Nikon S9900 Overview

  • 1Description

The black COOLPIX S9900 Digital Camera from Nikon features a 16MP 1/2.3" CMOS sensor for high-resolution imagery and full HD 1080p videos at 30 fps. The 30x optical zoom lens provides a 35mm equivalent focal range of 25-750mm for a wide-angle to telephoto zoom range. The lens can be further zoomed using the 60x Dynamic Fine Zoom that effectively doubles your reach. The lens also features Vibration Reduction to help reduce the appearance of camera shake when shooting at the longer zoom lengths or with longer shutter speeds. A 3" 921k-dot vari-angle LCD screen allows you to compose images from unique angles, as well as review your shots and navigate menus.

Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity pair with Nikon snapbridge, allowing you to easily send images from the S9900 to your compatible smart device, and from there share on your favorite social media sites. With the camera's GPS function enabled, it can record the location where each photo was taken and map your shooting path. A PSAM mode dial on top of the camera gives you control over the shutter speed and aperture.

30x NIKKOR VR Zoom Lens
The S9900 has a 30x NIKKOR ED VR zoom lens with an focal length range of 4.5-135mm, giving a 35mm equivalent of 25-750mm, which covers wide-angle to telephoto shots with a maximum aperture range of f/3.7-6.4. It features ED lens elements for improving sharpness, color, and image quality, as well as Vibration Reduction to reduce the appearance of camera shake.
3" LCD Screen
The S9900's 3" 921k-dot TFT-LCD monitor has an anti-reflective coating, 6-level brightness adjustment, and features approximately 98% horizontal and 98% vertical coverage in shooting mode, and 100% coverage in playback mode.

Share your journeys on Google Maps, Google+, and other social networking sites, or with Nikon View NX2 software. Built-in mapping and Electronic compass also help you navigate unfamiliar destinations, and Points of Interest (POI) show you nearby photo-ops like scenic lookouts and historic landmarks.

Nikon S9900 Reviews

COOLPIX S9900 Digital Camera (Black) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice camera Purchased for my kindergarten teacher wife. She needed a compact camera that was small enough for her purse yet rugged enough to stand up to bouncing around in the purse with whatever else is in there. She needed quick auto-focus and shutter release. Camera has both. She is not a power user so does not need a lot of features. Auto mode on this camera serves her well. Did not know about NFC (near field communication) when I purchased the camera. Happy coincidence that a few days after the camera arrived she bought a new cell phone with NFC. Will be able to take and post pictures easily and quickly to Facebook using either Wi-Fi or NFC. Great little camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great take along camera With its 30x optical zoom, and its size, this is a great camera to take along. My go-too camera has been my DSLR, but I needed a smaller, pocketable camera to use when traveling and still am able to get those great shots. This is it! Battery life is much better than my previous pocket camera and this camera fits easily in a sport coat pocket and I have put it in a shirt pocket, which surprised me, as it is a bit larger than the smallest cameras. I still have access to controls for manual camera settings, but without the bulk of my DSLR. I am very pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Compact Point & Shoot Camera I did not want to carry my DSLR on a trip so I was looking for a small camera with GPS, WiFi & a Flip Out Screen. The S9900 met all these requirements. I like the wide zoom range (25-750), the compact size and the all black body. Cons are the Wifi button too easy to hit accidentaly. Battery/SD Card door flips open on its own sometimes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Little Camera I got this camera for my wife to photograph birds at our backyard feeders. She needed a simple camera with a long zoom and this one fits the bill. Image quality is very good for such a small, simple camera., and the 30x zoom is amazing. The first time I shot video with it she was floored - she never suspected it did video. I wish it had a viewfinder, but comparable cameras with optical viewfinders are more costly. So far, there's no problem composing images with the rear screen when outdoors in the sunlight. The camera is versatile, easy to use, and produces excellent images. The quality is not the same as my DSLR, but it's close. Prints from the jpeg files look very nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome little camera I took my DSLR and my little camera over the weekend up by Tulare, CA. At hey areboth NIKONs as that is my favourite brand of camera. But the photos were so clear and beautiful and that was the easy shots. I took it off auto and on to SLR settings and wow, I was amazed. The photos were terrific! Easy to use, light to pack and fund to shoot. I have had other cameras with the same battery so that was also nice. The zoom is amazing! 30X wow, I got pictures I used my 70-300mm lens for . This would've my go to camera when I don't want the bulk of my DSLR.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sometimes, it's an even better camera than my iPhone What's the best camera? My buddy Dan claims it's the camera you have with you. By that definition, my iphone frequently used to be my best camera. Now my Nikon Coolpix S9900 digital point and shoot sometimes is my best. It fits in my shirt pocket. It offers the full-frame equivalent of a 24mm wide- to 700 mm long-telephoto (max 30x optical zoom.) It has a built in flash good to at least 10 feet. To make my S9900 useable at 30x, I can clip a monopod to my belt loop for easy carrying, and put it on the camera when shooting at telephoto. When I otherwise can't see the monitor due to glare from the sun, I shade the monitor with my baseball cap. Sometimes I also use my Sony A7M2, electronic-flash guns, and interchangeable Nikon lenses for serious photography. But the S9900 with 16-meg images is a serious camera, too.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very limited camera It is a little camera which is good for taking photos in the short. People that you depict should be quiet, if moving the photo comes out blurred. It is not easy to take photos a against light, people come out only in silhouette or the landscape that is at the bottom is not well appreciated. It is compact and light, the Wi-Fi works well. The GPS until now cannot find its performance. The Zoom is easy to increase but it is difficult that photos come out of good quality. Ultimately recommend it only if you want to use it for Interior in the short or outdoors also if you want to take photos in short. The best camera is the video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive! This is my 5th Nikon camera. This one has few features you like on top of everything else I had before. It has built in WiFi that allow you to connect directly to your iPhone, iPad, iMac or PC without the need to log on to a WiFi network. So you left the cable at home, no sweat, you can download your pictures on the fly, literally. You also have built-in GPS, great for recalling where were the pictures taken, when you don't file them properly. However, the most impressive is the 30x zoom. I can hardly compare it to my older p300 camera with only 4x zoom. Yet, all off these great features are packed in a pocket camera. 16M pixel resolution, relatively strong built-in flash, pre-build menu of shooting modes, HD video recording and Many other features are obvious. For a complete package, order a soft case, extra battery and obviously one or 2 memory cards. You will never regret this awesome Nikon addition.
