Olympus E-M5 Mark II Overview

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II Mirrorless Camera combines a 16MP Live MOS sensor with a TruePic VII Image Processor for increased performance speed and reduced noise throughout the ISO range as compared to TruePic VI. The Mark II also improves upon its predecessor by utilizing a 5-axis VCM Image Stabilization that provides up to 5 stops of compensation. Full HD 1080p video recording is now available on the Mark II with a higher bitrate of up to 77 Mb/s and various codecs. Built into the E-M5 Mark II is a unique feature that utilizes sensor shift to produce a 40MP image by combining 8 images in-camera.

The camera's fully articulated 3" touchscreen LCD monitor makes taking self portraits easy, and the built-in WiFi lets you quickly share your images. When not using the LDC monitor for live view, the 2,360k-dot EVF provides a virtually lag-free view with a 1.48x magnification.

Superior Image Quality
The Olympus E-M5 Mark II uses a 16-megapixel High-Speed Live MOS Sensor offering improved performance and exceptional clarity and speed in all aspects of image capture. Olympus' TruePic VII image-processing engine improves image quality in low-light environments. The camera's sensor allows for a maximum ISO of 25,600, and the dynamic range has been expanded for more faithful color reproduction.
5-Axis Image Stabilization
The ultra-sensitive 5-axis VCM (voice coil motor) employs updated gyro sensors for a full 5 exposure steps of compensation. The E-M5 Mark II delivers sharp, clear still images in low light or steady HD video when capturing movies.
Intuitively Designed Electronic Viewfinder
The camera's electronic viewfinder has an eye sensor to seamlessly switch the display between the tilting 3.0" touch screen OLED and the electronic viewfinder for ease-of-use. Camera setting information, such as shutter speed, is displayed at the bottom of the viewfinder so photographers can concentrate on framing shots and take full advantage of an EVF's ability to display the effects of various exposure adjustments and Art Filter effects - all without having to take the eye away from the viewfinder
Additional Features
Interactive, high-resolution and high-magnification electronic viewfinder. 3" touch-screen LCD monitor, with variable angle positioning. Built-in Wi-Fi for instant connectivity. Live Composite, which automatically blends multiple exposures for incredibly detailed night scenes, and compatibility with Olympus Capture camera control software, which creates a seamless interface between camera and computer for studio work.
Weather Resistance
The magnesium alloy body is sealed to help protect against dust and liquid. The camera can operate in cold-weather conditions down to 14°F.

Im new to photography but have a friend with this camera . We both are interested in astrophotography and a lot of the features this camera has (wi-fi remote) makes it a lot easier. Been cloudy , so havnt got to use it much but I am really impressed with the photos it takes.

As promised, tracking to Canada, prepaid taxes... Excellent!

In 3 years of ownership, we have had to have it repaired 4 times. 1. The rear dial came loose 2. Stopped working LCD had to be replaced 3. Autofocus and other functions ceased, circuit board and processor were replaced, 4. Lever on the Fn1 is came loose. When working, it is a very nice camera to handle, but the tendency for things to come loose is way over par. Frustrating. Suggest get an extended warranty (credit cards double your owner's warranty, Square Trade extends up to 3 years)

I love this camera! My other camera was a canon rebel 400D so this is quite the upgrade! The controls are easy to learn and versatile and the quality is good enough for my hobby.

This camera has a UHS-I slot but UHS-II will still work with it; the cards are backwards-compatible. :)

question

I have a Promaster 5550DX flash with an OM Digital module that I used with my Olympus C-700. It uses a flash-sync cable, not a hot shoe. Does the OM-D E-M5 have a flash-sync cable terminal that would be compatible with this flash?
Asked by: Joe R.
This camera does not have a sync port.

question

if you have old lens from an old Olympus film camera will those lens fit on this new Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II?
Asked by: Brendak S.
Only with an OM to M4/3 adapter. Even then, the quality is going to somewhat lack in comparison the newer lenses. The old Oly Pen lenses are pretty heroic though.

Up to what size can images from this camera be printed?
Asked by: Sarah
It depends greatly on the print quality and resolution you decide to use. There is no definite answer but it's realistic to expect to make around 16 x 20" prints with fine quality, but you can make prints much larger depending on the post-production processes you use and the level of detail you require.

The OM-D E-M5 comes with a 1-year limited warranty from Olympus, which would cover manufacturers defects.
