Canon Rebel T6s overview

  • 1Description

Adding much more control over previous models, the EOS Rebel T6s DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens from Canon is the first of its class to feature a top LCD panel, a Quick Control dial, and horizontal level. This camera packs a high resolution 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6 Image Processor into a compact body, and it comes with a versatile standard to telephoto zoom lens, enabling shooting in a wide variety of conditions, from bright sunlight to dim indoor scenarios due to ISO performance of up to 12,800, which can be expanded to 25,600. The APS-C camera has built-in Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC that allows for wireless transfer of images and video to social networks and cloud storage via the Camera Connect mobile app. Also, NFC enables fast connection to mobile devices as well as the CS100 Connect Station.

Full HD video in MP4 format is possible with the T6s in addition to stills and it has Hybrid CMOS AF III for fast, accurate autofocus during movie shooting and during Live View. There is also a built-in HDR movie mode for improved shadow and highlight detail. A vari-angle 3.0" 1.04M-dot ClearView II touchscreen LCD monitor on the rear of the camera allows for versatile positioning of the camera and clear viewing, even outdoors. Additionally, the EOS scene analysis system can detect near-infrared light and flickering light sources to provide the best information for metering the scene.

High speed continuous shooting at up to 5 fps ensures you will not miss a shot during fast action and this is benefited by the use of a 19-point all cross-type autofocus system. Creative filters are also available for preset looks for your photos.

The EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens is included along with the camera body to serve as a versatile everyday lens that encompasses a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 28.8-216mm. The STM stepping motor helps to achieve near-silent focusing when used in conjunction with the Movie Servo AF mode and the optical image stabilization system helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake.

Product Advisory: In some units of the EOS Rebel T6s white spots may exist on the optical layer which may result in the appearance of dark circular patterns on the capture image under certain shooting conditions. Potentially affected units include cameras with serials numbers of "XXnnnnnnnnnn" in which XX is 01 or 02. These cameras will be inspected and repaired free of charge by Canon USA.

24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor & DIGIC 6 Image Processor
At the core of the T6s is the 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 6 Image Processor, both of which work together to produce high resolution images in a variety of shooting conditions. This is possible through a native sensitivity of ISO 100-12,800, which is expandable to 25,600 for situations that demand it.
Top LCD Panel, Quick Control Dial, & Horizontal Level
The T6s is the first of the EOS Rebel class to feature a top LCD panel, Quick Control Dial, and horizontal level. These all contribute to improved operability of the camera. The top panel allows users to quickly and easily review settings without having to resort to the rear LCD screen or viewfinder while the Quick Control Dial enables quickly changing of settings. Also, the horizontal level ensures that your images are straight with the horizon.
3.0" Vari-Angle Touchscreen LCD Monitor
A 3.0" Clear View II Vari-angle Touchscreen LCD monitor with 1,040k-dot resolution provides clear composition and playback viewing even in bright light. Its tilt and swivel capability makes shooting at odd angles easy, and a smudge-resistant coating keeps the monitor clear. Seven-level brightness control is available, and intuitive touchscreen control makes menu control simple, and offers Touch Autofocus.
Full HD 1080p Video Capture
Full HD Movie mode supports Movie Servo for continuous focus tracking of moving subjects during recording. Manual exposure control and a built-in stereo microphone with manual audio level adjustment provide high-quality control over your shooting, and multiple frame rates and resolutions provide quality-level and stylistic shooting options. Stills can be recorded during video shooting simply by pressing the camera's shutter button. Also, a built-in HDR movie mode will record alternating exposures at 60 fps and combine them to generate a 30 fps movie.
19-Point All Cross-Type AF System
For fast, accurate focusing in a variety of situations, the T6s features a 19-point all cross-type AF system. This allows for speedy focusing performance when using the viewfinder as well as in area selection modes.
Hybrid CMOS AF III
The Hybrid CMOS AF III System is utilized when shooting photos and video in Live View. Combining two different kinds of AF-phase and contrast detection-continuous focus tracking becomes faster and more accurate than ever before in Live View.
Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity with NFC
Wirelessly transfer images and videos with the built-in Wi-Fi connectivity of the T6s. When used with the Camera Connect mobile app users will be able to quickly and effectively upload files directly to social networking sites. Also, with NFC the camera can be paired to compatible mobile devices quickly, as well as to the CS100 Connect Station.

    Canon Rebel T6s reviews

EOS Rebel T6s DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Rebel yet I have had this camera (T6s) since its launch last year. I read all the reviews and test reports and decided this would be the one. I moved from the T3i , I was unhappy with slow focus in AF because my needs have changed. I love the speed of the T6s and the added features and controls are great. The system came with the 18-135 and 55-250, I added the 10-18 to complete the system. Although ALL the STM lens are great, the 18-135 is the one I use the most. I have been a Canon user for over 30 yrs and have relied on Canon to deliver the best quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mr I own Canon 6D, 50D, T3i, T5i and now T6s and I must say the T6s is superb in both design and quality of picture. So good in fact that I sold my T3i and T5i in place of the new T6s. Top view and back dial was a great step up on this camera's design and ease of use. Recent photo shoot produced excellent HD quality photo's right out of the camera without software enhancements. For the price, it offers a perfect EOS style crop sensor addition to my Canon collection.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Great Camera for Amateurs and Prosumers I use it as a second body to back up my Canon 5D Mark III. The T6s is a great camera and with the 18-135 STM lens is a great all around camera, light weight and small enough to fit in a small bag. High ISO comes handy in low light conditions. Sharp and clear photos with the 24 MP sensor. No 60fps video though. The lack of beam assist can be tricky when trying to take people photos at night using the built in flash. The flash will pre-fire a few times blinding and annoying everyone. Canon should really switch to beam assist. Overall, a great camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW!!! I've had mine a bit over a year. I've used it with Canon and 3rd party lenses and flashes as well as wireless triggers and transmitters. I've used in indoors, outdoors, studios and for commercial work (yes, it's not about the camera, it's about the photographer). It has never disappointed me. Since I don't use the built in flash, I tend to save a lot on battery life which makes it long lasting and an astonishing advance from the traditional Rebel line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sophisticated yet easy to use well featured camera This is my second review because my first year anniversary is coming up. I bought my T6s upon release. After a year I still couldn't be happier. I'm carefully buying only EF mount lenses for when I upgrade to a full sensor camera. Ironically my go to lens is my EF-S 18-135mm I bought separately. Yes the Wifi is totally different than the other Wifi offering Canon currently offers, you can't control it remotely from your computer but you can your phone. Most android apps will not work with this wifi. However this wifi has advanced features of it's own including DLNA. I think what I appreciated about this camera is that it allowed me to learn photography at my own pace; first with everything on automatic, and then as I became more experienced I could explore other features of the camera. Because Canon is such a popular product a great deal of accessories are being offered by Canon and third-party suppliers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving this thing! Loving this thing! This is my 5th DSLR all Canon.. XT 30D 50D SL1 This is the BEST so far! No prob with sensor.. I don't see much if any noise at 3200... 100% keepers so far! Tried the 18-135, 50 1.8 and 70-300 so far...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile The top LCD makes adjustments while shooting a breeze, and gives the T6s a feel similar to it's more capable cousins in the Canon lineup. Add in great video quality and you have a camera that is an overall winner in its DSLR class. Very satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't be happier! So much fun to use! Creates super sharp photos and is very fun to use. This is my first DSLR purchase and I really enjoy the flip screen and the the ability to control the camera with your phone! It can be the mobile shutter as well as be able to download the pictures straight to your phone to share...how cool is that?!? I have been needing this step up in my blossoming interest in photography and this absolutely delivers. All the functions you could want, with a simplicity that makes point-and-shoot very easy. Can't wait to continue exploring and creating with this camera! On the practical side, very mobile camera, light, sturdy. Great sharp lens to start out with, has a long reach which is really nice. My only issue so far is that it seems the screen has a little bit of give in it which just means you have to be careful not to whack it on anything when it is flipped out away from the body of the camera. But that should be common sense for anything expensive and fragile. Great buy! I am hooked.
