretty big binoculars, so get a sturdy L-bracket, not one of those scrawny ones made for roof-prism binoculars with little space between the housings.
