Olympus 14-150mm f/4.0-5.6 overview

  • 1Description

Designed as a one-lens solution, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f/4-5.6 II Lens from Olympus is an extremely versatile all-in-one zoom for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. Providing a 28-300mm equivalent focal length range, this lens spans a wide-angle to telephoto reach to suit photographing in nearly any situation. Despite its reach, the lens still remains compact for easy portability, and it utilizes a sophisticated optical design, comprised of various aspherical, low dispersion, and high refractive index glass elements, to reduce aberrations and distortion for high sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy. A ZERO coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast when working in strong lighting conditions. Additionally, this 14-150mm lens also sports a Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) AF system that is quick and quiet, and has a weather-resistant construction to suit working in inclement weather conditions.

Spanning a wide-angle to telephoto range, this all-in-one zoom is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 28-300mm equivalent focal length.
One Dual Super Aspherical element, one aspherical element, two E-HR (Extra-High Refractive Index) elements, and one high refractive index element are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range for increased sharpness and resolution. An EDA (Extra-Low Dispersion Aspherical) element and one extra-low dispersion element are also used to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy.
A ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) autofocus system benefits both photo and video applications due to its smooth, quiet, and fast performance.
Dust-, freeze-, and splash-proof design ensure the lens' performance in inclement and harsh conditions.

    Olympus 14-150mm f/4.0-5.6 reviews

M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f/4-5.6 II Lens is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 78.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good walk around lens I wanted a versatile lens to go with my OM D EM5 markII and was willing to wait for the mark II version to be released. I've used this lens to take almost every shot I can think of from almost macro to sunrise. it does everything fairly well. I am slightly disappointed with the graininess of shots taken at the extreme focal point and in low light indoors it's not so great. (Low light performance may be my fault.) I'm not sure it's fair to expect a lens to do Everything I've tried with it with, well, and if such a lens existed, I couldn't afford it. I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a good, versatile lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice lens I'm no pro photographer. I bought this lens because it covered a wide focal length and I am not a fan of carrying a backpack full of photo gear around, having to swap out lenses every three seconds to get different kinds of shots. Obviously it's no pro lens but I think it does the trick. Going to be bringing it to Europe next month and it will be nice to have just one do it all lens. The fact that it is weather sealed is an added bonus but I doubt I'll be out in the rain with it anyways. I do think the price could be reduced. I'm not sure if the price is reflecting the quality, or just the universality of the focal lengths.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than expected Great IQ.After reading negative comments about this type of zoom, I thought it would be a compromise re sharpness and color rendition. I sold 3 lenses with the same range because at 82 years old I did no longer wish to carry a camera bag and juggle lenses. In the short time I have had it I am very happy with the photos it produces on my Oly EM-10, and feel confident that I can use it in a variety of situations except low light. I have a Pany f/1.4 for that. So I guess we could say it is the perfect light weight combo for seniors and any one seeking good results without the pro prices.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for Travelling I use this lens with my Olympus OMD EM10. Last summer in Glacier National Park I was going back and forth between shooting landscapes versus wild life with the 12- 40 and the 40 to 150 lenses, and missing some shots. I heard about the forthcoming 14 to 150 len. It has a very professional feel and the photos seem very good and sharp from out to 125mm. More important perhaps, it handles well and body+lens+strap comes in at less than a 1 lb 10 oz. I formerly used a Canon DSLR with the 100-400 L lens. Carrying the whole package was awful on my back. Consequently I stopped carrying the lens altogether! This new Micro 4/3 set up is a delight for travel. I will be using it with the Olympus 25mm 1.4

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So, so much better Two months ago, I turned in my heavy Nikon gear, faithful friends for years, and swapped for an Oly e-m5 II. This was the lens I chose for its range and weatherproofing. I love it! I have taken over 500 photos since then and couldn't be happier. It's sharper and faster and captures more detail close up than my Nikon. I shot a rose and caught a bee in flight. I can see the veins in the wings and the pollen on its legs! This is a great walk about lens with a very usable range, near to far. I'm very pleased and surprised. Recently took it to the Peabody Essex Museum for the Rodin exhibit. Yes, I had to bump up the ISO to compensate for the f4, but the photos were still sharp, contrasty. Although I loved my Nikon, this camera and this lens are the BOMB!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way better than my old 60D + Tamron 18-270mm Setup I spent some time comparing this lens combined with the e-m5 mark ii with my previous setup of a Canon 60D with Tamron 18-270mm Lens. I was amazed to find that the zoom range was very similar - with the added bonus of the 4:3 sensor on the Mark II giving more vertical FOV. The lens is fast, light with the range I need. The only issues I have - The rotation of the lens is in the opposite direction to my old lens. I'll get used to it, but a little awkward from the outset. - No lens lock, so sometimes the lens extends while hanging around my hip, but it normally doesn't extend too much. - No hardware button to switch between Manual and Automatic Focus. You need to switch this on the camera which takes more time I find.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding for run & gun in the field use My world is landscape photography which I convert into fine art that appears to be a watercolor AND fire/rescue photography for the local fire department. You never know when you are out for a drive or at the scene of a burning car or inside a burnt out house documenting what lens you will need at that spontanious moment. This lens provides great versatility and is a workhorse(moisture, dust, temp). The 14 to 150 range creates huge flexibility for framing. It is a wee bit slow, but hardly a drawback. The price is right! Just wish the pro version was the same focal length! I am about to buy a second for my other camera body. I have several other zoom and prime lens, but for everyday use this unit is TOPS!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good general purpose lens I bought this for my wife's OM-D E-M5 to replace Lumix 14-140 II, that got dipped in the ocean. Comparing this with Lumix 14-140 II lens (when used on E-M5), I find the IQ of 14-150 lens better. The 20g difference in weight is not noticeable. It is slightly longer, but looks a bit less bulky with E-M5. I see no fringing whatsoever, unlike with Lumix lens. The sharpness is very good, surprisingly good at 150mm. Autofocus is very fast and seems more accurate and reliable. Comparing this lens with 40-150/2.8 + MC14 teleconverter - I find this lens IQ at 150mm slightly better (sharper) than 40-150/2.8 + MC14 @ 210mm. It is a great general purpose/beginner/travel lens. Considering current sale price it is a bargain. My wife gets noticeably better results with this, than with 14-140 II.
