B&H Photo PC Pro Workstation Z840 overview

With the Z840 Rackable Turnkey Workstation with Wirecast Pro 8 and Matrox VS4 put together by B&H you will be able to capture and stream out to the Internet from up to four HD-SDI video sources. The bundle combines a robust professional workstation with Telestream Wirecast Pro 8 live streaming and switching software plus a four-input HD-SDI capture card. All of the hardware and software is pre-installed and tested by B&H technicians.

At the heart of this system is the HP Z840 K7P06UT Rackable Workstation. This server-grade computer features a 2.1 GHz Intel Xeon E5-2620 v4 eight-core CPU backed up by 32GB of RAM. To provide the GPU acceleration capturing and switching multiple streams of HD requires - as well as support the more mundane task of driving your monitors (available separately) - the workstation features the HP Quadro M4000 GPU with 1664 CUDA Cores and 8GB of RAM. A 512GB SSD drive is provided to hold Windows and all of the applications. The advantage of using an SSD is faster boot times as well as faster applications launching. For data there are three 4TB HDDs configured as RAID 0, plus the original 1TB HDD included with the workstation, yielding a total of 13TBs.

Wirecast Pro 8 - the software component of this turnkey - is live switching and streaming software that supports an unlimited number of input sources from live camera feeds, iOS 8 mobile devices, computer desktops, web and network streams, Teradek wireless systems, and more. Not only can it do basic switching, in software you can add titles, lower thirds, and other graphical elements to create professional grade programs. The built-in streaming encoder supports H.264, x264, and Windows Media, and can deliver over the Internet via RTMP, RTP, and MMS compatible CDNs. In addition, a local copy can be recorded in ProRes or MJPEG.

To capture from up to four local sources, the Matrox VS4 Quad HD Capture Card is included in this bundle. The VS4 is a PCIe x8 card that allows you to simultaneously stream and capture from up to four independent SDI or HD-SDI sources, integrating natively with the Wirecast software.

So that you can ingest media from file-based sources, a 15-in-1 internal card reader is included. The reader supports CompactFlash, SDHC, MemoryStick, and more. The reader interfaces with the computer via USB 3.0.

    The Matrox VS4 Quad HD Capture Card for is a PCIe x8 card that allows you to simultaneously stream and capture from up to four independent SDI video sources using optional vMix, Wirecast, or the full version of VS4 Recorder Pro software applications. The VS4 card includes a trial version of the VS4 Recorder Pro software.     Inputs
    Four SD/HD-SDI inputs are active at all times. The VS4 auto senses the video signal and automatically sets each input up for the correct format. Each input is independent of the others, so you can feed a different format to each input with any issues.
    Formats and Codecs
    You can mix and match video formats, stream and capture (to available storage systems) using the VS4 with the Telestream software. The VS4 Matrox supports encoding at up to 300 Mb/s from each input and supports the Matrox MPEG 2 I-Frame codec, DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, and DVCPROHD codecs.

    Use USB 3.0 technology to transfer photos, videos, music, and virtually any other file type from up to 15 memory card types to your computer using the 15-in-1 USB 3.0 5.25/3.25" Internal Media Card Reader from HP. This Windows-compatible multi-card reader mounts internally using a USB 3.0 20-pin interface and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 using an included 10-pin adapter. While this multi-card reader may be mounted to both 3.5" and 5.25" internal bays, its bracket must be removed before it may be mounted to a 3.5" bay.

    Supported memory cards include Compact Flash, SD cards, memory sticks, and multi-media cards. With the included adapter, the 15-in-1 Media Card Reader expands its compatibility to support up to 20 memory card types.
