Sensei FH-100-U overview

  • 1Description

The Sensei Pro 100mm Aluminum Universal Filter Holder is designed to allow for the convenient use of 100mm-wide, 2mm-thick filters. While in use, vignetting is prevented on wide-angle, non-fisheye lenses with focal lengths as low as 10mm for APS-C sensor digital cameras, and 16mm for 35mm film and full-frame sensor digital cameras.

Use of this filter holder is easily accomplished by first screwing a separately available Sensei Pro Adapter Ring for 100mm Aluminum Universal Filter Holder onto a compatible lens. Those adapter rings are available for lenses with 52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, 67mm, 72mm, 77mm, or 82mm front filter threads. After being fitted onto an adapter ring, the filter holder's push-pull locking pin helps to provide a reliable, yet adjustable connection that allows the holder to be rotated 360°, permitting the use of graduated neutral density and other filters that are enhanced by varied positioning. A locking screw next to the Sensei Pro 100mm Aluminum Universal Filter Holder's locking pin ensures that the grip on an adapter ring remains secure.

The Sensei Pro 100mm Aluminum Universal Filter Holder is preinstalled with two pairs of filter slots, a configuration that accommodates two rectangular filters. Also included is a third filter slot which allows up to three rectangular filters to be used at the same time. Each Sensei Pro Adapter Ring for 100mm Aluminum Universal Filter Holder includes front filter threads, which allows a thin, 86mm round filter to be used along with this filter holder. If a thin, 86mm round filter is used on the attached adapter ring, the rectangular filter slot closest to the rear of the filter holder becomes unavailable.

    Sensei FH-100-U reviews

Pro 100mm Aluminum Universal Filter Holder is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Could Not Ask For A better Holder After several years of frustration, and expense from scratched filters, using the HiTech holder system, the Sensei holder is a dream to use and store in my filter pouch. I use the 86mm b&w xs-pro thin kasemann htc polarizer shared between the lens adapters which the 86mm adapter caps (very nice) fit on as well. Unfortunately only the 3rd slot works with ND filters when the polarizer is on HOWEVER there is still no vignette at 16mm (canon ff) stopped down. The holder is very easy to put on and it is secure, unlike the hitech holder. For very long exposures (2-10 minutes)in daylight I use 2 inch wide black tape to seal light leaks (same for hitech holder) and have not had a problem at all. The hitech polarizer holder can be added if preferred but it needs to be the one with the DUAL MOUNTING HOLES as the sensei uses the inner mounting holes and there is still the vignetting at 16mm. I am really pleased with the Sensei holder and adapters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I've tried them all, this is the best This is by far the best filter holder out there, not sure why it's so unknown. Both Lee and Hitech have huge glaring flaws which I won't go into here but I was shocked at how bad they both are. I'm giving this system 4 stars because it also has problems. For some reason, the first slot is tighter than the second or optional third. If you use Lee resin filters, it's a pain inserting and removing. For some reason, 2mm to Lee is completely different than 2mm to Formatt Hitech. If you use Formatt filters, they go in and out quite perfectly. Secondly, the polarizer takes two slots, which sucks if like me, you want to use an ND along with a GND. Compared to Lee (which literally falls off the camera at a whim, and causes severe vignetting) and Hitech (which constantly is in danger of scratching filters) this holder is, as the other reviewer said, a dream come true. It doesn't come off unless youu want it to and it doesn't cause vignetting at all. The best part is, I can remove it from my lens, and put it into my filter pouch, with filters all in place, in case I want to switch lenses or adjust my polarizer. With Lee in paticular, this was impossible, because they put a huge knob on it that stops it fitting into their own name brand pouches, amazing. Did I mention the Lee knob also causes the whole thing to fall off at a breath of wind? : P Get this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Sensei Pro Holder Is The Best Out There For what I do, long exposure landscapes, this is the best holder there is and I have used a few! I now use two of these holders and they both fit in my Lowepro Filter pouch 100, with or without filters installed, along with a full set of ND filters and a couple of GNDs. I remove the security screw as it is overkill. The holder is very secure with the main screw and easier to seal the light without the extra screw. I use Formatt Hitech filters and generally when I arrive at a location before sunrise I know that I will be using two different filters as the light increases. I prepare the first holder/filter and seal off the edges with one inch gaffers tape, if not already done so at home (i.e. 30 below in winter). While the first long exposure is underway I prepare the second holder/filter the same way to be ready for the increased light if needed. I have never had a light leak problem doing this, even for 10 minute plus exposures under bright sun on snow, although some cameras/lenses will also need a home made dark bag over the entire camera as light may leak in elsewhere :) Sometimes I use a 86mm polarizing filter which is easily switched between the Sensei Adapters on every one of my lenses. Even a thin one takes up two of the holders slots leaving only the third slot for ND filters. This is not an issue for me as I have a full set of ND filters and rarely use my ND grads, preferring to do this work post with another exposure. If I really do need an ND and GND, rather than multiple exposures, I will leave off the polarizing filter. A small price to pay and there is no perfect solution out there although the Laowa 12mm lens filter holder is getting close!! A holder needs to securely go on and off easily to allow for proper focus/metering, it does. A holder needs to easily be taped up to seal off the light, it allows this. A holder needs to be easily stored with filters in, it allows this. The holder is easily used in winter conditions.
