The compact and lightweight 6.5x21 U-Series Papilio II Binocular combines aspherical optical elements and BAK4 Porro prisms to deliver edge-to-edge image sharpness with a 49° apparent angle of view. The optical elements are also fully multicoated to provide a high transmission of light. With a 6.5x magnification and 21mm objectives, you obtain a notable magnification, insignificant image jitter due to unsteady hands, and a compact form factor. You can easily spot your targets with a 7.5° angular field of view and quickly bring them into focus with a center focus wheel. In addition to observing distant scenes, birds and game, the minimum focus of 20" allows you to study in detail close objects like butterflies, animal footprints, marks or landscape features. To reduce image jitter while observing distant objects or for prolonged observations, you can connect the binocular to a tripod via an integrated 1/4"-20 socket. The binocular also features a 3.2mm exit pupil, a 15mm eye relief, an interpupillary and a diopter adjustments.

The binocular is very compact, lightweight, and features a single piece frame that houses objectives, which allows for a synchronized interpupillary adjustment. To accommodate eye glasses wearers, the binocular offers twist-up rubber eyecups. Also included are a carrying case, a neck strap, and eyepiece covers.

6.5x21 U-Series Papilio II Binocular is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique close-focusing binoculars These are great little binoculars specialising in close-up views (500mm/1.6ft) or even closer depending on your eyes. They are terrific in that application and OK (though only OK) for longer-distance use as general-purpose binoculars. They're great for butterflies (hence the name), other insects and bugs, flowers and, generally, close inspection of anything you'd like to see magnified close-up. They are light in weight, inexpensive, convenient to carry and quite well-built within the strictures of their mostly-plastic construction. 5 stars for their unique special purpose, adequacy for general use and overall value for money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for insect watching I bought these to watch insects in my garden and am very happy with them for that purpose. I could see details of the heads of wasp larvae forming in their cells and could focus just an arms' length distance away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Optics! I have become interested in owning a pair of binoculars that offered a very close focus for insect and floral viewing and narrowed it down to the Pentax Papilio II's. I had considered the 8.5X for the additional resolution reasons, but decided on the 6.5 to garner a wider FOV, wider EP and less hand-holding shake. Unfortunately, the 1st 6.5x21 U-Series Papilio II Binocular I got arrived Out of Collimation, then the 1st exchanged pair focuser was hitting high resistance when out at 100yds or so. B&H insured my satisfaction by providing another Papilio 6.5X21 for exchange. Well, the 3rd Pentax Papilio II 6.5X21 has hit a Grand Slam! Functions and features are very impressive: *super smooth even focus with no slack, no stickion, this unit has 1 revolution of focus for 5ft down to an amazing CF of just 15, 1 revolution for focal sweep from 5ft to 100ft, another full revolution beyond infinity *IPD smooth with perfect resistance, perfect collimation, eye cups comfortable with great 3 position lock-ins *solid grippe armor, full bino strap 360 deg rotation, good Ocular cover, nice cordura case and just 10oz of bino weight! Optically, these bat well above their price point: *FOV is crystal clear and is sharp out to 90%+...Big Sweet Spot *Colors are a little on the warm side with bright images-even in the shadows *Pin-point focus and superb resolution details for a 6.5X *CA and glare issues appear well controlled *Reverse porro design presents a nice DOF stereopsis *Good eye relief (no glasses) with quick FOV acquisition Overall, I'm impressed with these 6.5X21's as they can offer a comfortable view throughout, Especially within their Amazing CF Range!! B&H CS has listened and were extremely helpful, quickly providing me with exchanges...No questions Asked! The only real negative is that this little optical gem is not weather proof, thus needs to be treated accordingly! Ted

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW! Coolest optics ever... I have been reading Web reviews of the Pentax 6.5x21 Papilio II Binocular and knew that B&H was the place to get a pair. Ordered it on Monday and it was delivered on Thursday, amazing service & price - as usual from B&H. This binocular is really a 3-D magnifying glass...I put a 1 piece on my knee - it focused cleanly and filled over 35% of the viewing area. Objects 2 feet distant are brought in to less than 4 inches away. It's lightweight and the 6.5X gives you a brighter, less shaky image. The focus is butter-smooth and I spent the 1st 2 hours looking at my coin collection, reading super-small print on bottles and just having fun with my new toy. I stepped out to look at the night sky and the crescent moon was clear with grey areas and craters showing, no color/image flare. Very impressive for $130.00 bins. Kudos to Pentax and to B&H! Love my little Butterfly...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Value This little bin does everything right at a great price. Nice field of view and almost sharp to the edge. Magnification fits the objective diameter for a usable exit pupil of 3mm. This makes it better in low light situations and easier to use than other compact bins with higher magnification. This is one of few compact bins I would consider for general use. The exceptional close focus is a nice bonus.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just Right Many people buy binocs with too much power - these are 6.5, which is great - enough power and not much shake. Very Sharp. Very close focus. Reasonable weight and size. They're fantastic for their close-up capability - fantastic for butterflying, bumblebeeing, and humming birding. Don't know how I got by without them. Nothing else on the market like them, of which I am aware?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are great for travel Took these to Florida recently and they were great for birds and alligators at a reasonable distance. Very bright and clear! Rival much more expensive bins! Haven't tried the close viewing capability, but this should be a great added benefit. They are very compact and have great dipper adjustments which will stay where you set them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you like Buterflies I purchased them because I enjoy watching Butterflies and other insects. I plan to use them to view the many varieties of Dragonflies that reside at the Bitter Lake NWR in Roswell, NM.
