Netgear XS708E-100NES overview

  • 1Description

With eight 10-Gigabit ports, the 8-Port 10-Gigabit ProSAFE Plus Switch from NETGEAR is capable of handling a variety of business oriented networking tasks. With plug-and-play connectivity network administrators can have the network up and running quickly to greatly reduce down time when expanding network capacity. Enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) functionality allows for easy management of network traffic to ensure bandwidth hungry tasks have sufficient network resources. NETGEAR has also worked in both loop prevention and broadcast storm controls into this switch to ensure network traffic continues to flow smoothly and to help prevent packet loss or disruption. Along with the eight 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports, this switch includes a single 10G SFP+ Fiber port designed for high speed connectivity between local area network devices.

    Netgear XS708E-100NES reviews

8-Port 10-Gigabit ProSAFE Plus Switch is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great ! I haven't fully tested the product yet (need to run some benchmarks) but so far it's been working great. I'm using both 1Gbps and 10Gbps connections (regular CAT6 cables with 1Gbps network adapters and SFP+ with a Tripplite twinax cable and a Chelsio T3 10Gbit network adapter). The software isn't great though, you need Adobe Air and the interface is mediocre. The options are limited but it works as advertised. This is pretty much the cheapest 10Gbit switch so if that's what you are looking for and you don't need fancy advanced settings, then it's a good choice. The fans are somewhat loud, but it's pretty much what you would expect for that type of switch with those small fans, if it's meant to be in a server room then it's fine, if you want it in an office then it'll probably be too annoying.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's cheap but you'll be missing a lot I bought this switch from a different source because it was so inexpensive but there's 3 things that I am really missing that I wish I would have held out for: 1) Any sort of management besides LAGG and vLAN tags. I mean, seriously, nothing. 2) Since there's no features, no routing can happen in the device so your routing is limited to your router speed. If that's a software package like pfSense, IPFire, etc. you may have a 10Gbe interface but you are unlikely to do 10Gbe routing (I get about 2-3Gbps in iperf3). Now you need a *very* high clock-speed processor to try and mitigate this problem (e.g. i7-6700K, i3-8350K, etc.) 3) No spanning tree support so use of dual-nic connections is questionable
