Pioneer BDR-XS06 overview

  • 1Description

The silver BDR-XD055 6x Slim Portable USB 3.0 BD/DVD/CD Burner from Pioneer is a Blu-ray disc burner that has a smooth slot-loading mechanism. The drive allows users to watch Blu-ray disc titles and author high-definition Blu-ray disc content. It supports the BDXL format that offers 128GB quad layer and 100GB triple layer Blu-ray media. It can read BD-ROM discs, read/write to single, dual, triple, and quad layer BD-R discs, and is backwards compatible to read and write to DVD and CD formats. The drive is USB powered so no AC adapter is necessary. Roxio Toast Lite is the included software.

Please note that an upgrade to the included software may be required to burn Blu-ray Discs.

Auto-Quiet Mode
The drive monitors how it is being used and will adjust its disc rotation speed automatically, high-speed for data transfer, and low speed for audio and movie playback.
Power Read
If the drive cannot read an area of a disc, it will attempt to quickly move forward to the next available data point instead of stopping, resulting in smooth Blu-ray and DVD movie playback.
A drive normally makes a calculated guess at the unreadable data on an audio CD. PureRead, when enabled, makes the drive re-read the obscured data to extract the original music as accurately as possible.
Buffer UnderRun Protection
Supports Buffer UnderRun Protection on Blu-ray disc, DVD, and CD media.
Easy Connection
Easily connects to Mac or PC through USB 3.0.

    Pioneer BDR-XS06 reviews

Slim Portable USB 3.0 BD/DVD/CD External Slot Burner (Silver) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from works as billed BUT... use as an external drive bay for DVD and BLUE was given as a gift and my comments are being related by the person who received it. the user (my son) gives it 3 1/2 stars to 4. the UP side is it works fine IN A LAP TOP but the downside is that if you are buying it for use with a MICROSOFT SURFACE PRO 3, it needs a POWERED HUB to connect it to the computer. A 4 outlet 3.0 hub was first used and not enough power. I was told a Y connector MIGHT also work but we went right to getting a powered 3.0 4 outlet hub and that worked out of the box. Just be aware of this aspect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from compact and works well I bought this to use with my MacBook Pro after having bad luck with the ASUS external Blu-ray. I've used it to write about a dozen DVDs and to read Blu-rays, with no glitches or failures. I haven't needed to write a Blu-ray disc so I can't speak to that. It was fully plug-and-play, no need for drivers or setup. It worked when plugged in directly to a USB 3.0 slot on my MacBook; also worked when plugged into a USB 3.0 slot on my HooToo powered USB 3.0 hub. No need for plugging into multiple slots. As other commenters have noted, it's not the quietest or fastest drive I've seen, but frankly neither the noise nor the speed are issues for me. I gave it 5 stars because of the great value and ease of use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slot loader could grab quicker and move the disc faster I got this because I wanted a slot loader. Though with this model, you have to put the disc in 1/2 of the way before it grabs it and pull it in. Also, when it pulls the disc in and pushes it out, it's really slow. I'm used to my laptop OEM slot disc loader, when it would grab with the disc barely 1/4 of the way in, and it was real fast. I haven't had the chance yet to test the Blu-Ray and DVD burning yet. I have noticed you need to download a firmware update to get the 6X speeds. Also there is a Pioneer program to download from their site that lets you adjust the settings inside the burner. I didn't know about this until I was on the Pioneer website looking for updates to download.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Apple iMac 5k El Capitan I purchased this to work with the iMac 5k running El Capitan and the drive works perfect. I tried two other blu Ray drives and the Mac software would only recognize a cd or DVD and only by the Mac software. This drive worked every time to allow 3rd party software to play and download. I used Mac Blu-Ray player from Macgo to play blu Rays, Make MKV for downloading the blu-rays, or DVD, and Handbrake for converting the MKV file to a Mac file to play on iTunes allowing download to devices easily.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Riplock'd for Blu-Ray's I bought this to replace an older ASUS 6x portable drive that is failing. My only issue with this drive so far is that it appears to be riplock'd which makes it very slow to archive Blu-Ray discs for my home media server. Max 2x speed when trying to rip Blu-Ray discs. I Disabled auto-quiet with utility but it didn't help. The slot load works well, just have to get used to not having an eject button on the drive. This drive is very quiet. Even in 'performance mode' it makes less noise than my old drive.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slow & Noisey I ordered a new iMac and wanted a new DVD Burner that could handle Blu-ray. I thought this would be a good option since it was small, front slot loading and Pioneer quality, or so I thought. I have had two Pioneer burners in the past and thought this would be of equal quality and reliability...WRONG. This thing is incredibly slow and you can hear every segment of the disc it is reading, and you have to push the disc in almost completely before it pulls it in the rest of the way. I am very unhappy and am considering returning it. It is not worth the money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Fast (Quiet) Workhorse This drive is Awesome! It doesn't need a power source! It just plugs into the usb & go! It's fast & quiet, there were times I had to check the screen on my iTunes to see if cd was still copying. It's small & unobtrusive! Don't think 2x it's a great buy especially with the parallels bundle!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Disc-Drive Fantastic product. Fast read/ write performance for a portable unit. Quiet in operation and one of the few drives in its class compatible with USB 3.0 via a single port. The included cable is quite short, but still functional. Drive and software work well on both Windows 8.1 and 10.
