    Zoom H4NSP reviews

    H4nSP 4-Channel Handy Recorder (2015) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 165.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I couldn't make videos without it I got this to do voice-overs, but after adding a lav, I can conduct quality interviews with an ultra-portable consumer camcorder kit. I just want to add what an awesome company Zoom is! I've had my 'Handy Zoom' H4n for a little over two years. In that time it, has taken a few tumbles, which loosened the battery cover. Well, weekend before last, in the rush of breaking down one interview to go to another, I managed to loose said battery cover. After looking on the company's website for replacement parts (it wasn't listed), I emailed them. They responded the next business day and I recieved a new cover today! I couldn't be more pleased with Zoom's customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would recommend this to musicians I used the H4n for the first time at one of our outdoor gigs. It did really well once I learned how to set the auto record start and stop levels. I have already encoded the music from wav to mp3 and sent it to my band members. I need to learn more but the first experience was great. The batteries don't last too long so, I recommend buying the ac adapter like I did later on. The manual says there is a usb cord provided but it was not in the packaging, but that was okay since I already had one. I want to try the external mics next to get 4 mics at the same time and see if it makes a difference.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Bad. Some features are difficult to use though. This is a good recorder and it is very sensitive. Compared with the Tascam DR-05 I have, this recorder is better. It can record loud sound without distortion. However this unit is much more bulky and the interface complicated. Tascam's interface is much more simpler and intuitive. Some of the features such as karaoke are hard to set up, making it almost useless. Many of the editing features should not be attempted as they are hard to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound I had used an older model of this audio recorder during college which sounded good, but the quality of this recorder and convenient size have aided me numerous times in the past few weeks since purchasing it. The recorder is also easy to use. The only complaint I would have is its inability to handle large memory cards. My 64gb SD card would not format, but when I used a smaller card it was fine. This isn't a huge problem at all, but possibly one the manufacturer might want to address in future models. Overall, great high quality sound in a pinch, just buy a wind cover if you plan on doing anything outside with the unit's microphones itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great recorder, intuitive to learn The h4N has great quality and is particularly good for a light, portable podcasting setup for XLR headset mics. Also has an external stereo mic jack for up to 2 more external mics for a total of 4 track simultaneous recording. It was pretty easy to learn, though there are still features I haven't explored. Two small gripes: the LCD screen is dated like a 1980's Sharp calculator. And the built-in mics, while they sound good, pick up every tiny background sound and movement. There should be a noise reduction feature. Besides that, no hesitation recommending it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Recorder I use this recorder to as a backup to my computer when videoing live conferences. Saved my butt the first day when my computer crashed during recording. I capture line level sound right from the venue's mixer using a 1/4 cable which allows me to keep the recording levels of the H4N pretty low. That lowers the noise floor and provides a quality recording that I then sync with my video in post production. I am so grateful I bought this puppy. Good quality and easy to use. I bought the AC adapter so I can leave it on without worry about batteries running low.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing preamp for condenser mics. I have used this device for 6 months. I tested with condenser microphones like Behringer C3, B2 Pro, Studio Projects C1, and Rode NT1, and always the issue with this device is the self noise and poor gain for condenser microphones. I bought the H4 to record voice-overs and even that is a very popular device in the area of the preamp is very poor. This device should be discontinued and not offered any more. I am selling mine in order to look for another device that can substitute this. Actually I have bought an ART Voice Channel in order to get rid of this Zoom H4 in my home recordings, but I am looking a solution when I am travelling and need to make a voice over with good quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice but... I love the compact feel, look and design of this recorder. It would make a great second device...however, the H4n requires an attenuator cable to be able to monitor and line in to a dslr, that's $$right there. The H5 was on sale for $40 more than this one and has several better features.
