Vello BG-C12 Overview

Designed for the Canon 7D Mark II, the BG-C12 Battery Grip from Vello holds one or two LP-E6 batteries, effectively doubling your camera's shooting time. The grip also comes with a tray to hold six AA batteries (rechargeable batteries recommended).

The BG-C12 adds comfort and stability when shooting in the portrait orientation, and it provides an alternate shutter button, AF start, AF point selection, AE lock/FE lock, and multi-function buttons. A multi-controller and a main dial are also located on the grip, adding convenience when shooting vertically. It is designed with an anti-slip rubber grip and firm curvature to further improve handling. The grip screws into the camera's tripod mount, and it has another tripod mount on its bottom for attaching to a camera support.

A control-lock switch can deactivate all of the grip's controls when they aren't needed.
A metal mount allows you to attach a camera strap to the BG-C12.
The BG-C12 is compatible with the Canon ACK-E6 AC Adapter Kit, allowing the camera to be powered for long periods of time as needed when shooting star trails or time-lapse photography.
A compartment on the grip stores your camera's battery door to prevent loss.

Obviously not the Canon version and not a durable but for the cost, I can afford to replace it a few times and still save money.

Works just as good as the Canon for a third of the price, only complaint is when it goes to sleep after a few minutes it takes 10-15 seconds to wake back up and I am missing a lot of action shots.

Just what I was looking for.

I have been wanting to get a battery grip for sometime now. I just got it and installed it right away, put a couple batteries in and gave it a test. This is just what I needed because it makes shooting verticals so much easier. It functions just as it should and I have no complaints so far. It is also much less than camera brand.

Love it

question

About the material of this grip does it feel the same with the body (leather/rubber) and are the color the same?
Asked by: Frelian Peter B.
The grip is textured to feel exactly like the body but has a very slight difference in feel. You have to be thinking about it to notice though.

question

Do you happen to know whether its weather-sealed? Especially around the insert section of battery compartment? Thanks
Asked by: Marek Z.
It's not "weather sealed", but I've used mine in rain more than once over the past several years with no issues whatsoever. If the rain is very heavy, I use plastic covers over the camera/lens. In light rain and drizzle I don't usually use the covers and never had any trouble.

question

DO both batteries slide into the bottom of the grip? Doesn't show this very clearly.
Asked by: Anonymous
You can click on the " " symbol for the product photo and the seventh image shows the battery tray. It holds both batteries and slides into the grip from the end, just like the Canon grip for the 7D Mark II does.

I am making an assumption here, but the Canon grip has a magnesium alloy body, the Vello cost is a quarter the price of Canon's, is it all plastic?
Asked by: Mark
Yes, the Vello grip is polycarbonate.

question

Can the batteries be changed while the camera is operating with the intervelometer for extended shooting (star trails)?
Asked by: Anonymous
No... once installed, the battery grip is the camera's only source of power. When the battery tray is removed from the grip (as is required when changing batteries), all power is lost to the camera.
