Savage AETN overview

  • 1Description

Shortening the minimum focusing distance of your Nikon F lens while also increasing the magnification for macro shooting, this Savage Macro Art Extension Tube offers a variable extension range of 55-71mm for fine-tuned control of the lens-to-sensor distance. It also maintains full autofocus and exposure metering capabilities via the integrated gold-plated contacts. The bayonet mounts are constructed from a copper alloy for secure and accurate mounting of the lens and to the camera and the all-metal tube's interior is matted in order to prevent unwanted reflections or flare.

Variable extension range from 55-71mm enables fine-tuning of the lens-to-camera distance for dialing in different magnifications and focusing distances. The extension ring also features index markings for precise and repeatable results.
By extending the distance of the lens from the camera, greater magnifications and shorter focusing distances can be achieved for macro shooting.
This adapter is designed for Nikon F-mount lenses, including G-type lenses, and the gold-plated contacts maintain autofocus and exposure capabilities.
All-metal construction with copper alloy bayonets ensures durability and consistency. Additionally, the all-metal tube has a matted interior to prevent reflections.

    Savage AETN reviews

Macro Art Extension Tube for Nikon F Mount is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again. I use the extension tubes for photographing natural growing plant weeds and some insects. I think it's nice the tube is constructed in one piece there by avoiding numerous connections that might loose continuity like my Kenko set of tubes did therefore having to replace them while not using them a whole lot. However the Savage MacroArt extension tube has a very tight fit on the side that attaches to my micro nikkor 105mm lens. Now, the other end that connects to the camera is fine. So rather than going through the trouble of returning it and maybe having the same problem I'll just leave it on the lens. I do most of my shooting with the tubes anyway.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Design Poor Quality The first one I got would not disengage from my lens. I contacted Savage and they told me how to disengage it and sent FedEx to pick it up and exchanged it for a new one. The first one also would not extend to 75mm. The replacement works perfectly and is as smooth as silk in engaging and disengaging it from the lens but will not engage with the camera. I'm extremely disappointed with the product and will be returning it and going with the Nikon extension tubes. The product is well designed and fairly easy to use but their quality control and manufacturing specs leave a lot to be desired. Their customer service this far has been good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extended Extensions The Macro Art Extension Tube from Savage was more impressive than I have planned on. Simply a solid well made product, that I feel comfortable hanging my expensive macro lenses on. The mount, and the connections look and work well, and the zoom feature works smoothly while at the same time staying in the position selected. There are no optics, so I see no downside in terms of image degradation. Just a well thought out product, executed cleanly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting extension tube I just received this product a week ago and have only used it on a couple of lenses so far. It seems to be a very well designed, well built tube. I think it is all metal construction. It's very sturdy, especially when closed to the shortest position, 55mm. I had no significant issues either with AF or with exposures, so the electronics seem to work well. There are only a couple of disappointments. The lens release catch doesn't work smoothly on my copy. It was especially difficult to work, on the first lens that I used with it. It now is a little easier to work, but still not as good as it should be, so I assume that some of the roughness has smoothed out due to my using the device. The other issue is that there is a little play in the tube, when it is fully extended to 71mm. It doesn't really affect the use of the device, but it's something to keep in mind if you're trying to hand hold the camera. Bottom line is that it's a keeper for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed I have been using this extension tube for 2 months and I come up with amazing images. I connect it to my Nikon D700/800 with a 105 macro lens. I've also used a 85mm 1.4G, 70-200 VRII and a 24-70 2,8. I also connected this tube to my sons Nikon D40 and 18-200 VRII lens. The design is well built and very durable. I had no issues with AF or with any of the lenses I own. I will be making videos to post on my YouTube channel. Thanks so much SAVAGE.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Causes dreaded Fee error with some lenses I tried this with a 200mm Nikkor Micro lens that has manual aperture ring, and even with fully stopped down aperture (F32 in this case) and lock engaged still get Fee error. Works fine with other lenses, but I got it to give a little extra magnification for the 200mm, so will be returning. Also, maybe I got a dud, but there is significant play in the attachment between this unit and the lenses, for all of the lenses.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from IT DOES NOT WORK I purchased one of these units, the rear mount works fine but the front mount will not attach properly to all three of my Nikkor lenses. I have had to push in the lens so hard to be able to start the twist to lock it in I'm afraid that it will cause damage. To twist it in takes two hands and again I'm afraid that it will cause damage. Finally it does not click when you have twisted it in. the TTL and Metering does not work. I have stopped using it. It seems the machining of the metalwork is inaccurate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as advertised. So far, I have just used it with the Nikon AF-S Micro 105mm 1:2.8 G ED lens in the kitchen shooting my pet butterfly. It lets me get very close and get good detail of its wings. While just using the macro lens by itself, I can get full frame shots of the butterfly itself. I am looking forward to having a lot of fun with this.
