Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The B+W #960 metal telephoto lens hood is made of black-anodized aluminum with light-absorbing flat black ribs on the inside, and due to it's cylindrical shape this hood is especially suited for telephoto lenses.

58mm Screw-In Metal Telephoto Lens Hood #960 is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good hood for the Olympus 75mm lens! This is a screw-on lens hood for the Olympus 75mm micro four-thirds lens. It takes an extra 20 seconds to have it ready, but the advantages are that it can be used with a polarizer, as the whole hood rotates the outer ring of the polarizer, and secondly, the hood will not fall off. It also costs about 1/2 of what the Oly hood costs. I think the black hood looks pretty good with a black and silver body and silver lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from B&W ---------------Guaranteed Quality I use the Pentax 55-300mm zoom. I reverse mount the bayonet lens hood when I store it in the bag. Being cramped quarters the plastic bayonet gets damaged and the hood never snaps into place again. After two replacements I said no more. Now I store the B&W hood in a separate compartment and just screw it on when using this lens. I have used B&W filters exclusively for years and this hood just says quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from sturdy hood protects lens The day after I put this hood on my EF75-300, the lens fell out of my pouch and dropped about 2 feet onto concrete, landing hood first. The outer edge of the hood is almost imperceptibly out of round and the lens works perfectly. It does a great job of preventing glare. It's much more economical that Canon's dedicated lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great on Voigtlander 58mm 1.4 SL-2 The standard Voigtlander hood for the 58mm f/1.4 SL2 lens is short, and quite costly. I had this B+W hood on my 85mm lens, and on a lark I put it on my 58mm lens. Amazing! NO VIGNETTING, as seen throught the 100% coverage finder of my Nikon F2. A 64mm push on cap goes over the lens hood. B+W finish is beautiful, and the paint finish even closely matches that of the Voigtlander lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! I purchased this to use on an old but beautifully made Asahi-Pentax lens. I wanted a lens hood of similar quality the the original hood. This was perfect, great quality finish and precision construction. Well worth the money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from it was but it wasn't This lens hood is not as wide as I was expecting. It does fit the lens, but you are not able to have the hood and the lens cap on at the same time. I was hoping for one that was wider so you could have the lens cap on as well, though this hood does do what I need it to - even though it is cumbersome to keep taking on and off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this instead So many people complain that Olympus doesn't include lens hoods for some of their lenses. I bought this for the 75mm 1.8 m4/3 lens and it works great. Screws right into the filter threads. Costs a lot less too. No noticeable vignetting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed I wanted a lens shade taht would screw into my polarizing filter. This shade enables me to adjust the filter with the lens shade on. I can also screw the shade onto my lens.
